Deletion of Talk:LanguagePt.php
Dear Pathoschild, I see that you deleted the Talk:LanguagePt.php page here on MediaWiki, could you please email me - at wikipedista@gmail.com - a copy of the code of the most recent version before deletion?
Thank you and my best regards, Get_It 14:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Get_It. I've placed the code at User talk:Pathoschild/LanguagePT.php. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 19:30, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of Page
Why was PageProtection_jonabbey deleted? It was a modified version of the PageProtection extension sources, with changes I made which I wanted the original author to review. Can this be reverted, or do I have to upload it again? -- Jonabbey 17:29, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello. The page was moved to PageProtection/Sourcecode (Jonabbey), which was noted on PageProtection and Talk:PageProtection. I apologize if you didn't notice the page move; I assumed you'd see the updates to the pages on your watchlist. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 17:31, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

You know, you have to wonder: where do they get all these IPs? — Ambush Commander(Talk) 02:50, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Page move vandals are usually meme vandals— they have so many IPs simply because there are many different users vandalising under a common name. To answer literally, they typically get them from the applicable Regional Internet Registry through a commercial intermediary. ;) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 03:18, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- (laughs) I suppose so. Although Special:Logs/Block seems to indicate that most of the blockings on this wiki are due to page move vandalism. The power of memes... — Ambush Commander(Talk) 03:25, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

CSS being redirected to user style
I don't believe that the pages have the same purpose. I might make a special link from CSS to user style though.. I did remember that the user settable CSS features had their own page... Your userspace usurper
While Meta is certainly more of an individual effort for certain pages, it's somewhat irritating to see that position:absolute;top:0;left:0 on User:Pathoschild/templates/user page header. First of all, the CSS doesn't even usurp it cleanly: part of "From Meta" gets cut off. Second of all, the title supplied doesn't match the actual page name, something quite important if you want to navigate back to the page. I humbly request that you remove that bit of CSS. Please? Ambush Commander 02:48, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the path, which coincidentally should also fix the visible underlying text. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:08, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Neat. I still don't agree with its use in the mainspace, but this is a lot better. Ambush Commander 19:28, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Please be aware here is meta
Like "Template:Proxyip2", I suppose it is helpful, but I'd like you to realize it ambiguity too. You are better to say ENWP, or enwiki, not just WP. WP can stand for many wikis. Here on meta. Such ambiguity is unhelpful for many editors. I expect you know, on meta, more than half editors are active on other wikipedia than English.
I hope you try to refer to things more precisely in future. --Aphaia 11:45, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- proxyip2 is exclusively intended for the MetaProject on open proxies, which is currently based only on English wikis (with the exception of Meta). There is thus no need to disambiguate between languages; if you are willing to open a new chapter on a non-English wiki, the template will be amended to disambiguate languages. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 17:05, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Removal of Czech characters
Hi, your contribution [2] removed Czech characters like 'ě','ř' and 'Č' and replaced it by 'e','r' and 'C'. It makes links pointing to wrong places. I think that there is a problem in your software. Check it, please. Thanks. --RuM 09:06, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- I apologize for any inconvenience that caused; I've corrected the problem on the page and in the archives. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:37, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
User page header
I disabled the user page header. While I'd like to say it's because no-one person should be able to "own" pages in the mainspace, this time around it's because it collides with the site-wide notice. However, I would be in favor of keeping it gone even when the notice is gone. — Ambush Commander(Talk) 21:14, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Please discuss such changes with the user in question; this mitigates conflict and increases the likelihood that the affected user won't simply revert. Note that the only page in the mainspace using this template is Meta:Language select— and that as a relic from the time that was a proposal in my userspace. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 01:44, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, that was really the only page in the mainspace? My bad. Thanks for not reverting. :-D — Ambush Commander(Talk) 02:12, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

CURRENTTIME to CET
What variable should I use for getting CURRENTTIME in Central European Time? Thanx. Gubbubu 19:41, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- There is no variable to do so, as far as I know. You could do so by using ParserFunctions, but that would be awkward template coding; why do you want to do that? // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 19:55, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- That's needed for other time-zones?!
-- Olliminatore 18:44, 10 May 2006 (UTC):CURRENTMINUTE
(CET)
- That's needed for other time-zones?!
- There are now ParserFunction templates on Wikipedia which displays the current hour and minute. These don't exist on the Meta-Wiki, or likely on any other wiki. If that method is to be used, the appropriate templates and those they depend on will need to be ported. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:22, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I see now, (my calculation was wrong too, if 24) they it already gives complete date Templates (which I think are extreme resource hungry for the server). -- Olliminatore 12:37, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Open proxy verified user request...

