Abstract (up to 100 words)

Most people who don't contribute to Wikimedia have never really considered dozens of ways they could contribute, because they had no idea those were things one could do in Wikimedia. People easily decide "writing encyclopedic articles" isn't their idea of fun, and leap to the mistaken conclusion that volunteering in Wikimedia would not be fun for them. But there are hundreds of other ways to help creating and sharing free knowledge, as we know! Why are we so terrible at encouraging volunteers to help us in those other ways?

I'll discuss the concept briefly, offer a few examples, and then brainstorm with the audience on what it would take to successfully make use of this great untapped potential in the CEE region.

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe?

Most CEE communities are mid-sized, or even small. Even a handful of new, say, illustration and graphics design, volunteers, or bot programming volunteers, could make a huge difference! Also, communicating better the wealth of opportunities to get involved with Wikimedia will likely also diversify our contributors, attracting people we haven't been able to attract before.

Do you plan to pre-record a video with a presentation?

No.
