Vandalism in zh-yue

Thank you for your effort. Because this vandalism was not the first time. That ip user usually starts after midnight or morning. Your effort is very much appreciated. As I checked, the person uses some proxy in other country. --WikiCantona (talk) 19:58, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. We're here to help each other. I have blocked some of the proxys globally. Your wiki doesn't have that many active administrators. Why is it not covered by Global sysops? The global sysops are around 25 experienced users that has admin rights on the 500 smallest wikis for fighting vandalism, and five of them where involved in this case. Maybe something for you to discuss with your local community. -- Tegel (Talk) 20:08, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
This is a good idea. I will keep that in mind. Since the active vandalism has been sparse, usually we can deal with it. --WikiCantona (talk) 20:14, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Just wanted to let you know the different options. -- Tegel (Talk) 20:22, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Viwiktionary

I would like to opt Viwiktionary out of global sysop help. We have 6 sysops and 1 bureaucrat. Even though only few sysops to 1 sysop is active and we don't really have like a community to reach consensus on this. There is maybe 1 other user beside the sysops. There aren't much to do anyway so I don't see any reasons that we need any help from global sysops. We don't need the help. We would rather to do by ourselves, that's the Vietnamese tradition.Trongphu (talk) 23:44, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The vi.wiktionary has too few administrators that are active for a default opt-out. So the only way for a opt-out is that you reach a local consensus for this decision. Provide a link to this decision when the local discussion is over. -- Tegel (Talk) 02:35, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, nobody in Vietnamese community agrees with Trongphu (you can see the bottom of this discussion, here and here). Tranminh360 (talk) 13:24, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Teredo tunneling edit

I was going to add to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teredo_tunneling under Security Considerations that "Teredo tunneling reveals your true IP address and thus makes anonymizers useless. Teredo tunneling must be disabled when using anonymizers."

Unfortunately you have blocked my anonymizer, and i cannot find a proxy that isn't blocked, so I can't edit. I don't want to reveal to Swedish law enforcement and SÄPO that I want privacy, by making said edit without anonymizer. That is a surefire way of being suspected of terrorism and such, in today's and tomorrow's crazy surveillance society.

Therefore i kindly ask you to add the text within quotes above, or something with about the same meaning, to the page.

46.21.99.26 22:40, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Do you really think that SÄPO cares about people editing Wikipedia? One other option is that you create an account and edit. Then you're protected by the Wikimedia Foundation Privacy Policy and only a few user can see your real IP-address, and only if you do something bad. If you only do good edits no one will ever find out your IP-address. Or you can just let the people that uses Mullvad's services to read the information on their website instead.
Do you have an independent reliable source to the information that you want to add?
Sen ska man inte ändra på andras diskussionsinlägg, som du gjorde ovan. -- Tegel (Talk) 23:08, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Do you really think that they don't? I am absolutely certain that if they don't already, they will with very high certainty do so within twenty years. Just look at the US. This won't lead anywhere, you will call me a tin foil hat and I will call you naïve, and none of us will accept the slightest bit of what the other has to say. Also, it's missing the point, really.
The information is already on Mullvad's page, but Wikipedia is THE web encyclopedia. Most people look there first.
I am not protected against the Data Retention Directive by creating an account. As I understand it, one can not even edit via an "open proxy" after logging in. Besides, it gives more text tied to one anonymous individual for data mining software to analyze in order to identify said individual.
Sources: https://mullvad.net/sv/faq.php#teredo https://mullvad.net/sv/teredo_disable_win.php (Both in Swedish)

-- Tegel (Talk) 16:34, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello

This IP number make a vandalism. --This unsigned article written by: User:Aguzer 16:32, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

From what I can see the user from the IP-address is adding a comment regarding his block that you remove. Why?
Then you removes all the comments that you have added, even after other users has commented, based on your comment. Why? That probably makes the discussion looks strange, because other users has commented on something that is not there any more. My recommendation is: leave other users comments alone and don't remove your comments after someone has replied. -- Tegel (Talk) 16:43, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have a message page, hi. But You: Why, I: I want. --This unsigned article written by: User:Aguzer 21:12, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
You asked the question here and to keep the discussion together I answered here. I don't know what policys you have on the Turkish Wikipedia, but this is Meta. Don't remove other users comments unless it's considered vandalism. And I can't see that this is the case here. Don't remove your comment after other user has replied. And edit warring is not the answer to the problem. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:14, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

problem

Hej,

GREENHOUSE TOURISM

Dear Tegel, I am requesting you to guide me on how I can commence data on the subject of Greenhouse Tourism, it was developed and introduced to model tourism response to Climate change I am requesting that you guide me how I can follow rightful procedure.89.240.40.131 20:00, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

