Automatic Translation of (new) Articles

EN:Hello! Many articles have many interwikilinks. Thats great! BUT: The content (length of text) in those articles are often very different! e. g. en:iPad. Click through other languages, please!

Wouldn´t it be great if there is the same content in every Wiki-Language (Style and content)? Maybe by Google translatet after clicking on "Save"/"Gesichtet"(German Wiki). I know, that there sometimes/often would be a strange translation. If the translation is bad we need to edit. If the new information is bad we need to edit. All like today. But in all the wikis.

Through that system more people would have access to more contents in their language and could give their knowledge.

Was wäre denn so schlecht daran? --Joschy 16:53, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Hm, sharing information is fine, but having the exactly same text is not practical I think. Every language has different readership. Some information is too obvious for lang A readership and thus redundant, but it would be necessary for the rest. I don't buy it at this moment. --Aphaia 18:07, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
That was just an example :) , What? Do you mean that lang A is better then B? Those people are not stupid i think and imho everybody should have access to knowledge in his own language!--Joschy 19:12, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

:::I didn't say what you want to attribute to you. Just for your remark. --Aphaia 11:00, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

News now old

The 'news' section of Babylon is now a bit stale. And it stretches back into the mists of time. Should it still be there at all? Should it be replaced with something else? Sj+ help translate 06:04, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Getting the word out about possible FlaggedRevs impact

Hi folks, as you may have heard, the dev team at Wikimedia Foundation is releasing the FlaggedRevs extension onto English Wikipedia on 2010-06-14. The subset of functionality will be called "Pending Changes". As part of the rollout on en.wikipedia.org on 2010-06-14, we'll need to update the implementation of FlaggedRevs plugin that is in use all production wikis. We don't anticipate any problems or any reduction in functionality, but as with any new software, there may be unanticipated bugs.

We'd like to get the word out to the list of wikis that have the plugin installed, which I've included here: http://flaggedrevs.labs.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia:FlaggedRevs_wikis

What's the most effective way to do that? I thought about just posting an English notice in a Village Pump-like area on each, but I had a tough time figuring out where that even was without speaking the language. -- RobLa 00:50, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Translations problem: admin required

Hi.

I'm not sure where to ask but I would like to request a small change in the messages MediaWiki:Centralnotice-VectorNewLook phase3-pitch/pt-br and MediaWiki:Centralnotice-VectorNewLook phase3-pitch/pt. Could you please remove the gender-marked article in the beginning of the message (the "A"): i.e., it would become {{SITENAME}} está a mudar de aparência.? While this works for Wikipedia, which is of feminine gender, it doesn't work for other Wikimedia projects, such as Wiktionary which is masculine in gender. Currently, the message looks "weird" in pt.wiktionary. So, it's preferrable not to have any article at all rather than the wrong one. Thanks, Malafaya 13:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

I had made this change a while ago, thanks. :-) --Az1568 (talk) 06:52, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Interwiki correction needed

Hey, it is standard practice on here to use the native name of the language in the interwiki links for the articles/pages... However, the Old English/Anglo-Saxon ("ang.") interwiki link is shown as "Anglo-Saxon", something certainly not done in Old English in Old English times. The native would be "Englisc/Ænglisc" (perhaps the latter is more desirable because it would not offer so much confusion with the Modern English word "English"?). What strings do I need to pull to get this thing fixed? Gott wisst 05:17, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Fundraiser 2010

Hello Wikimedians, I'm currently recruiting translators and volunteer for this year's fundraiser. The fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort, we recognize that banner messages that perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences.

I am looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project, helping to translate and localize messages into whatever languages you can and suggesting messages that would appeal to international readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. We've started the setup on meta for both banner submission, statistical analysis, and grouping volunteers together.
Use the talk pages on meta, talk to your local communities, talk to others, talk to us, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser.

"Take me back" and "New features" translations

Hello, where can I translate part of the Wikipedia interface - "Take me back" and "New features" (and the information inside it) for my Wikipedia? Could not find a proper place... --Geimeris 14:31, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

It's a part of the "PrefSwitch" extension and you can translate it here on translatewiki. Cbrown1023 talk 20:29, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Core messages for fundraiser 2010

The additional core messages for the fundraiser 2010 are waiting to be published in some 25 languages. Some have been ready for over a week. I know that only a few people can publish these messages, so please can these few people be prodded about this. From the point of view of the people reading 'Read Now' in English on the central banner, this is a priority. Lloffiwr 13:18, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
