CWS deadline

edit

Wouldn’t 1800 UTC be around the same time or even before when Tech News usually goes out? I don’t think putting it under Future Changes is appropriate. (It would have been appropriate last week.) Al12si (talk) 03:20, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

It's imperfect, but we'll be sending the edition a few hours early this week to help compensate (5-7hrs from now). (I included a note in the translators-l@ email, and adjusted the time in the template). Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 03:08, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
On 2nd thoughts, I've moved it to "Changes this week", as that also still covers the "voting start time". Thanks. :) Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 10:16, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

This is a terrible change. This speaks volumes of the disconnect between developers and actual users.

On narrow monitors (for example, 1080p monitors in portrait orientation, very common in editorial circles, possible in graphic design circles) the content area is now so narrow it looks like there’s something wrong with the layout. On en:Xhosa language, for example, the first screenful of the article (the part with tables on the right) has short measures — lines that are only around 25 characters per line. It feels like Wikipedia has become a newspaper.

I know CWS’s proposals phase has ended and this wouldn’t have been a “technical” “wish” in any case, but is there something anyone can do to make developers do proper usability tests? This is so basic; this doesn’t even involve esoteric software like screen readers or text browsers.

Sorry for the rant. Al12si (talk) 10:18, 8 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The best place for feedback about the design and features of the Vector-2022 skin is at mw:Talk:Reading/Web/Desktop Improvements. It might be worth checking if there's an existing thread there discussing the same concerns. Hope that helps. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Does it mean, as of now, only the gadgets and user scripts in preferences of wikis are considered. Or other userscripts available at wikipedia? -Gunyam (talk) 09:54, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Gunyam Good question, I've asked for clarification at phab:T328610. — xaosflux Talk 10:45, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Gunyam: thanks for the question, got follow up on this at T328610, this change is only about Gadgets, nothing to do with userscripts. — xaosflux Talk 23:25, 17 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
