Meaning of “added to Commons”

edit

Does anyone know what this means? Does it mean a report will be written, or does it mean a link to the YouTube video will be added?

Asking because “added to Commons” might sound odd in some languages if we don’t spell out exactly what is being “added” or how. — Al12si (talk) 23:38, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I understood it as fool video upload. IKhitron (talk) 00:10, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! That’s very helpful. Al12si (talk) 00:22, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
It does not mean I'm right. IKhitron (talk) 00:49, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yup, that was correct. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:34, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Talk pages project vs DiscussionTools

edit

@Matma Rex and Whatamidoing (WMF): The first bullet point talks about the “Talk pages project”, the fourth about “DiscussionTools”. Without prior knowledge, it’s not obvious that the two refer to the same project and same piece of software. I think the same terminology should be used at least within one Tech News issue. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 11:31, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I rephrased it, thanks. Matma Rex (talk) 18:50, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've marked this for translation, but I've not invalidated the existing translations. I did it that way both because I'm sending it today (soon), and because I wasn't sure how the addition of a new tvar ($4) would affect existing (non-updated) translations. If that was imperfect, my apologies and please let me know. Thanks as always for your help. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:33, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Quiddity (WMF): Thanks! Adding a new translation variable neither necessitates invalidating translations nor should invalidation be avoided due to it. (When pages are translated – as opposed to software messages on translatewiki.net –, not using translation variables is not an error.) However, due to the short deadline, I would’ve also avoided invalidating translations. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:40, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
