Problem: It takes time to copy coordinates and directions to indicate the location of a photo.
Who would benefit: Everyone, especially those who take a lot of pictures for Commons.
Proposed solution: Add a map directly integrated in UploadWizard to point to a location, similar to what exists in structured data or on tools like Freeside (many newbies or occasional contributors don't even know their existance). This would save a lot of time and allow us to add more photos or specify location data more often.
Support Only if it rounds the coordinates to D°M′S″ with no decimals, or if that is technically difficult, exactly four decimals in the decimal format, i.e. D.dddd°. Abductive (talk) 09:04, 9 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
support though I have to say, I don't know what this would look like and how you would prevent it from being too resource intensive with lots of uploads — Rhododendritestalk \\ 14:54, 9 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Update: Striking support. It's annoying to add geocoordinates as it is, but there are too many other more important (IMO) wishlist items. — Rhododendritestalk \\ 22:25, 9 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oppose as this will lead to many inaccurate locations. Better to use the metadata on the file. Keepcalmandchill (talk) 01:02, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If the file has metadata, the map should default to pointing there. — Omegatron (talk) 14:58, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If it's about the Exif, most files don't have such coordinates and therefore they must be added manually. If it's about Commons metadata, it's much easier to add them directly at the upload, rather than going through the metadata, which often takes more time and doubles a task. Small contributors may not even know what it is. — Baidax💬 17:42, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
