My username is stolen

Rename account edit

I want to know why another user is given my user name and mine is renamed to Rdt~enwiki? The new owner has created his account only 3 months ago, I have been here for 10 years with this account name. Rdt~enwiki (talk) 17:26, 14 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rename fiasco edit

Its very very annoying to find that the account that Ive used for years suddenly renamed. How do you know the other accounts under my original username are not mine too? What criteria do you use to determine that? Because of this change, I think unfortunately I'm going to have abandon providing anymore contributions to Wikipedia.

And no reply. 91.9.113.155 11:43, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

SUL and legitimate sockpuppetry edit

Hi, it's me again (I've left you another question today). I have another "old" doubt I am trying to figure out with some expert. I tried to ask here but I recieved the standard copy-and-paste-from-guideline answer, the one people say when they don't want to say something that is uncorrect, but it wasn't very helpful. I've also asked in some personal talk with no success. I am curious because if we are going to have just SULs, "good" sockpuppets and secondary nicknames should be geared under some sort of general coordination as well, but the situation seems quite confused.

So, in the timeline of SUL is there any plan to create a general coordination to declare/create legitimate sockpuppet in the future? or to spread the information abou evil sockpuppet among other wikis? Should this coordination be somehow necessary soon or later?--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:02, 20 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay in response, being up top I kept forgetting to get to this one. I don't currently have a plan, because this aspect of the great renaming, the social one, is up for communities to decide locally for the most part. There are a handful of big wikis that are actively represented here are meta, but there are far more that are not, so I'm not even sure where such a coordination should begin if it's to take place.
In other words, I don't know, I've been tasked with flipping the switch only :/ Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:36, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Impressive, I do have the feeling there is no long-term strategy concerning this aspect. If you have some advice, I will try to start a real discussion somewhere. I accept advice on the "timing" as well. I understand that it is a busy season (and I did my best to provide more soldiers to win this "battle") but I hope that in the future, when the situation has stabilized, this can be addressed. You can't have a "global" SUL and a "local" definition of legitime sockpuppetry, IMHO, because that SP account is de facto global when you create it, and the reason(s) you may need it are in theory quite similar for every platform.
Another issue: there are special users who have the power to create a lot of accounts in a small time for wikipedia trainings or classes. I am not, but I help newbies and I know this exists. I haven't checked but I do have the feeling that this is also something that hasn't been fully "standardized" within the SUL process. --Alexmar983 (talk) 22:03, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
To me, in my absolutely personal opinions here, the biggest issue that has to be reconciled is the use of role accounts, and I do see the bigger context of other uses, but role accounts are likely first in needing to be addressed in the SUL world. When de:User:Company is not allowed to be en:User Company in the global world, we've lost in a way the whole point of tying accounts together. User:Company should be so all around. The same applies to your other scenarios. So perhaps the place to start is with a meta discussion about role accounts. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 04:57, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Clarification: I'm simply putting forward here an example of where two local policies differ sharply and in the new, finalized SUL world there are ramifications to the global accounts trying to act at local levels. These policy conflicts might be worth discussing. I'm not taking sides on any particular issue. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:21, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I've never heard of this definition, "role accounts", but I got the idea. that's another point I haven't considered, but you're right. But where should we start the discussion? General forum? SUL finalization talk page linked form general forum? Where have people discussed so far the long-term "consequences" of the SUL?--Alexmar983 (talk) 20:46, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Good question, it's all be scattered everywhere for a decade. Talk page watchers: thoughts? This is organic community discussion at this point. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:06, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
in my own experience, the standard procedure with scattered issues should be: start a thread in the central "forum" or "village pump" but linked from every other related page (i.e. talks of Global rename policy, Global renamers, Single_User_Login_finalisation_announcement, Help:Unified login... ). Main self-declared goals: 1) initial brainstorming 2) define any other relevant related issues 3) decide together the place where this should be centrally addressed in the future. The discussion can be moved from the village pump to the new talk page once finished.--Alexmar983 (talk) 23:42, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
the best place it is the "request for comment" page, we can link to forum all arounds the top wiki. Another issue: if I remember some SUL includes local wikimedia chapter wiki (e.g. Brasil), whilst some national wikimedia websites are not integrated in the SUL system (e.g. Italy). Is there a plan to integrate them or this will never happen some day? Are new wikimedia websites by default integrated in the SUL system (if there is legal issue, of course) or not?--Alexmar983 (talk) 23:30, 13 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
and here is another issue. SUL for old and locally blocked account. Examples can be found here or here (concerning itwiki, not the other two). These users are active on other projects, after all and they should deserve the "functionality" of a SUL (this is also a perfect example of how a local "infinite" blocks do not play anymore the role they had years ago)--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:57, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

