please explain speedy deletion
editHello @Stemoc You just deleted without any warning nor justification my user page. Can you please :
- explain to me why you violated WP:NOBAN specifying that users should refrain for modifying (even more globally deleting) other users pages
- explain what justified such an action instead of contacting me and explaining to me what issue you have with my user page as in WP:USERTALKBLOG
- revert your unilateral deletion, and if you feel that there are valid reasons for my user page to be deleted, please use the normal WP:MFD procedure so that anybody can understand and debate about it, because there was in my user page absolutely nothing that would fall under the criteria of speedy deletion as in WP:SPD. --Alexandre Hocquet (talk) 23:47, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- Your userpage was tagged as G9 by a more established user from another wikipedia and i did not disagree with the reason, You were using your userpage to blatantly promote yourself, we do allow that but for established users, you have just over 800 edits across wikimedia in 3 years which does not put you on that scale an because anything added to the userpage on this wiki is "global" it becomes a form of cross-wiki spamming. You are more than welcome to add some of those back but avoid linking externally, wikimedia is not here to promote other sites.--Stemoc 01:33, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for at last and at least explaining the reasons, but also explaining from where this comes from. This said, I strongly disagree with your statement that my userpage was "blatant promotion". Every external link displayed relates directly to Wikipedia as a topic, (expect maybe my academic professional page, but even this is debatable) AND is part of a process that directly relates to a Wikimedian project as it is explained here when the same deletion happened in the French Wikipedia. This project is intended to be presented at Wikimania (number 6015). It at least shows that there is no consensus on what you ara considering a "blatant promotion". Now I would happily submit this deletion to the community with a normal deletion procedure so there is a chance that anyone can give arguments, but the authoritarian, aggressive, speedy deletion procedure is simply unjustified in this case (there was no copyright violation or similar serious misuse) and does not allow to debate. I am also shocked that your policy depends on the number of edits. Your disparaging attitude is de facto creating a WP:PA lack of etiquette. Please consider restoring my user page and launching a NORMAL deletion procedure if you wish so this may be resolved by trying to reach a consensus. --Alexandre Hocquet (talk) 02:10, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @Stemoc, after a day of cooling down, I am still shocked with the procedure, but willing to reach a consensus, or better said, to find a way of designing a similar user page that would be suited to a general sense of acceptability. What would you think of the same without the external links ? An encouraging answer would be appreciated. --Alexandre Hocquet (talk) 02:24, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @Stemoc:. I am bumping this message to try to build an acceptable user page. Can you share your view on a similar page (similar to the one you deleted) but with external linking limited to a link to my professional page. What do you think ?--Alexandre Hocquet (talk) 02:38, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
- Ok, @Stemoc:, without further notice from you, I am beginning to remodel my user page as per your advice. I will create the same page without external linking, with the only exception being my professional page, to unambiguously identify myself. Please note that everything in the page regards a Wikimedia project and that I still do not agree with the accusation of blatant self promotion, and still believe that this speedy deletion was agressive and unnecessary (by the way I could not find a "G9" criterium in the speedy deletion criteria page). --Alexandre Hocquet (talk) 21:03, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018
editGreetings,
Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.
Kind regards
