[HowTo] create an account on an other wiki, when having a unified account (in french)
In this (french-speaking) discussion page about the unified login, I present (in french) my case of not being able to create an account on a supplementary wiki, while I still have a unified account. I end with a kind of infinite click loop and no solution. I have not been able to find clues or even indications, neither in the french nor the english help page. Thanks for help --Eric.LEWIN (talk) 22:48, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
- If this is still a problem, could you please elaborate on your steps and which exact errors you get? Not sure what "infinite click loop" means exactly in this case. Thanks! --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 09:16, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Logo text on Māori wikipedia (mi)
Just wondering if anyone can help to get the logo text changed on on the Māori Wikipedia? A request was made to change the text to Te Mātāpunenga Wātea here Wikipedia_logo_in_each_language#M under M back in 2010, but it was never actioned. That followed a vote here. The present text is not the best translation of 'the free Encyclopedia' I have also asked on Commons, but that has had no response after a few days Piwaiwaka (talk) 06:16, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Update: This has now been actioned from Commons. All sorted :) Piwaiwaka (talk) 08:37, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Reduce archive rate from 60 days to 30 days
Currently threads inactive for more than 60 days are being archived. I propose that we reduce such limit to 30 days. A thread inactive for more than one month is likely a resolved issue. 30 days is a reasonable time span and will help keep this page more up to date and clean. Thanks. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- I support this for this page, 30 days should be sufficient.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:09, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Done. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:34, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
Name
Hello, in other wikis Babel is language knowledges, would not it have to be this page on the Babel of languages?
Or Babel knowledge is User language? If I seem a little strange to write, forgive me because I speak Spanish. Since I do not visit nearly anything Meta, it is better to respond to: w:es:User talk:Iggoul2. 186.23.82.128 16:44, 4 June 2013 (UTC).
- (Ask OR Anwser) in Spanish. 186.23.82.128 16:47, 4 June 2013 (UTC).
- As far as I know, this page was named long before the "Babel" template was created. At the top of the page, there is an English message directing users to "the Babel templates"; perhaps that message should be added (/translated) to all the other languages represented in Meta:Babel/Header. (Replied en español [más o menos] at es:Usuario Discusión:Iggoul2#m:Meta:Babel.) - dcljr (talk) 01:14, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Multilingual instructions
In light of the previous exchange, I think it would be a good idea to do a complete overhaul of Meta:Babel/Header Template:Babel header. There you will find the following notices in English:
- For the cross-wiki translator's noticeboard, you can see Meta:Babylon
- For the Babel language-competence templates, see the Babel templates
- This is Meta's multilingual general and policy discussion page (post a comment)
- for discussions about multilingualism or translation, see the translators' noticeboard
- for discussions about all of Wikimedia, see Wikimedia Forum
- You can comment here in any language
- If your comment relates to a matter relevant to a particular page, please post it there and only place a link with a brief description here
Notices 1–6 are "hardcoded" in English only, while #7 is the English instance of a collection of "language select" messages (using {{ls}}). Unfortunately, it seems that most of the notices in the other languages are only translations of #7 and none of the others. I think we should include translations of all of the above notices (merging and simplifying some of them, as needed, in the process) in all of the provided languages. Unfortunately, I can't help with any language other than English, unless I just use Google Translate (which I suspect is where most of the current translations came from, anyway).
Here's my suggestion for the English message:
This is the general discussion forum for Meta (this wiki). Comments placed here (in any language) should generally relate to site policies or other matters that affect more than one page of the wiki (otherwise, just post your comment on the relevant talk page and, if necessary, provide a link and short description here). For discussions about multilingualism or translation, see Meta:Babylon. For information about how to indicate your language abilities on your user page ("Babel templates"), see User language. To discuss Wikimedia in general, please use the Wikimedia Forum. Before you post here, please also consider whether your question or comment would be better addressed at one of the major Wikimedia "content projects" instead of here. If you still want to post something here, you can use this link: Post a new comment.
I think that pretty much covers everything. Comments? Other suggestions? - dcljr (talk) 08:33, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- A good idea, though let's keep the "You can comment here in any language" sentence. For translation, currently only the part after English: is translatable, let's simply make it the whole header. --MF-W 21:31, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- I wouldn't recommend using the whole header as it now stands, since the wording is not really the best (that's what I was trying to do: keep all the same information, but improve the wording). I think either I've just misunderstood your comment or you've misunderstood mine. I meant that this English text I'm suggesting would be the English: text that would be translated into the other languages. As for "You can comment here in any language", you don't think the "(in any language)" parenthetical remark in the second sentence is sufficient for that? Hmm. OK, how 'bout this?

- Better? - dcljr (talk) 02:24, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
- FYI that Meta:Babel/Header has been moved to Template:Babel header per this discussion. --Varnent (talk)(COI) 23:06, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
- And Steinsplitter has implemented my suggestion of 16 June. (Thanks! I really didn't want to attempt marking up a translatable version of that myself.) - dcljr (talk) 03:21, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