About the SUL names, I cannot find clear information about the MediaWiki:Titleblacklist. Local wikis Titleblacklists are not even cross-linked via data, it is not clear how this type of information is upgraded to the global level.--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:26, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Voilà, I made a draft here in my sandbox: User:Alexmar983/sandbox. This way you can close this discussion here. No doubt it is full of typos and it needs revision, and many issues are still to come, but I hope it is useful to start some real discussion. I probably will link it for further comments to other user before starting a real public discussion.--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:56, 13 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

For info here I have nade the first "public" step. Than i will start to link the discussion from other pages.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:17, 26 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Renamed accounts on Commons and broken image attribution edit

Hello, will you also fix all the broken "author" links from image information templates on Commons to the new ~commonswiki usernames? i think there are thousands of affected images uploaded by now renamed (and often inactive) accounts. what will happen to them, is there a solution already? example: [1]: several hundreds of images like File:Klatschmohn in Weizenfeld.JPG now attribute the photo to a non-existent user (see red link). Holger1959 (talk) 15:35, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

 • This is a much greater problem and not only about attribution. In a lot of situations, users have signed discussions with ~~~~, which creates a link to the user page and to the user talk page. These links are now broken and point to someone else's talk page, so it could be very confusing when reading old discussions. I think that links should be fixed on all pages. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:15, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
This seems like a serious problem. Is there any task filed on Phabricator? --Stryn (talk) 19:18, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't believe so. That'd be useful for someone to file. As for author links and signatures, it's been very clearly pointed out to me by communities that I have no authority to change signatures or other places of user-generated attribution. I've asked in several different places for someone to please create a tool on labs that could do this using OAuth, the actual mechanics of it is quite simple, but I've been repeatedly told that nobody cares by communities, it's disruptive, it should be the burden of the individual author. I disagree. I care, many other people care, so it'd be great if someone could set up such a tool. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 02:42, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Keegan, i can not find such a discussion for Commons. the situation with image attribution (especially with MediaViewer) is a bit different from signatures and other old text links (which is basically the same here as with normal username changes we had before). Can you please take care for this Commons issue? maybe you (or someone else from the WMF team) can post suggestions how to fix these problems at c:Commons:Village pump and/or c:Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. i am sure you will not get the answer "we don't care". Your maintenance script have broken the whole Userbox system of Spanish Wikipedia edit

In Spanish Wikipedia the most of Userboxes are stored under virtual user account Userbox, because cannot go to Template namespace. Why in the world a English Wikipedia blocked-by-vandalism user have the priority over a maintenance account of a whole wiki? This MUST be repaired soonly. --Zerabat (discusión) 20:26, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

This task is about accounts. Those user subpages have been renamed back and they work again as templates. Sorry for the inconvenience. A permanent and consistent solution would be to use a new localised name and fix page inclusions. --Vriullop (talk) 09:19, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rename/SUL of my account @ zh.wikipedia.org edit

Hi Keegan,

I recently got the notice that my account Panda@zhwiki @zh-yuewiki @zhnews @zhdict has been renamed due to the SUL process. Actually my account was created much earlier than Panda@enwiki who also has disappeared for a long time since 2008, but I am still contributing to zhwiki for 10 years. So I would like to ask a help to usurp the username of Panda@enwiki. Thank you very much!

