Enable Citoid on all wikis
Does not require engineering resources
- Problem: Citoid isn't found in many Wikis including Meitei Wikipedia (mni wiki), Assamese Wikipedia (as wiki), Fiji Hindi Wikipedia (hif wiki) and many others. Many wikis, like Simple English Wikipedia, have malfunctioning citation tools also.
- Who would benefit: Everyone who use citation tools
- Proposed solution: Please allow every wikis to access citation tool. And please fix the malfunction of the citation tools in the already supported wikis.
- More comments: In Simple English Wikipedia, though the citation tool is present, it is not working for every reference links. In this Wikipedia, citation tool converter works for book reference links like links of Google Books, archive org, etc. However, the citation tool doesn't work for news links, web links, and others. For frequent citation tool users like me, we have to convert the citations from bare url to well maintained non bare url, all by manual edits. Manual edits take a lot of efforts as well as a lot of time. However, such malfunctioning of the citation tool isn't found in Arabic Wikipedia, Spanish Wikipedia, etc. as I had observed. Their citation tools can convert any links of any kind.

Discussion
- @Haoreima: Which citation tool are you referring to? Do you mean Citoid that is built into VisualEditor, or w:Wikipedia:RefToolbar/2.0, or something else? Also note that there are existing tools like reFill that make it easier to convert bare URLs into references. There are issues with these tools, however, which is what the New reference-filling tool proposal is about. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 17:08, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal (WMF): According to looks, I mean this one:
- ok, a citoid. Haoreima (talk) 17:18, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying! I'm going to retitle your proposal and reword it to be more clear that we're talking about Citoid. By the way, phab:T294236 may effect the feasibility of this proposal, as it seems currently there is no maintainer of Citoid. Community Tech might still be able to help, though. We'll review this proposal more closely and let you know if we have any concerns. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 17:22, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal (WMF): I've had a lot of truble with the same citaiton tool @Haoreima is mentioning on Simple English Wikipedia. Got to the citation stage with students on a grade-level-wide annual Wikipedia project and discovered that both the auto citation and the webpage citation tool were broken (autocite comes back with inability to formulate citation and web page manual citation cannot offer the form at all). Led to a host of other problems with the project.
- To @Haoreima's other point, I am enthusiastic about making it easier for Wikipedians on less-populous-language Wikis to add to our global understanding of the world around us by building up content with notable topics that may be less-recognized or less-honored in en:Wiki or other more populated versions. Citation tools would absolutely help with that process.

- Citoid is already enabled on all wikis. It just needs to be configured by the users of the wiki, see mw:Citoid/Enabling Citoid on your wiki. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 18:14, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- However, configuration needs to be done by an interface-admin, and some don't willing to do this. Thingofme (talk) 12:41, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Smaller wikis can ask Global interface administrators for assistance via Steward requests/Miscellaneous or Tech Forum. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 16:17, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Anyone who can make edits in the MediaWiki namespace can configure Citoid, not just interface admins. Tgr (talk) 22:02, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

- I have created mni: ꯃꯦꯗꯤꯌꯥꯋꯤꯀꯤ:Visualeditor-cite-tool-definition.json as user Haoreima contact me through WhatsApp. A Mangang (talk) 04:07, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Per above I'm going to assume this issue is now resolved as Citoid merely needed to be configured on the wiki. Please ping me if I've misunderstood. Thanks, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 21:20, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
