Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Pilot Project WIR F/town
Hi Mompati Dikunwane, thank you for your patience with us as we review this request. We would like to support your community to work with the archive, but this seems like a project that can be done with a group of volunteers in one or two events rather than by one person for two months as a WIR. We suggest talking to your community about how they would like to work with the archives.
- If images need to be photographed to add to articles, the archive event could be focused on photographing or scanning materials. You should be able to work through 150 - 200 images with the help of other volunteers in a one day event.
- If the archive already has digitized materials, do a training event at the archive to teach employees how to upload images to Commons. Later, host an event at the archive with other volunteers and people who are interested in learning about Wikipedia. At this event you can teach people how to add images from the archives to articles.
- You might also consider making a contest or photo hunt type event. If the archive can provide a list of photos that they can release, participants can start by creating lists of articles that could be improved with archive images, and lists of articles that could be started using archive images. Once you have the lists, you could host one or two events at the archive to teach people how to upload images to Commons and add them to articles. Once the images are on Commons, the contest could focus on starting or improving articles using the materials.
We have sent you an email to set up a phone call to discuss the current projects that you are planning. We can discuss this project in more detail then, but it would be good to get your feedback or questions about the recommendations we have posted. Cheers, --KHarold (WMF) (talk) 22:29, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Kacie, I am really sorry for responding late to your questions/recommendations. I was trying to find out the volunteers that might be interested in helping out, and thank you so much for your ideas I really think it makes sense to upload images as in an event from like say 2 events with the help of volunteers and later 1 of which we might include improving articles using the uploaded material or introduction of Wikimedia projects or training to the archives employees so that they may continue contributing content to Wikimedia even in our absence, how does that sound?. It was nice talking to you and Alex over google plus call last week, and was awesome to hear from you hey. Best, Mompati
- Hi, Mompati Dikunwane. The project is very interesting. Scanned images are very usefull for wikipedia articles. So I support the idea. Just could you please clarify about "Monthly Stipend 700 USD * 2 months". Who will get it? --A1 (talk) 18:02, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi A1 , thank you so much for your question. We have discussed about this with Kacie (WMF) through a phone call, I requested to be WIR for two month, then she recommended that I should only do one or two events to upload images with the help of volunteers, in that way I am modifying this proposal. Best Mompati
- Thanks for clarification! Wish you success! --A1 (talk) 19:50, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
Budget questions
editHi Mompati, we are happy that you found our suggestions helpful, and that you have found other volunteers to help support the project. Could you please add more information to the budget section so that we understand how you plan to spend the funds. I have added a table to the budget section with questions about each of the budget line items. Please also update the impact section to set a goal for the number of images that will be added to articles and the number of new articles that are written. Thank you, --KHarold (WMF) (talk) 16:29, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi--Kacie , the information has been filled to the table, thank you so much for the help. :)
Regards Mompati Dikunwane