Best,

Panda@zhwiki zh:User:Panda 04:06, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey Panda, unfortunately it's not possible to usurp the global account :/ Please choose another username and leave a request at Steward requests/Username changes. --Stryn (talk) 19:17, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Stryn, thank you for your reply. I am very disappointed that the SUL policy is actually discouraging a current active user by promoting a zombie user who is occupying the username. Anyway, I accepted it and thank you and Keegan both. --Panda~zhwiki (talk) 18:27, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rename account edit

I have noticed that you are rather active in renaming global accounts. My account is global but I tried to rename my account to a local unused account "Engelhart". The local bureaucrats seems to have given up their role and the process seemes to have stopped. See answer Usurped the old account, but not yet made a rename of your current account. . The account Engelhart seems to be somehow usurped. Can you please help or advise me of what to do to get renamed to Engelhart? Regards and thanks. --Engelhart.e (talk) 18:42, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Account Othertwice: all mine - user merge with autocreated edit

hi! My account name accross all platforms is and always was Othertwice. Not just here, even on Twitter. As for all wikipedia sites the Othertwice accounts are all mine. How can I merge them all to be Othertwice instead sitting with the usability nightmare Othertwice~commonswiki that creates an additional username while Othertwice as a main account in Wikimedia is mine, anyway? Users originally just had to take out another account with commons (this is why I have a second account here, not because I wanted to) - but for usability I named it the same way like my main account in wikipedia. How can I change this and merge with my original user name? Thanks. P.S.: Just in case someone else should have taken out my username elsewhere (not that I could find such an account) mine was certainly years before. So for fairness reasons this very unique account name I keep for user friendliness everywhere should not go to someone stealing that name. Thank you. I understand that people can be interested to steal that name as it is well known and has a very high ranking especially on Twitter. Your first announcement didn't reach me btw. - I got notified only when the cange was done. :-( In terms of frustrating the community this was definitely a good one. Othertwice (talk) 12:03, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Othertwice: the good news is that you own the global account and you can now use it to log into any other Wikimedia wiki without creating a new account. Your Commons account was renamed because it was not attached to your global account. In a few weeks or so the stewards will have a tool to merge your account back into your proper name upon request here on Meta. Until then you can continue to edit Commons under the Othertwice name. Unify request (Étincelle) edit

Hi,

I asked for my renaming from "Étincelle" to "Parcelle incandescente" on fr.wp and it went swimmingly. I just forgot to ask the same for my account "Étincelle" on fr.wikt, now renamed "Étincelle~frwiktionary". Could you please attach the account on wiktionary to my global account ? Do you need any confirmation from my local account ?

Regards, Parcelle incandescente (talk) 16:59, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Parcelle incandescente: I wonder why you changed your username, because now Étincelle account is free and everyone can take it if they want to. There was no need to rename your account, sure if you wanted so anyway... You can merge Étincelle~frwiktionary account with Parcelle incandescente. Just leave a request at Steward requests/Username changes. --Stryn (talk) 18:58, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Stryn: I was told I would have to be renamed : see there for Keegan's message. The name isn't free : it is in use, or rather was in use and is thus blocked (even though the user eventually choose another name). If it were in any way possible, I would have chosen to remain "Étincelle", I liked the name. Regards, Parcelle incandescente (talk) 19:12, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Parcelle incandescente: you're right, sorry, yesterday when I looked at it I didn't see that it existed, well maybe I mistyped it then... I can move your "Étincelle~frwiktionary" to "Parcelle incandescente". You just need to confirm that it's your account. You can log in using "Étincelle~frwiktionary" on frwiktionary and write a confirmation message at https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/Discussion_utilisateur:%C3%89tincelle~frwiktionary. de:Benutzer:Vorlage, now de:Benutzer:Vorlage~dewiki edit

