Language preference and gadgets
editRe your question on #wikimedia-tech: the reason is usually phabricator:T50956. Local configuration in messages such as MediaWiki:Histlegend and others is ignored if you don't use the wiki's default language. Some messages can be fixed case by case, forcing them to be used in the wiki's (default/content) language, but that's impossible if the messages contain actual strings to be translated. For user scripts like HotCat I would expect that storing them as actual gadgets would avoid the problem, but there might be some nb configuration interfering. Nemo 19:26, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for your follow-up, Nemo, with some kinda answer including further info. It might be this one yes, but since I'm not that good with computerlanguage used at the Phabricator-link you added here, I'm not hundred percent sure... Best regards Migrant (talk) 19:47, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- If you want help testing this further, we can walk you through identifying the reason. It would probably involve setting your language back to nb and testing one script or gadget at a time, while checking the browser console for JavaScript errors. Nemo 19:50, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- Sounds tempting, but could we do that another day ? or won't that work since it would be other things implemented in the software ? Would it be okay to try and ping you back another day when I have got more time. It does as I have tried to say somewhere it does work for me now. So no sudden need for finding it, for me. - Sure. Try asking on #mediawiki-i18n during European office hours. Nemo 21:10, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
