Temporary SysopEdit

Hallo.

if (wgServer == "") {
    var metaBase = "";
} else {
    var metaBase = "";

--Kolossos 16:31, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
--WizardOfOz talk 11:21, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

OSM on nl.wikipedia.orgEdit

Hi Kolossos,

On I implemented by loading a script from Meta: User:Krinkle/OpenStreetMapFrame.js. It is not copied to like most people do, this way it stays up to date. Please let me know what you think should be updated there. –Krinkletalk 21:21, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

By the way, I noticed that URLs like these contains all hardcoded paths like this:
<script src="" type="text/javascript"></script>
I know that the recommended version of the script supports a &secure=1 parameter, but (aside from the fact that it doesn't work) I don't want to update all the scripts using that tool. You can simply fix this by using protocol-relative urls in the Toolserver output:
<script src="//"></script>
Or perhaps even omit the hostname all together and simply use a path-relative url (like osm already does for other scripts):
<script src="/~osm/libs/jquery/latest/jquery-min.js"></script>
This is supported in all major browsers going back to IE6, Chrome 1 and more. This may look strange, but it is a feature specifically for this very purpose. It is also used by MediaWiki and at Wikimedia to share cache between HTTP and HTTPS and to avoid having to maintain two interwiki databases (e.g. commons: is //$1. –Krinkletalk 21:52, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

We still have a problem with the subdomains we are using to delivering tiles:

If this is solved by a TS-admin, we can and will support https. I try to check the OSM-Gadget today at nl.wp, but I don't see the link to it. Do you know a reason?

Perhaps it's a idea to merge MediaWiki:OSM.js with your script. You check the ccase that osm don't exist on the moon (in the moment). User:Prolineserver works on a version that also works inside of lists: osm-2.0.js and it would be nice to have an re-sizeable iframe like WikiMiniAtlas. Also finding all coordinates in an article (clientside) and show them on the map is a nice feature of Wikiminiatlas, but seem to be a larger job.

BTW: Are you also active on en.wp? So it would be nice to see the OSM-Gadget at the Gadgets-list under preferences (as long it's not activated for all users). --Kolossos (talk) 16:57, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Superprotect letter updateEdit

Hi Kolossos,

Along with more hundreds of others, you recently signed Letter to Wikimedia Foundation: Superprotect and Media Viewer, which I wrote.

Today, we have 562 signatures here on Meta, and another 61 on, for a total of 623 signatures. Volunteers have fully translated it into 16 languages, and begun other translations. This far exceeds my most optimistic hopes about how many might sign the letter -- I would have been pleased to gain 200 siguatures -- but new signatures continue to come.

I believe this is a significant moment for Wikimedia and Wikipedia. Very rarely have I seen large numbers of people from multiple language and project communities speak with a unified voice. As I understand it, we are unified in a desire for the Wikimedia Foundation to respect -- in actions, in addition to words -- the will of the community who has built the Wikimedia projects for the benefit of all humanity. I strongly believe it is possible to innovate and improve our software tools, together with the Wikimedia Foundation. But substantial changes are necessary in order for us to work together smoothly and productively. I believe this letter identifies important actions that will strongly support those changes.

Have you been discussing these issues in your local community? If so, I think we would all appreciate an update (on the letter's talk page) about how those discussions have gone, and what people are saying. If not, please be bold and start a discussoin on your Village Pump, or in any other venue your project uses -- and then leave a summary of what kind of response you get on the letter's talk page.

Finally, what do you think is the right time, and the right way, to deliver this letter? We could set a date, or establish a threshold of signatures. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions.

Thank you for your engagement on this issue, and please stay in touch. -Pete F (talk) 18:54, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
