Proposal to raise $wgAutoblockExpiry
Hi. I don't like Meta-Wiki to be the guinea pig for most experiments, but in this case I think we can try. Nemo has proposed at phab:T43479 that autoblocks should last much more than the actual 24 hours to something else (not just for this project but in general). On translatewiki.net they raised this to 2 weeks, but I feel that might be tad excesive for Wikimedia Projects. Can we try raising this setting just for Meta for some months and see if it's useful, then ask if that can be deployed elsewhere? If yes, how much time do you think an autoblock should last? Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 10:51, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- I think this is a good idea, especially on smaller projects in the "spam war" where there are often multiple sleeper accounts. The larger projects may have an issue with people getting caught in the autoblocks though. I think 72 hours would be a good period - I have no evidence as to why, it's just what I feel! - Yes, I think we can try; 3 days as proposed by QuiteUnusual seems good for me.--Syum90 (talk) 13:00, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
Wikidata access is coming
Hi everyone,
Many Wikimedia projects already have access to Wikidata and make good use of it to improve their content. I wanted to let you know that your project will be among the next to receive access to Wikidata. As a first step we will enable access to the interwiki links. This is currently scheduled for October 20th. If that goes well we will then later also enable access to the actual data from Wikidata. I'll let you know in advance once we get to that point.
I am excited about welcoming you to Wikidata and hope we'll be able to support you well with structured data. If you have questions please come to d:Wikidata:Meta-Wiki.
Cheers --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 16:11, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- That's great Lydia. Thank you for "adopting" us as well :-) Please keep us informed. Best regards. —MarcoAurelio 16:20, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Great! --Stryn (talk) 16:25, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Nice! thanks.--Syum90 (talk) 16:27, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- At last! :) --Nemo 05:53, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
Proposal to Enable flow in the Research talk namespace
The Meta-Wiki community's general opinion is requested on this proposal. --Nemo 09:11, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- I heard development of flow was being suspended. Why would we do this? StevenJ81 (talk) 15:16, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- StevenJ81: Flow is in "maintenance mode", which means it's still supported and bugs will be fixed, but there won't be any big new features for the time being. So basically, it's in the same situation as talk pages, or the wikitext editor: they're all supported, and people use them every day, but there aren't big new features currently being developed.
- I'm not saying there aren't valid reasons not to use Flow, but there's a big difference between "just" maintaining software, and abandoning it. In the case of Flow, it's maintained, not abandoned. Guillaume (WMF) (talk) 15:39, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
Bot creation of MediaWiki:Recentchanges-legend-minor
Hi, could a bot create this page for all languages?, I've created some of them.--Syum90 (talk) 15:23, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- Don't they come from translatewiki? --Stryn (talk) 15:50, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Stryn: Yes, it's to adding a link to Help:Minor edit; I've made it for Finnish language, see the legend on the RC. Although I don't know if there's a bot on Meta which can edit the interface.--Syum90 (talk) 15:56, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, I see now those links ;P Hmmm... would marking it for translation help? I tried, but I'm not a master with the translation tool, so I reverted my test. But I think it should be possible, also Template:Recentchanges/text uses translate extension. --Stryn (talk) 16:19, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- But well... that would be the same actually... need to manually add the texts, so not an improvement... --Stryn (talk) 16:20, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
The best way is by a bot because the page content is the same for all languages. I would do it myself but..., there are many languages :-) I've made it for the main languages.--Syum90 (talk) 16:24, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
blocked IP
Hello My IP has been blocked by mistakes. Now what should i do for unblocking it? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Baharspringss (talk) 16:48 14 sep 2015 (UTC)
- @Baharspringss: If your IP is globally blocked and you can edit only on Meta you can request the unblock at SRG.--Syum90 (talk) 17:00, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
Problem with {{process header}}
Hi. The format of the template has changed. The links in the green top bar are no longer small and appear misalignated. Can somebody please fix it? Regards, —MarcoAurelio 20:47, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
- Fixed. Glaisher (talk) 11:32, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
Project portal merge rights
The WMF Discovery team has proposed moving the project portals from Meta to a Gerrit repository, mainly in order to facilitate some UX work, since major changes on our informal wiki pages can be a bit chaotic sometimes. Nothing has moved yet, but we're discussing who should have merge rights to the portals if and when the portals are cut over to the new repository. All Meta administrators have historically been able to push changes live to the portals, but the new repository would be restricted to a list of Gerrit users that has yet to be determined.
The thought is to grant merge rights to people who have been active in keeping the portals up-to-date. Off the top of my head, Krinkle, Mys 721tx, PiRSquared17, MZMcBride, and MF-Warburg have all filled in during my past wikivacations. Again, nothing has changed yet, but if you have ideas on who else should be on the list, feel free to chime in.