Hello Keegan, could you please have a look at the on-going discussion at de:AAF#Babel-Vorlagen about this account which has been renamed today at de.wikipedia? „Vorlage“ meens „template“ in German. Is it possible that this user could be renamed back? There are lots of babel templates which have been moved which were in this user’s namespace (more than 3000). And there are hundreds of thousands pages which use these templates. It’s a special account for the babel templates, such as in the Wikiversity, but there just 6 babel templates exist. So it would be better to rename the Wikiversity account or put both accounts together to just one SUL account. But I suppose, that there were two different users who created these accounts. So how can the problem be solved? There are discussions to move all templates back with a bot (or a sysop does it), so it must be clear, if the account can be renamed back, before all templates are being moved back. Please tell us soon, what can be done about this. Noone seems to know which user created the Wikiversity account. And perhaps also noone knows the user who created the de account. See Special:CentralAuth/Vorlage and Special:CentralAuth/Vorlage~dewiki. If the templates are moved back into the not-anymore-existing user namespace of de:Benutzer:Vorlage, then they will be in a non-existing user namespace for all time, because I suppose, the inactive Wikiversity user won’t create a new de-account automatically. This seems not to be very well, does it? But if re-renaming can’t be done, there won’t be any other possibility. Greetings --Winternacht (talk) 19:08, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Winternacht: it seems like it'd be reasonable for the German community to ask for usurpation in this case. @DerHexer: what do you think? Is that feasible? Keegan (WMF) (talk) 02:35, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, in this special case I'd simply usurp the account and move all pages back. The 2007 account highly likely not return. But a request on dewikiversity is also possible. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 09:20, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Both accounts are from 2006, the de account is the older one of both (Febr. 2006, Wiktionary: Dec. 2006). Yesterday evening, a sysop (User:Umherirrender) already moved all (around) 3142 pages back to the old places, so the renamed user now hasn’t any user pages anymore, they are all back at de:Spezial:Präfixindex/Benutzer:Vorlage/, where they should stay forever and not be moved again wherever. Is it possible to merge those accounts (and without possible email addresses in the account, and which password of which of the users will be used, so which one of them can log in after that?) without moving the pages once more, so that they stay in place there? It is not clear, if with new renaming or account merging the pages are being moved once again to another place. Now, all pages are in a not-existing user namespace, not a good salution. If DerHexer can merge the accounts to only one, that would be good. What shall be done to achieve this? --Winternacht (talk) 12:43, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
By the way: This page tells that there now shall be 1623 pages in this user’s namespace which isn’t true, see Präfixindex (and no talk pages). Why is there wrong information on the info page? Seems to be another bug. --Winternacht (talk) 12:51, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I try this, don’t know, if it’s right this way: Steward requests/Username changes#Vorlage~dewiki@dewiki / Vorlage~global. --Winternacht (talk) 16:29, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

your user renaming on Commons is braking licenses and author attribution links edit

Hi I just run into files which were transcluding c:User:Alx 91/license and which no longer have license after renaming c:User:Alx 91 to c:User:Alx 91~commonswiki. Also all the author links to c:User:Alx 91 are now pointing to deleted pages. Are you planning some bot runs to fix those issues. I do not know how widespread this problem is but c:User:Alx 91/license was used on 513 files that now do not have a license. I personally never liked personalized licenses in the user namespace and each time I have a chance I try to replace them with something that looks the same but has the call to license template in the file page, but there are a lot odd pages on Commons. User:Jarekt: See also #Renamed accounts on Commons and broken image attribution above. This affects lots of accounts, not just this one. Lots of links in signatures in old discussions are broken on all projects (including Commons).
de:Spezial:Linkliste/Benutzer:Stefan2 shows lots of pages which point to my user page on dewiki, but the links are meant to point to the user page of a different user whose account was recently renamed as part of the SUL finalisation. It would be nice to have all of the links (and also a few links to the talk page) updated to prevent confusion. --Stefan2 (talk) 17:45, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
A few examples of recently renamed licenses:
--Jarekt (talk) 18:38, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Solved the first four using c:COM:VFC, but this takes too much time. I think that someone should create a bot which updates all links on all pages on Commons (file information pages, noticeboards and other pages). --Stefan2 (talk) 20:32, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
w:en:User:BesigedB and c:User:BesigedB also belong to the same user according to the links. --Jarekt (talk) 19:09, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Is there not a place on Commons where y'all can ask a bot owner to fix this? I do not think the solution is technically complex at all, but it's outside of my remit. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:25, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
We can fix the user template issues there. I was just assuming that that issue might be more widespread and there might be some plans to run one code to fix the same issues on all the wikis the same way. I am also weary of "fixing" issues what might need to be reverted. Like the accounts of w:en:User:BesigedB/c:User:BesigedB, en:User:Alx_91/c:User:Alx 91, en:User:JCarriker/c:User:JCarriker where commons account was renamed but enwiki account was not. I can point it out at mw:Steward requests/Username changes but in my experience it is pointless to revert bot edits without making sure the bot will not redo them soon after. --Jarekt (talk) 20:22, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Confused about User Name; can I (re)claim it? Cannot currently access it. edit

