Celebrate Women!
Wikipedia hosts more than 1.9 million biographies. Less than 20% of those are about women. Citations to women, pictures of women and women's perspectives on relevant topics have similar gaps. If Wikipedia wants to become the sum of human knowledge, this needs to change. With such a large gender gap, we are far from reaching this goal. International Women's Day is an important moment to remind ourselves of the gender gap for women and all under-represented groups and to renew our efforts to ensure representation of all people.
This page gathers several events that take place on or around International Women's Day (8 March) and Women's History Month in March 2023, and where the goal is to come closer to closing the gender gap. | Wiki Loves Women | Wiki Loves Women focuses on bridging two significant gaps on Wikimedia projects – women and Africa – both in terms of content about these subjects and in terms of participation by people from these groups. In March, it organises the annual contest Tell Us About Her – Women on the Frontline Climate to improve image descriptions.
