CentralNotice/Request#WikiGap_2018_Ukraine edit

Hi Romaine, I'm here again to bother you with another banner we would like to ask for. Do you have spare time for this? 'Cause I'll be super grateful. Thanks! --Ата (talk) 14:14, 14 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ата, I was away for a few days, is this still an open request? And if yes, the date is in the past and needs an update first. PS: A request is normally made 10 days before the start, and as my agenda is often full, if my help is wanted, I need to know it enough time on forehand to be able to plan a little bit. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 15:47, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why was 47thPennVols's user page deleted by you? edit

47thPennVols's user page was deleted by you and recently restored given the discussion on https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat#Request_for_assistance. Can you comment on why you deleted it and whether you have an issue with it getting restored? ChristianKl (talk) 14:02, 4 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your message. I explained on my talk page and the Project chat what happened. The deletion was made in error, so no problem that it has been restored. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 01:08, 5 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Impression diet for WLE kr edit

Hi, can you apply some impression diet on WLE so experienced editors don't have to see same banners all the time? (Of course I can close the banner, but I don't think showing this all the time is a good idea.) — regards, Revi 07:59, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi -revi, I am a huge fan of the impression diet, but the way how Wiki Loves Earth is organised prevents me from enabling this setting. If we would apply an impression diet, interested photographers are not able to find the website back with information how to participate in the contest, resulting in a big loss of uploaded photos. This basically as many people are not able to find back the contest website. The general flow of the user is as follows:
  • Someone visits Wikipedia -> sees banner -> clicks on it and reads about the contest -> goes out to take photos -> back home goes again to Wikipedia for the contest banner -> clinks on it -> on landing page participants reads where to find the special upload link to upload photos.
I think it would be good think about redesigning Wikimedia contests flows in such way that the second visit for the banner is not needed, like with first subscribing to a participants list in a Google Doc (like we did in Belgium with Wiki Loves Public Space). But such would require a larger discussion.
If a banner is not interested, it should be clicked away. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 08:19, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • WLE2018TW was enabled for KR. I changed it to TW. Please verify. I may have clicked something weird because I’m in mobile and just tried to remove the TW targetted banner to KR. — regards, Revi 17:27, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

WLE DE central notice shows up for users from Austria edit

Hi Romaine, the DE version of the central notice seems to have the unwanted side effect of showing up for users in Austria. Do you have an idea why that is? Braveheart (talk) 20:48, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Braveheart, The CentralNotice is what I heard also depending on the cookies someone has in their browser. If someone has made connection through a German connection, even a month later that person can still have that cookie with the German geotag in it, causing that even currently connecting through a Austrian connection, the CentralNotice still recognises it as a German connection, showing a German banner. Besides deleting cookies, there s not much how that can be influenced. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 21:10, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Interesting, thanks for the hint! Braveheart (talk) 22:14, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

MediaWiki:Centralnotice-wle 2018 pt-text(pt and pt-br) edit

Hi Romaine, the current contents of MediaWiki:Centralnotice-wle 2018 pt-text/pt is written in pt-br. I'd really appreciate it if you could:

  1. copy the content of MediaWiki:Centralnotice-wle 2018 pt-text/pt into MediaWiki:Centralnotice-wle 2018 pt-text/pt-br.
  2. replace the content of MediaWiki:Centralnotice-wle 2018 pt-text/pt by "Maio é o mês do concurso fotográfico Wiki Loves Earth Portugal 2018
Carregue fotografias do património natural Português, para ajudar a Wikipédia e ganhar prémios!

New community space for IdeaLab on Connect edit

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community Health edit

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:14, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

(Opt-out instructions)

Hi I JethroBT (WMF), This subject is very interesting! Sadly I get lost on the page you link to. A lot of ideas, but I miss the community health related topics. I think we should have (more) sessions about this topic during conferences. I would be happy to stay informed and help out. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 01:16, 5 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Community Wishlist Survey edit

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018 edit

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
