We all know that carrot is a veg and root (specific root if you want western Europe)

• it is wrong as botanical "fruit"
• it is strange as culinary "fruit"

But EU document clearly indicates them as fruits.

That is interesting. But notice the built-in limitations: it is only for the EU, and it is only when dealing with fruit jams. Once it has been boiled and chopped for a jam, it is not very recognizable as a carrot, anyway. - Brya (talk) 04:44, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

I think you are right this is not about 0213020 Carrots (0200000 VEGETABLES FRESH OR FROZEN), but different carrots, not Q81

Outside EU we should consider China, Russian Federation, United States of America, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Japan, Indonesia, Colombia and others - considerable list, I agree D1gggg (talk) 09:01, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Sweet roots are culinary fruits indeed and not botanical fruits

Sadly we both stated too many imprecise claims back in User_talk:Brya#морковь_(Q81)_are_eaten_raw_фрукт_(Q3314483)

First, culinary traditions are different (veg/fruit) and this discussion is endless.

But "Cooks define fruits as the edible parts of a plant with a sweet flavor" And veg is "almost everything else" like dictionaries tell (can be root, not botanical fruit).

You said "A culinary fruit is a botanical fruit" but any sweet root can be "culinary fruit"

Can you see it now? Don't mix culinary complexity with botanical. We don't need to save space on properties or statements. D1gggg (talk) 08:00, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

We have different carrots. Some are sweet. (like not all apples are sweet)

Second problem is that how you grow them, try google "carrot not sweet" "морковь не сладкая"

You might grow non-sweet carrot from sweet cultivar - this complex.

I think this information is best placed on each cultivar "taste: sweet, bitter" to avoid this fruit-not-fruit questions.

Food production needs a lot of edits in any case.

Comment another view on "culinary fruit" is expressed by Markus hauge "eaten like apple" (without any preparation or tools) I was aware of both approaches. Maybe we have more. D1gggg (talk) 08:22, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

Lots of vegetables are/can be eaten raw (think salads). If there are particular cultivars that are treated like fruits (seems like a big IF) then that information could be entered in that particular item. - Brya (talk) 08:27, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

"treated like" is a good property or "possible treatments"

Maybe we should use old P366, like I did for some items: cider, jam, raw/table e.t.c.
