"'Santa Petersburg Wikimedia's"' (RU-SPB) is a group of Wikimedia movement participants interested in various topics related to Special:MyLanguage/Category:Saint Petersburg of Saint Petersburg, and working in any language section of any Wikimedia project. This group is also called to unite all Wikimedia residents living in St. Petersburg. The application for the creation of the group was submitted to the Acceptance Committee on 22 July 2019 and approved on 25 September 2019.

Objectives

Promotion of Saint Petersburg related topics in different languages
Promotion of Wikimedia projects in Saint Petersburg
Establishment partnerships between Wikimedia community and various cultural, science, educational and media organizations based in St.Petersburg
Support and promotion "Wikimedian in Residence" initiative in St.Petersburg
Cooperating with local authorities, organizations and individuals to receive grants and other materials to promote free knowledge in Saint Petersburg

Activities

Organizing wikimeetups in St.Petersburg
Organizing article contests and thematic weeks about topics related to St.Petersburg
Organizing wiki-excursions and another events for establishments relationship between community and cultural institutions based in St.Petersburg
Joining projects organized and promoted by Wikimedia RU (Wikimedia local chapter in Russia) and promote them in Saint Petersburg
Cooperation with North-West Russia Wiki-Historians User Group and other local user groups
etc.

History

First wiki-meetup in Russia was organized by wikimedians from St. Petersburg at the May 1, 2005
Wiki-project "St. Petersburg" in the Russian Wikipedia was started at the May 6, 2006
First Wiki-Conference in Russia also was held in St. Petersburg at the Oct 27-28, 2007
Since then, more than 50 wiki-meetings have been held in St. Petersburg