Hello,

I don't know if this is the place to post this, but when I try to create an account, I'm receive this message:

Account creation error Cannot create account: The requested username is already taken by a user on another wiki.

Thinking that I may have created the account elsewhere myself and forgotten, I request my password, but without success. I eventually get to this link in my search that says the user account is not registered and has been renamed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tshombe

I go to the renamed page and find this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tshombe~enwiki

And, by following your suggested link to the Central Authority, this is what I find: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Tshombe

Is this user name in use in actuality? Has it been renamed? And, if it has, how can I claim the username (It's my real first name)?

Hi there. You can file a request at SRUC. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:42, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi User:Keegan (WMF) : Thank you so much for the response. I've logged the request at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Username_changes#tshombe I hope I did it correctly! Let me know if I need to correct anything or make the request elsewhere. Very much appreciate your help.

An other Commons problem: Broken attribution for files transferred from Wikipedias and other WMF projects edit

there's an other problem on Commons after SUL finalization affecting many thousands images. i pinged Erik about it in March but got no reaction ([2] in German).

This problem is about renamed accounts on other wikis than Commons, and about files made by these accounts which were transferred to Commons in the past. So this problem is a bit different from the two Commons issues described above (the first is about the same kind of attribution links but about renamed Commons users, the second is about broken license templates of renamed Commons users).

description of the problem:

 • self-taken files which were transferred from eg. enwiki to Commons, have a different user or bot account in the upload log entry, because it is usually not the original uploader (=author) who transfers these files. For proper attribution the original author and his userpage (remember: not located on Commons for transferred files) is therefore linked in the information template and/or within the text in the "original upload log" section, and/or in license templates. For example see c:File:Sagwasser01.jpg, an image which i transferred today. Everything is ok there, the photographer Antiope05411 is named and linked at several places.
 • but SUL finalization renamed thousands accounts on other wikis, and in many cases these accounts uploaded files which were already transferred to Commons. Now author links on Commons in the form of Name or Name point to actually different users or to accounts without any edits/uploads on the linked wiki, so i again call it "broken attribution".
 • the problem is very complex because there are so many wikis, so many renamed accounts and so many transferred files (i think over a million from Wikipedias alone, but don't know how many transferred files by now renamed accounts). Easy tools to compare links/redirects etc (like Special:WhatLinksHere) don't work in this crosswiki situation.

Please notice that i only see the problem, but i am not able to offer help because my technical understanding is too low.

question:

 • what is the best procedure to fix this special issue? can or will you (or someone else from the WMF team) please take care for fixing? (maybe by initiating a coordination process like File metadata cleanup drive or by developing special tools, i don't know, but i think this large problem cannot be ignored, and the small active Commons community is likely overburdened without any WMF help).

Keegan, any idea, or any progress on this issue? Holger1959 (talk) 00:37, 18 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

single-user login finalisation failure edit

Hello,

I used to have one account for all my wikipedia and wikimedia activities. As a result of your single-user login finalisation, I now have 20 ore more different accounts. As far as I am concerned, the single-user login project is a mess and a failure. The only thing I can do now is close and delete all my accounts and start anew.

Renaming account (wikimarvin) edit

I also would like to know why my account was chosen for renaming opposed to the account with the duplicate name.

