How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Request for removing a block

Hi DannyS712, could you please remove my block for Requests for comment/Should the Foundation call itself Wikipedia? This conflict is a long time ago and the block surely is not needed anymore. Du kannst Dich auch per Mail um einen Zugang bewerben, hat bei mir auch geklappt. Ich bin bie Phab und MediaWiki gesperrt, weil ich den Propagandisten von unerwünschten Dingen zu sehr auf die Nerven gegangen bin, und auch einen Lügner deutlich als solchen bezeichnet hatte. Den Zugang habe ich trotzdem erhalten.

Autorollbackglobal script for past edits

hello @DannyS712, I am using autorollbackglobal for a while and I thought we should have same script for past edits of the blatant not so good edits and page creations. So that we can tag all the articles creations and revert the edits globally. When one has identified the edits as harmful. Current script only works for live and future edits/page creations. But I was hoping that if there was something which can be used to mark past page creations for deletion and revert to edits globally? Question regarding a script

Hello, I have a question: I tried to add a modified version of wikt:MediaWiki:Gadget-PatrollingEnhancements.js to my commons.js file here on Meta, but it seems that it isn't working here despite working well on Wiktionary. title blacklist override

@Billinghurst here, yes, but I needed to create a bot account on wikitech, which uses the global blacklist but has separate accounts. I tried to see if someone could grant me adminship for a few minutes to be able to override the blacklist, but that didn't work out, so I just disabled the rules while creating the account on wikitech. My Wikidata account and other trainees were blocked

Hello @DannyS712 my account and some other participant in the WikiGlam Awareness for Librarians in Lagos State were blocked by @Jasper Deng he said we have multiple accounts which wasn't so. We are running a training for Wikidata this is the meta page of the training WikiGlam Awareness for Librarians in Lagos State#Participants. All participants are new to Wikipedia and Wikidata and they are enthusiastic about contributing. I am one of the facilitators and i was blocked as well, so also Bussybee1812. Reasons: multiple accounts. I don't have multiple accounts, we are only training new participants. This is the block ID(This block (ID #37121) has been set to expire: infinite. I don't have a multiple account and we will never intentionally want to vandalise Wikidata. It is our home where we keep our valuable records. We can only protect it. I cant even access Wikidata to make an appeal. We were doing a training using Faith Oyedepo as an example on how to create statements and items on Wikidata. When i opened the articles and i started working on the article i expected the participants will watch what i was doing instead they were also in puting data at the same time with me. When i realised that is what they were doing it was a little late. i had to explain to them you don't work on the same article. I guess thorough investigations should be made. This is over a week now and the training is still ongoing. The enthusiastic participants are getting frustrated and worried. They seem not to understand why they are blocked. Please kindly help. I see that on line 13 of your global.js you have mw.loader.load('//meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:DannyS712/GlobalUserDashboard.js'); - this should be removed. @Sakura emad yes, that is where errors show up. Hmm, its odd that its not working but not listed as an error either. Can I suggest deleting (or commenting out) everything from your global.js except for the GlobalUserDashboard, and see if it works then? Thanks for your reply. On my developer console (I'm guessing it's the inspection you can get with F12), there are no warnings shown. Need your input on a policy impacting gadgets and UserJS

There is an ongoing discussion on a proposed policy governing the use of external resources in gadgets and UserJS. The proposed Third-party resources policy aims at making the UserJS and Gadgets landscape a bit safer by encouraging best practices around external resources. After an initial non-public conversation with a small number of interface admins and staff, we've launched a much larger, public consultation to get a wider pool of feedback for improving the policy proposal. Based on the ideas received so far, the proposed policy now includes some of the risks related to user scripts and gadgets loading third-party resources, best practices for gadgets and UserJS developers, and exemptions requirements such as code transparency and inspectability.

As an interface administrator, your feedback and suggestions are warmly welcome until July 17, 2023 on the policy talk page.

Hello DannyS712. I'd like to inquire if it'd be possible to add Meta:Requests for deletion and Talk:Interwiki map to the list of pages where {{section resolved}} can be added with one click. The first page is having much activity lately, while the second would be just a nice to have feature. I also wanted to inquire if it would it be possible for individual users through their individual $skin.js pages to have a custom list of pages where {{section resolved}} could be quickly added, without having to modify the script's source code. This account is already blocked in Russian and Ukrainian Wikipedias, and I think it is best to be globally locked, but unfortunately, I cannot request global lock at Steward requests/Global because that page is protected and I never ever had any Wikimedia account. Edit conflict

Excuse the edit conflict on the translation page. I thought it was a false translation as the first edit by the IP was a nonsense translation, turned out that was not the case for the second one, but I happened to notice that and reverted myself just as you were going through the speedy deletions.
