Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Blossom Ozurumba/Wikipedia Igbo Women Edit-a-thon

Latest comment: 6 years ago by Blossom Ozurumba in topic Approval of project extension

Hi Blossom Ozurumba. Thank you for this grant request and efforts to organize the project! It's exciting to see a focus on adding articles about Igbo women on Wikipedia and a series of editathons is a great strategy. We have a few questions and look forward to your responses.

1. It's great to see that you have six experienced editors that are interested in participating. Can you link to their usernames and also ask them to endorse the grant?

We have 6 existing Igbo Language editors and myself. I will also lead as the event planner as I am skilled in that field. They are as follows:

Support and training will be provided by DonCamillo

2. Have you thought about reaching out to organizations in Abuja that might be good partners for the events? For example women's groups that could help recruit new participants with a special interest in representing more women online?

The following Organizations and Hubs will be partners in areas of participant recruitment:

3. Please be sure to create event pages for each of the editathons so you can track your work. Here is an example of a good event page that includes the event details, participants, a worklist of articles, and outcomes. Going through some of the existing Igbo Women articles there seems to be a consistent lack of references, so pulling together links to online references or hard copy references before the events would be very helpful.

4. This page has a number of editathon how-to guides that might be useful. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 04:09, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Blossom Ozurumba. Thank you for the additional information. It looks like you have a good group of relatively new editors who are excited to contribute to the Igbo Wikipedia. It will be very important to have at least one or two more experienced editors to help with training and support during your events. Please reach out to the user group to see if they are able to support the project. They can express their participation and support in the endorsement section of the proposal. Once we have confirmation we will be able to move forward with approval. Thanks, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 17:34, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

This is a great idea. There is urgent need to create content in Ibo language

There is urgent need to create content of women in Igbo edit

This is an innovative idea. There are lots of achievement by igbo women that need to be on Wikipedia.

Scope edit

Looks like an amazing project! Maybe it would be interesting to extend the scope of the project to biographies of Nigerian women? --DonCamillo (talk) 15:34, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you DonCamillo for this. I believe the scope will be extended. --Blossom Ozurumba (talk) 05:30, 14 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request approved edit

Hi Blossom Ozurumba. Thank you for being open to our feedback and working to secure a local experienced Wikimedian to support with the training and editathons. It's great to know that DonCamillo is available to partner on this project. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you run into any challenges. Updated project end dates edit

Hello Morgan Jue, Thank you so much for your mail communicating the need to explain the new date change. I will first apologise for not making a request for changes to the project dates on the discussion page first, I was not aware of the established process. Though ignorance is not usually an excuse, I ask that you please accept my sincere apologies. I once more thank you for the kind support. As requested, the new date is to accomodate the need for the final session of the edit-a-thons which we have not been able to hold due to reasons of conflicting schedules, most recently the meet-up of the Abuja Hub of the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria amongst other reasons. I do hope that the new date is approved and I thank you sincerely for the immense support. — Blossom Ozurumba Talk 09:48, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
