SVG Translate Community wishlist survey project edit

Hello! Thank you for voting for the SVG Translate project that was proposed in the 2017 Wishlist survey. The Community Tech team in the Wikimedia Foundation is beginning to start their work on the project. We're currently looking for feedback on some open questions which will allow us to come up with preliminary designs for the tool. If you are interested in being involved, you can watch the project page and join in the discussions on the talk page. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and learning from your experiences. Thank you. -- NKohli (WMF), Product Manager, Community Tech (talk) 21:53, 16 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Community Wishlist Survey edit

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:25, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support edit

Hello. You are receiving this message because you are active in the field of translations <3 The movement needs you! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.

A Translation Central is available to help translators figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome.

While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :) Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 13:20, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Interesting to watch out edit

LinguaLibre/SignIt/ja ready edit

Hi, @Yug, your request at Village Pump/ja is filled for SignIt and it is in ja now.

Can you maybe push LinguaLibre/SignIt#See also for translation as well please? That section includes links IMHO which those editing jawiki:手話 might need to follow sign languages topics:

Thank you again reaching out to jawp, and ping me anytime if you need short pages to en-ja translation. Cheers, -- Omotecho (talk) 06:39, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello Omotecho, thank you a lot for the translation already done, and for sharing your good will.
LinguaLibre/SignIt and Lingua Libre's video Recording Studio's translation into Japanese (and others) lays the way for later (2023 ?) video contributions in Japanese (and others) Sign Languages. So thank you for your help already.
Not before, not in 2022 due to one current technical issue.
Still, we look for contacts and volunteers to video record sign language words in 2023... If you have contacts in the Japanese deaf / hearing impaired / signing community who would be activist and motivated enough to spend hours recordings and creating a decent sign language dictionary (~400 words per hour), please let me know. Those hearing impaired activists are the rarest and most valuable assets for the next phases of this Sign language awareness project. Yug (talk) 07:05, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Omotecho,
Following your message I expanded the English page and asked help to add the translation tags. More edits and text tinkering is expected this week. So I would encourage your to wait a week or so before translating into Japanese. (Note: my English is not perfect, so that may need a review as well) Yug (talk) 07:42, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello, @Yug, So wonderful that you introduced me to the coming stages how the ppl with special needs be served, and initiate another dimension of wikis in coming months.
(1) Will you list those pages on jawp for reference please?
Next topic (2). I may point out, we have two organizations that screen and issue certificate to sign language interpreters. our national broadcaster, NHK (half private and half governmental), airs daily a news program in sign language on weekdays. On weekend, they air weekly wrap-up with edited recording as well as small weekly corners.
(3) As I am yet to find circles organized by/for hearing/sight impaired on ja wikis, let me look around. If it were Brail, no other than the Tokyo Light House (a Brail library) is the driving force as they involved engineering sector to invent their DAISY system, or audio recording delivered from municipal libraries to individuals free of postage/rental fees.
(4) I now have a dream: that an audio translation/machine interpretation on your smartphone will realize one day. I will wisper to my iPhone, show the screen to my deaf friend, and she will watch the Machine translated sign played for her. yey! Cheers, Omotecho (talk) 16:40, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello Omotecho, For (1), ja:Wikipedia:アクセシビリティ has an English version, :en:Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility. But web accessibility is not the focus of SignIt. SignIt aims to demonstrate the reuse of Wikimedia Commons Sign Language video and promote Sign language learning among commoners. It is therefore first asking sign language interpreters or special needs people to contribute, so in the long run their friends and our societies become more sign-friendly and inclusive. So :en:Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility doesn't seems spot on to be included in the SignIt page. (2) Good to know, "sign language interpreters" will be an useful key word for future outreaches.
(3) It is difficult to find. But once in a while, there are some sign language people showing up and asking around can lead to some activists. We identified 2 in France, and we would like to collaborate with them in 2023. (4) I represented WM-fr at the 2022 Language Resources and Evaluation (international) Conference this July, We met some machine learning academic researches working precisely on such systems, doing either (A) sign language video recognition (video to text), or (B) text to sign language translation (text to video). Lingua Libre can help *a lot* the (A) but quickly producing few thousands videos to feed the Machine learning system. Then, the reverse (B) would be easier to do. Some good stuff is coming.

Micro-financement edit