I'm assuming you're now User:Wikimarvin~itwiki. Your account name clashed with Wikimarvin on the German-language Wikipedia. That account has more edits than your account and it's significantly older as well, so it is the global account holder and your account had to be renamed so that the other account can use the name on all wikis. You can find the rationale here. My apologies that you've had to go through this process, it's been a long time coming and the time is now. You're welcome to pick out a name of your own choice, though, even a similar one to what you had. Just log in here on Meta using your Wikimarvin~itwiki username and your old password, then go to Special:GlobalRenameRequest to fill out a short form to be renamed. Cordialement FK

(EN) You have rename my account name efka to efka~frwiki. The other account EFKA (et.wiki.., year 2011), existing on another country as frwiki, is created later as mine (fr.wiki, year 2008) and therefore it is rather for him to change his name instead of mine ... I would therefore regain my normal account that matches my image, beyond Wikipedia (other platforms : teaching, technicals informations, forums, ...).

@Severus Snape~ruwiki: There is an account called Severus Snape on the Vietnamese Wikipedia that has more edits than your account. Unrelated but additionally it is older than yours as well. It is the global account holder and your account therefore had to be renamed. More information can be found here. My account being renamed edit

I received this communication from you which is confusing because the Alatari at Wikipedia and at Wikia are both me. Why would you need to rename my Wikimedia account?

You are saying that a foreign language version of Wikimedia also has a user name Alatari and their account is older than mine? Is age of account what is given preference or is number of account edits the deciding factor of precedence to preferred name? Alatari (talk) 08:03, 28 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Alatari: Your account on Commons just needed attached to your main account, you were conflicting with yourself. This was resolved on 9 April when you logged in to Commons by password. Nothing of your has been, or will be, renamed. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:05, 28 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rename edit

“Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Writegeist. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Writegeist~commonswiki that only you will have" etc. 3

The Writegeist account created in 2008 (IIRC) at en.wiki is the same person as the Writegeist account here and at Commons. Is there any other Writegeist at any other WMF-controlled wiki? If not, how do I prevent the enforced name change? Writegeist (talk) 15:43, 28 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Writegeist: Your accounts were not all attached together, which is why you received the notice. Since then you logged in and your accounts were attached by password, so none of them have been, or will be, renamed. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:09, 28 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Help! edit

Hi, Merger was confirmed, afterwards no login would be tolerated to both my old and the new account (Gela1 and Gela~svwiki). Now that I had resetted the password for BOTH usenames along the same mail-adresse but separatedly, log on works with Gela1 AND Gela~svwiki. Pretty confusing! Shouldn't I have ONE account now?!?!

Additionally, in 2009 I had the account Gela as well which I would like to keep. Now I am told that this account does not exist on this wiki. "on this wiki" --- I thought the idea was to unite all wikis?!?!? How then can "on this wiki" occur??

Thank you very much for a little enlightenment in advance. Angela

Hi there. Stewards can merge your Gela1 and Gela~svwiki accounts. The name "Gela" now belongs to a user on the Polish Wikipedia. It does not exist on this wiki because that user has not logged in either here nor on the Polish Wikipedia and then clicked over here to Meta. Doing so will create this account for them, no one else can create the Gela account anymore. Your account was renamed from "Gela" to "Gela~svwiki" to allow the other account to own the name. The other account owns the name because it has more edits than your account. Account age is not factored in to the decision making since it has more edits, but it is older as well so it would have gotten the account name if it had no edits as well. Thus, your accounts had to be renamed.
To get Gela~svwiki merged into Gela1, simply log in here as Gela1 with the password for that name and head over to SRUC. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:07, 29 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rename edit

