Activities

edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community? Wiki Loves Africa 2020 in Rwanda will focus on photo shooting activities under the year theme which will about "Transportation". The photos that will be taken will be uploaded on Commons and will be used to depict and improve articles related to Rwanda and Africans under transportation on Wikipedia and its other sister projects.

2. How will you let people know about the contest? We will use the created Rwanda user group Facebook page but also use posters and banners in other known places to be accessed with people who might have interests to the project, these are: Westerwelle Kigali, Ishyo Art Centre , Kigali Public Library, and Impact Hub Kigali . In addition to that, we shall also use banners to increase the awareness of the contest.

3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes? We will have a panel of 3 judges who have much more expertise in the photography area. They will judge based on the following criteria:

  • Authenticity
  • Creativity
  • Appealing to the audience

4. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

With the support of the most experienced Wikimedian,Geoffrey Katerega from the the neighboring Wikimedia user group - Uganda and we will also organize edit-a-thons for the newbies to learn how to upload all the taken photos, use some of the photos to improve some existing articles on the Rwanda transportation and we may use the edit-a-thons opportunity to create new articles with these newly taken photos.

5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This is the first time that Rwanda is participating in this contest and will be great opportunity to kick off and raise awareness about Wikimedia and eventually grow the community here.
