PhilWiki Community/Annual Plan 2023
This is the annual plan of the activities of PhilWiki Community for 2023.
The Philippine Wikimedia Community User Group (PH-WC) or PhilWiki Community, registered as Philippine Wikimedia Comunity Inc. in the Securities and Exchange Commision in the Republic of the Philippines is a non-stock non-profit corporation, which main objective is to initiate, support, promote, participate, create, organize, develop and engage in projects, programs and activities that promote free, responsibly open-content resources and reference materials, in English and in different Philippine languages, and of the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. Since 2021, it has adopted and implemented an annual plan which serves as its guide to remain on track.
This year, the Community's Annual Plan is consistent with the strategic direction of Movement Strategy, centering on the goals of knowledge equity and knowledge as a service. Our strategy is simplified into 5Ps or Promotion - Participation - Partnership - Pursuit of Purpose.
Our Community's goals for 2023 are:
- Promotion by raising the awareness of Wikimedia projects in the country as a platform that serves open knowledge
- Participation by increasing participation from all sectors of the society
- Partnership by creating opportunities through collaboration with public and private organizations and benefit from sharing free, essential knowledge
- Pursuit of Purpose thru practice and demonstration of our values and by pursuing our mission for the humanity
We have created programs and identified effective approaches to remain focus on our work for this year.
Programmes
editThe Philippine Wikimedia Community User Group has initiated cost-effective, creative, and innovative projects to spur interest and promote Wikipedia online and offline among individuals. In the past, its members have appeared in a number of local media programs and have been invited or attended fora and conferences to share about Wikimedia projects.

The objective of the Advocacy program is to engage in various activities for the promotion of free knowledge using different platforms.

Zyra Hila is the Chair of Advocacy Committee (May 13, 2022 - May 13, 2023), and Cris Fragata-Gomez as the Vice Chair (May 13, 2022 - May 13, 2023).
Advocacy Program is managed by a committee that creates and supports activities related to the promotion of free knowledge both online and offline.

PH-WC aims to engage a diverse participation to address the gender and knowledge gaps being a free, open, and vibrant organization of Filipino content editors. Since 2019, the community has organized the WikiGap Campaign in the Philippines to close the gender gap and other diversity gaps on Wikipedia. It has also conducted activities that aim to build content on Philippine minority language-based Wikimedia projects including the Rinconada Bikol Wikipedia, Bikol Wikipedia, and Bikol Wiktionary.

Emz Cernitchez is the Chair of Diversity Committee (May 13, 2022 - May 13, 2023), and Joseph V. Ciudadano as the Vice-Chair (May 13, 2022 - May 13, 2023).
Diversity Program is managed by a committee that deals with the engagement of diverse participation to close gender and knowledge gaps.

The Education Program deals with the promotion of free, responsibly open-content resources and reference materials within and thru academic institutions. It supports active learning and the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program of the Education Team of Wikimedia Foundation. In the past, PH-WC held WikiTutorial which engaged teachers and students as participants in editing tutorials and as trainers and facilitators in related activities.

The role of the Education Committee is to envolve educators in fora and workshops for them to understand the value and usefulness of Wikipedia and how it can be utilized in school as a learning tool.

Outreach activities are being conducted to reach more people both online and offline thru collaboration with groups, organizations and institutions. The "Wiki Loves" photography contests have proven to have a considerable impact on our Wikimedia activities. Offline activities such as photography walks have engaged new contributors and volunteers.

Maffeth Opiana serves as the Chair of Outreach Committee (2019 - May 13, 2023), and Leah Sumalinog as the Vice Chair (May 13, 2022 - May 13, 2023).
The Outreach Committee is reponsible in creating projects and programs to engage new contributors in online and offline activities.

GLAM Program aims to tie up with past and new partner institutions. In the past we partnered with Raul S. Roco Naga Public Library and James O'Brien SJ Library. Through collaborations and mutual sharing of resources such as reference material, users of Wikimedia projects and the clientele of the library will benefit from the development of the Wikimedia projects.

Johnny Alegre is the Chair of GLAM Committee (May 13, 2022 - May 13, 2023).
GLAM Committee engages in establishing partnerships with galleries, libraries, archives, and museums for collaborations.

PH-WC has grown from strength to strength as evidenced by the numerous activities it has organized and participated in all over the Philippines to further its aim of promoting the nation’s many languages and cultures, as well as the growth of the various Philippine Wikipedias. To date, PhilWiki Community has forty-three (43) members.

The Officers of PhilWiki Community (March 2022-March 2023) are the following: Johnny Alegre (President), Francis Charles Brioso (Secretary) and Ezra Carullo (Treasurer). The Board Chair is Zyra Hila. Every 3rd Saturday of March, the organization elects a new set of Board wherein the new set of board members elect the new officers among themselves per bylaws.

- some additional ideas for the annual plan: collaborate with universities and colleges, especially language, literature, history, anthropology, linguistics, geography, arts, or political science departments, for the creation of more content about Philippine languages (in English or local Philippine languages), expand articles on Philippine ethnic groups and their languages and cultures that do not have much information, expand list of notable persons who speak each Philippine language, add links to relevant local Philippine languages on all articles about Philippine geographical places, and add local language translations of English article titles about key place-based articles for the Philippines.