The first I can say is that Meta (this wiki) is the wrong place. This wiki is for coordinating thing among all the Wikimedia wikis. It's not a place for an article. If you would like to promote a company that works with green tourism then it's better to use your own webpage. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia. If the topic is relevant for an article on Wikipedia is depending on the different criterias specified on each wiki. See List of Wikipedias for a list of all Wikipedia in different languages. -- Tegel (Talk) 20:12, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
You where editing the talk page that belong to the user "GREENHOUSE TOURISM". If you are that user, then I would recommend you to use your own web page. -- Tegel (Talk) 20:20, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dear Tegel I was invited to post this Concept by Wiki padia please see the weblink http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:GREENHOUSE_TOURISM, I also received information from Stephen PHilbrik of the Wiki information team to go a head to post data, I am requesting that you assist and provide me with correct data, please the concept I am developing is Greenhouse Tourism and not Green Tourism.

Edward Mashate78.146.24.204 20:54, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

That is a welcome message given to all new user. Please read Meta:About regarding what Meta is ans is not. You are probably looking for Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia. I posted a link above to a list of all Wikipedias. I have provided you with the information where to write an article. -- Tegel (Talk) 20:59, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

All of them work (auomatic log in) but the meta account doesn´t work. I even cannot log in, because it says, the password is wrong. (It isn´t, because it works on all other projects). Who can help me? Please answer on my disk (german account) Thanx. Partynia --178.26.64.20 20:47, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Eco-yourism

This is EdwestminsterEdwestminster (talk) 11:45, 12 March 2013 (UTC) a new Editor, who is an amateur, I am interested in Tourism and Environmental Management I would like us to discuss on some issues related to Tourism development There are two concepts that I am disagreeing with what is Eco-Tourism and Wildlife Tourism in Wiki Encyclopedia as far as i am concerned the two concepts are actually one. And they do not vary in any way in terms of Science and Economic interpretation.Reply

I feel that these two concepts are going to cause confusion and eventually in the future in one being deleted and I know that the Wildlife Tourism strand will be eventually deleted because the official name within UNEP and World Tourism organisation is Eco-Tourism.

I wanted us to discuss this topic comprehensively,

I have the possibility to act if it's an emergency. But contacting me on my talk page is not the quickest way to get something done. If possible, try to contact the local admins first. In this case the IP-address got blocked just a couple of minutes after you informed the local admin. If it's an emergency I would recommend #wikimedia-stewardsconnect on IRC. There you can get hold of a Steward most of the time. In the case of Serbo-Croatioan Wikipedia a Global Sysop can also help you. You can find them in #wikimedia-gsconnect, or often in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect. -- Tegel (Talk) 19:41, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I tried and I couldn't find the rename section for bxr so you were my first stop. Does bxr even have a WP:CHU? if not can you usurp the username so I can log in and grab it to do a full unification of my username? The bxr.wikipedia doesn't have any Bureaucrats, so if there was a page for requesting rename (I don't know if it exists) it wouldn't have any effect. So the proper place to request a rename would be Steward requests/Username changes. The user at bxr.wikipedia didn't have any edits, so I have renamed the account so it's now available for you. -- Tegel (Talk) 16:25, 23 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't notify before hand of my said offense and may I know the exact the ground on why my account was been blocked. Thank you --Vhinczefied (talk) 07:33, 2 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. It's not your account that is blocked. It's the IP-address that you are currently using (IP 203.177.74.144) that is blocked. That is because someone has used that IP-address to create spam-accounts and has been spreading spam on different wikis. I have modified the block so you can login with your account. -- Tegel (Talk) 08:40, 2 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

You haven't done anything wrong. It's the IP-address that you got that has been used by a spammer before you and that is why the IP-address is blocked. I see that you have edited the English Wikipedia today, so do you still have this problem? -- Tegel (Talk) 15:58, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Blocking a user with the assumption that he/she's running a bot by just evaluating his/her edit speed is I think a great mistake. Userpage edit removal