Thank you for your message to me on this topic. I am certain all of the Usernames « Charvex » across all Wiki projects are my own over the last 9 years. It is unfortunate that you did not offer a facility or tool to let users combine them rather than creating new unique names for each of them. (If such a tool exists to combine them, it should have been included in your message since it is not obvious to me where to find such a thing.) -- To be honest, I am not concerned at all what the Wiki projects call me, how I am identified, or whether I am identified -- if at all -- with my edits on various Wiki projects. My efforts on the various Wiki projects are for the common good and I do not care about credit for anything. Best regards. Bien amicalement, Charvex (talk) 00:15, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Keegan, we've already been in touch in April (archive 5). I've just read your messages from April 21st. You gave me 3 different accounts on Wikimedia: Nastasia~metawiki, Nastasia~incubatorwiki and Nastasia~crwiki. As I've already told you, I would like to unite all my accounts (Wikimedia, Wikipedia, all languages) under my name "Kiackw". You told me that "the stewards will have a tool that will let them merge separately-named accounts. Once available you can file a request". Who are these stewards and who can a file a request? Could you please send me a link? Thank you very much! Kiackw 10:32, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Kiackw: Stewards are volunteer community members who handle a variety of tasks. The page where you will be able to file a merge request will likely be SRUC here on Meta. The tools is not out yet, though. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 17:50, 14 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rename notice for a SUL account? edit

Hello there Keegan! I've not been very active lately, and I just noticed your message on my itwiki talk from March 18th. What I don't understand is... Rename edit

Hello, I have been out travelling, and notice that you have renamed my account to something very impersonal. I have used the name Merry on wikipedia for very, very long: is the other user account I clashed with older? Otherwise, I do find the renaming unfair. special:CentralAuth/Merry
@Merry~enwiki: it does appear you've been using the name for longer, but in the recent finalization, it was given based on raw edit count. I think there is an argument that you should retain the name since so many of the other users' edits were to their userspace in advance of a single page they created at hu.wiki. You could file at m:SRUC to see if you can usurp the other account given that it only appears to have been used very briefly and is no longer active. –xeno 16:00, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your account was just renamed as part of the SUL finalization. If you don't like your current username, you can ask for renaming using Special:GlobalRenameRequest. Your old username now belongs to another user who had the same username before the SUL finalization, so you can't get that name back. --Stryn (talk) 14:45, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
These two users had almost same amount of live edits, but Gullwing~enwiki was registered earlier and is more actively used so I think there is a case to be made for that user retaining the name. @Gullwing~enwiki: you could petition at ko:WP:USURP or m:SRUC to usurp the name or ask @분당선M and Sotiale: to look at this situation. –xeno 20:30, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Another stolen username edit

My longtime username was stolen from me in favor of someone who registered years after I did. That's outrageous. I know your policy claims that some separate wiki site unknown to most users, that was created years later, became the "global" one, but calling something global doesn't make it so. Your policy is broken and outrageous. Rename the person who registered years after I did, and restore my username, which was mine long before they signed up.

Your recent deletion of info regarding former WP administrator: Jossie edit

Hi Keegan,

I'm sure it your deletion of WP user Jossie's user account info was unintentional, but could you please restore it to that user name? As I recall, that user first rose to the level of WP administrator, then he was life banned. Could you please restore all of this to his old user-name? I think that such hitorically significant info shouldn't just be thrown away. I just brought up his name on an admin noticeboard, and I noticed the deleted material.

Also, there are a number of "other" questions and concerns that if at all possible, I would love to speak with you or anyone else over there about, which involve some potential security breaches in WP that I seem to have noticed. These involve some very odd apparent WMF servier behaviors which appear to me to possibly indicate a potential major security breach in the WMF software. I obvously do not run the WMF software, and I believe that in order to fully verify the breach(es) that I have seen in the software, would require a discussion between myself and one who does actually administer the software, and who could answer a number of "technical questions" that I would have for him or her. Please leave a messaage for me on my WP (not here) user account talk page (which is, as you know, under the same username as here).

My account, in English Wikipedia, and WikiCommons edit

My home address in 'English.Wikipedia', has been User_talk:Mmcannis, for many years now (since 2005). The recent global changes fixed most of my visits to Commons, and Wikiversity (and Wiktionary has me correct), but there is a duplicate in Wikicommons: "User_talk:Mmcannis~commonswiki". Could you move the "~commonswiki" back to the name: User_talk:Mmcannis, please?.....Thanks much...(from the HOT deserts (Sonoran), Arizona, USA).....Mmcannis (talk) 20:06, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merging accounts edit

I think the other account which collided with this is also mine. How can I merge them? I think the other account was the one I used in fa.wikipedia. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Siavoshkc~enwiki (talk) 23:30, 3 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
