Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Multimedia and Commons/(Un)-Pause Buttons for animated GIFs

< Community Wishlist Survey 2019‎ | Multimedia and Commons

◄ Back to Multimedia and Commons  The survey has concluded. Here are the results!

  • Problem: Animated Gifs are an important way of illustrating some concepts. But they can also be extremely distracting and annoying while reading text near to them.
  • Who would benefit: All readers and editors
  • Proposed solution: Add a lite icon to allow to stop the animation. If the icon is pressed stop the animation and replace the icon with another icon that allows to resume the playback.
  • More comments: The nowerdays defunct Firefox-Addon Toggle animated GIFs implemented this very nicely.

DiscussionEdit

  • Animation without a pause/unpause button is listed as an accessibility issue by the WCAG. So, this might be a reasonable add for a gadget. --Izno (talk) 23:52, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
  • I'd appreciate this very much. And sometimes it would also be useful to play the animation slower or backwards. --Megatherium (talk) 21:06, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