Hello Tegel. I apologise for my very belated reply. On mk.wiki we generally keep to the view that user talk edits can be removed only if deemed too offensive by the community (so, by agreement), whether they be done by the user him-/herself or others. That is why I have not acted on his requests. I also don't quite understand what you meant by 'the subject' - obviously something I'm unaware of. In any case, I'd appreciate to know more about it. I have also notified the other admins to better investigate what is going on and consult together about what should to be done. Regards, --B. Jankuloski (talk) 09:30, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thanks for your reply. What I refereed to when talking about that user isn't neutral to the subject is that, as I understand it, the name of the account that deleted content from the article talk page is the same as the article name. Google Translate translates "Игор Јанев" to "Igor Janey". That could mean that the user removed criticism on the talk page regarding an article about him self. If it's an article about him self then he is not neutral to the article. I see now that the users account is globally locked for Cross-wiki abuse. -- Tegel (Talk) 11:00, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. As you can see from the list your account is not blocked from editing on any wiki. The only reason I can see is that the IP-address that you're currently using is blocked, for some reason. That can happen from time to time if you get a new IP-address and the user that used it before you where vandalising. To be able to help you I need to know the IP-address that you're currently using. When Jdzarlino was 23 years old he was learning how to brend rdfa in the #USNavy. As a beta tester for Control Video Corporation created the user name Jdzarlino on AOL that Jim Kimsey founded. AOL franchised its services and those processes were brended by brending while on active duty for the United States Navy classified as project Whydah. Ingress routers are a W3C HTML5 trade secret on open source with respect to the public domain and brended object based software like paint invented by Steve Jobs.

Founded in 1983 as Control Video Corporation, an online services company by Jim Kimsey from the remnants of Control Video Corporation, AOL has franchised its services to companies in several nations around the world or to set up international versions of its services. Hello Tegel - I do not understand the proper process of how the various pages work on these servers. I do know that this web site is one of top five in the world and I am asking you and other administrators for assistance in keeping others from hating on my brends. A brend is a word that comes from brending. Brending is a neologism invented on March 9th 2013. I was asked not to brend as Kiwanis2015 by some other administrator and he told me he would protect me from Orangemike so I could log back on to my original user name I started using in 1983. I'have see it in the meantime, and so it's not a problem, to public, my dynamic IP-adresse. But I think it's not a good idea, to lock a dynamic adress for 1 month. The success is relativ small against the collateral damage which is appearing with the lock. New user can easy be stopped for the future. --Karl Gruber (talk) 13:15, 25 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
There are many cases where someone create an account to spam from, and when the account is locked they come back from the same IP-address after a couple of days to create new accounts and continue to spam. That is why dynamic IP-addresses sometimes is blocked for longer time than normal. I know that there is a risk that innocent user gets affected by the block, but if they create an account from another IP-address we can arrange so they can edit from a blocked IP-address. It's a balance between protecting the projects from spam and making it easy for new user to contribute. -- Tegel (Talk) 13:55, 25 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

198.7.58.64/26 and spambots

The range belongs to a web hosting company and is probably a proxy. Some of the accounts blocked here[2] are associated with the range, and most (including the spambots) are probably the same vandal but other accounts, including Cleyndori and Metecanozen and unused accounts whose primary wikis are non-English, may be unrelated users. A check of some of these accounts on the English Wikipedia[3][4] found others not mentioned: Donagluithan, User5482, Toronto8793 and Satnav (all blocked, although I'm not sure about the last three) - are they related to the locked accounts or not? I suspect User:Homeontherange 1 is another account operated by the same vandal, as some of the blocked accounts (Sonofzion969, Heartheebiejee94 and Honoqa) had claimed to be the same user and an edit summary by Canadacrox is similar to a request by Homeontherange 1. Everything will be the same when an account is renamed. It's just the name of the account that will be different. Settings, password and contribution history will be the same. Deletion of Standard offer

Hello. I think the page is relevant here, but needs to be modified to include perceptions/other wiki's variations of the "standard offer". I do not agree with your deletion. @Leucosticte: PiRSquared17 (talk) 22:30, 14 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that was a starting point and placeholder; the intent was to research and find out how/whether standard offers with reference to unbanning/unblocking are applied on Wikimedia wikis in general. You can restore to my userspace if you think it's not ready for mainspace yet. Hopefully in the future you'll be saved the trouble. Thanks, Leucosticte (talk) 22:42, 14 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
It seems he is doing some "research" on this (see Wikipedians in Exile/Data on granting and denial of standard offer requests). But I'm not sure if it is even possible to find out how many were declined or approved. Many were discussed in private, and should remain so. I'd rather not interfere with your decisions, and I don't want to wheel-war, so I'll leave the rest for you two to discuss. PiRSquared17 (talk) 22:49, 14 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Probably at this time, the only source of data concerning ArbCom decisions would be from the users themselves. I think that the ArbComs should release at least the data about who requested an unban when and what was the result and when. However, data concerning the communities' granting or declining standard offer requests is already publicly available; it's just a matter of researching to find it in all the places it's scattered about. Leucosticte (talk) 22:58, 14 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Standard offer is nothing that we have here on Meta today. So if you want to have it as a point for discussion I think that you should place it somewhere else than the main space. Either as a subpage to your user page or as a RFC. If it's in the main space other user might think that it's something that we offer here on Meta. Copy the hole page from en.wiki without some reference to the history might be a license issue as well since there is not any credit to the people originally writing the text. -- Tegel (Talk) 12:37, 15 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
