Presenting Community Engagement Insights survey report: Tuesday, October 10, 1600 UTCEdit

Hi Jeblad/archive 2,
I am reaching out to you because you signed up to receive updates about the Global Wikimedia survey.[1]

We will be hosting a public event online to present the data, a few examples on how teams will be using it for annual planning, and what are next steps for this project. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 9:00 am PST (1600 UTC), and the presentation will be in English. You can watch the livestream here, and ask question via IRC on #wikimedia-office.

If you are unable attend, you can also find the report on meta, and watch the recording of the event at a later time.

We hope to have you join us online! -- María Cruz 23:28, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Tech ambassadors, "take two"Edit

Hello tech ambassador! This month has seen a good influx of new faces in this crew \o/ , so it is time to reactivate our conversations. Now that we have a pretty good coverage of so many different projects, here are some topics for your consideration.

  1. Are there further thoughts on the role itself? I hope the questions available on Meta can help spark them. Please weigh in at Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#Tech ambassadors, take 2.
  2. How about we try and organise future collective work in a Phabricator workboard? Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#A Phab workboard for us? has all the details to explore this proposal.
  3. Finally, you are also welcome to comment at, should you happen to have suggestions for the Community Liaisons team, currently wondering how to measure "Wiki projects requesting beta features and other early deployments".

We hope to be able to host a live discussion in early 2018; until then, we're looking forward to hearing from you on Meta! All the best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk), on behalf of the Community Liaisons

Request for help from Subbu (Parsing Team)Edit

Hi there, ambassador! Subbu and his team would like to encourage a few big wikis to make a planned technical change slightly ahead of time, like the German and the Italian Wikipedia plus 170 other wikis already did last month. He'd appreciate if his message could be translated, before he posts it on the local village pump. (Once he does so, it would of course also be nice if you could keep an eye on the thread, should a conversation happen locally that requires his intervention and/or make sure that the message reaches the right people, but it's not a big deal if you can't!) He'll likely post there on Monday 15, and he'll just use the English version if a translation isn't available. Thanks in advance for your attention and help, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 10:24, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Getting started on PhabricatorEdit

Greetings, ambassador!

As recently discussed within this group, we are ready to experiment with setting up a project and its related workboard on Phabricator, the platform used in the Wikimedia movement for project management, software bug reporting and feature requests. It will help us coordinate and cooperate better on projects that should require ambassadors' involvement.

For the time being, I'm just asking that you please add your Phabricator nickname next to your name in the ambassadors' table (you can create an account now if you don't have one already). I will send you further information soon! Thanks for your patience as we get to the operational stage of this effort :) Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:59, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

I am certainly sad to see you go from the ambassadors' list, and at the same time hold hope that one day you'll return. --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 15:49, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Template Wizard script available for testingEdit

Hello. I'm contacting you because you voted for the Infobox Wizard in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey.

The Infobox Wizard has gotten an upgrade - it's now a Template Wizard which works for infoboxes and all other templates. The feature is being developed as an extension (which will allow for localization) but there is a prototype user script which works well.

The Wishlist Team would love it if you could take a few minutes to try the Template Wizard prototype script out and give us feedback on whether it lives up to your expectations. This feedback will help build the script into an extension. To get started, add the following to your Special:MyPage/common.js -

mw.loader.load( '' );

The Template Wizard will show up as a puzzle-piece icon in the 2010 WikiEditor. You can click on the icon to insert a template. Your thoughts are needed on whether it makes sense for the wizard to be available for all users by default or if there should be a preference for it. If it's a preference, what should the default be? Please leave your feedback here. Thank you! -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 22:41, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Interaction Timeline V1.1Edit

Hello Jeblad, I’m following up with you because you previously showed an interest in the Interaction Timeline. The Anti-Harassment Tools team has completed V1.1 and the tool is ready for use. The Interaction Timeline shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits.

The purpose of the tool is to better understand the sequence of edits between two users in order to make a decision about the best way to resolve a user conduct dispute. Here are some test cases that show the results and also some known limitations of the tool. We would like to hear your experience using the tool in real cases. You can leave public feedback on talk page or contact us by email if the case needs discretion or you would prefer to comment privately. New community space for IdeaLab on ConnectEdit

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community HealthEdit

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:13, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

The Community Wishlist SurveyEdit

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Critical size of User talk:Jeblad/notesEdit

This page failed to gets its WD newsletter this week, it appears that it has reached a critical size, see Special:log/massmessage.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:13, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Had any luck in archiving? I will look to remove from the whitelist on the weekend, presuming that you can manage to resolve this matter by then, unless you tell me different.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:58, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
The page is archived. Most likely the problem was due to being blacklisted. — Jeblad 17:12, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

Great questions and commentsEdit

Just a note to say I've not forgotten the points you raised on the WikiJournal Proposal talk page! I'll try to engage more tomorrow (was prioritising questions on the main page's discussion today). T.Shafee(Evo﹠Evo)talk 14:08, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

It could be I'll move some articles about neural networks to Wikijournal, but they will probably be rather difficult to peer review. They go against common consensus… :D — Jeblad 14:33, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Email out of serviceEdit

I have a ping that you emailed me. The email that I use for WM work was taken out of service by an LTA who spoofed the account to create a TOS violation. If you can share your message on-wiki, feel free. Otherwise, please name a time I can meet you on IRC. Thanks for your understanding. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:41, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

I find it rather strange to claim an email out of order, given StevenJ81 position, so I assume he read the email and refused to take action. So, no, I don't want to write any followup, as I expect that to be pretty futile. — Jeblad 07:19, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
Believe it or not as you will, but I cannot currently sign into that email account. I have not been able to read the email you sent. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:26, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

will ya descend thru the wiki-chimney this Christmas ...?Edit

One might say that an odd campaign, involving some linguists (no one explicitly named), has reached a "Scandinavian wikipedia".
This [1] linked photo, is posted (as of December 2019) in the infobox of a linguist.

(If it walks, quacks and talks like part of a campaign, then ... campaign.)

If you would like to give wikipedia, one (more) gift, then please consider removing the photo, on your own.

(There is no indication that the lizzard-like faceless figure, is
the linguist in question.)

(I might not yet entertain the idea that someone has put the photo there, to "invite" me to trespass, of sorts.)

The photo is not worthy of Jimbo Wales 's wikipedia, so to speak, in the setting of being placed in the infobox.

Oops - seems like I have not logged in.
If there is a case-relevant reason to thank you (around year 2020 or 2021=, then I will log in and thank you, promptly.

Keep up your good work, in promoting good behavior on wikipedia. Good Yule and regards! 05:37, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

I have no idea what this is, and is tempted to remove it. — Jeblad 07:27, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