I don't know a lot about Open proxies, but I'd be willing to be a verified user if it would help in checking requests. I realize my account here on meta has super low edits (don't remember offhand if the requirements were 300+ edits on meta or just wiki in general), but I can confirm this request on en.wikipedia if needed (admin there). your deletion of Meimasism and Turkism
I do not understand why they are not source texts, despite reading the guidelines. Could you please explain? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Holy triple m (talk • contribs) 18:09, 19 April 2006.
- For the purposes of Wikisource, a "source text" is defined as a work that has been published and distributed by a verifiable publisher. If you would like to contribute original informational articles, see our sister project Wikipedia. Thanks for your interest in our project. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 19:57, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- I do not understand. Wikipedia has put my articles on proposed deletion because I have no sources apart from www.freewebs.com/meimasism. So how can you tell me that I should go on to Wikipedia? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Holy triple m (talk • contribs) 12:48, 21 April 2006.
- Even if a sister project does not accept them, Wikisource does not collect pages outside its scope. If such an article cannot be independantly verified as accurate and relatively notable, I don't think any project under the Wikimedia Foundation will accept them. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 13:35, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Some More Items for sdelete
Hi. I just marked Wuthering Heights - Chapter I through Wuthering Heights - Chapter X for sdelete. These look like copies left over when Zhaladshar converted Wuthering Heights to use relative links, since they're all copies of "Wuthering Heights/Chapter N". There are more, one for each chapter. I haven't gone through all of them, since that would take a bit. You can find them all listed starting at entry 824 on Orphaned pages special page. 3 - illy 16:15, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Looking at Special:Prefixindex/Wuthering Heights, the situation is a little confusing. It seems Zhaladshar split the text into chapters before the style guide existed, but forgot to remove the text from the main page. Shanel later began splitting the work again, this time to the new title standard. She apparently got as far as chapter XVI; I'll move Zhaladshar's version XVII-XXXIV to the new title, then delete the redundant pages. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 18:46, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that's what I get from stopping at X. :) Thanks. - illy 19:00, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Welcome. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 19:02, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

You blocked my user
Why did you block my user, Marco Polo? You say this is because it references the Venetian explorer. Is this a problem in any way? It is my choice to reference the explorer, as was my intention. Please reactivate my account or give me another reason. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 192.5.36.23 (talk • contribs) 21:57, 7 May 2006.
- Hello. Usernames based on a historical or public figure are often used for defamation or libel of that figure, may be offensive to their family or their descendants, and are sometimes used as generic usernames for automated account creation. Usernames of controversial figures are regularly used to make a political or social statement against them.
- Since you appear to be a legitimate user, and the username is not controversial, I've unblocked the account. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 22:07, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

If you wish to unblock my account, please do so, or restate that you will not. I am confused by the contradiction of your last post with the status of Marco Polo. Elohist source
Hi!
I noticed that on May 4th you deleted the Elohist source of the Documentary Hypothesis (though the Priestly and Jahwist sources were left untouched). I would like to know if your deletion of this page was truly motivated by possible copyright violations, because I cannot possibly imagine a Biblical text could actually be copyrighted. The sooner you get this text back, the faster I can finish my thesis.
My email is amaste05@simons-rock.edu, please contact me ASAP on this matter; I kinda need that text!
Thanks!

- Hello. That page was actually deleted following a nomination at Proposed deletions (see Proposed deletions archives, May 2006, "Bible, English, King James, Documentary Hypothesis, JE source, Elohist source"), where the nominating user believed it to be unpublished research and thus in violation our inclusion policy. If you can find an external source to confirm that this text is published, I'll restore it as soon as possible. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 00:12, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Copyright Violations????????????
Hello Winn3317. Note that I have deleted The Simpsons as a violation of the copyright held by Twentieth Century Fox per our deletion policy. Please review Wikisource's copyright policy, in particular the main section "Contributors' rights and obligations". Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions or comments. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:04, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- My Good Man I Did Not Violate Copyrights in making this script, The raeson for this being: That this script was not under copyright from 20th Century Fox when i found it online. Therefore if anyone is at fault it is the website for copyright violations. But its me that must be shamed by you rebuking me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Winn3317 (talk • contribs) 20:09, 8 May 2006.
- Hello. Wikisource's copyright policy requires that the work by licensed under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License or a compatible license. Unfortunately, other websites often do not respect copyright laws as closely as we, as a project of a legally chartered Foundation, must. The Simpsons are trademarked and copyrighted by Twentieth Century Fox, despite their illegal availability online. As such, we cannot accept transcripts of those episodes without violating their copyright and posing legal problems for the Wikimedia Foundation. I apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your contributions; however, we must take copyright violations very seriously. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 20:21, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Wikisource source code
In the Wikisource source code list, which is marked for eventual deletion, I noticed some subpages have already been deleted. However, I feel that many of these examples would be useful if moved to appropriate Wiki-books on each programming language. Could the deleted pages possibly be restored? -Pcu123456789 15:14, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
Copied here (I am the same person as pcu123456789) since my question was about wikisource. -- 24.210.73.62 21:28, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello PCU. Which pages would you like restored? Note that many of the pages linked to from the source code list have never existed, and were added as placeholders for future pages. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 12:30, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- The page I came across first on Wikisource was QuickTime full screen. I just checked the deletion log, which read "09:48, 18 December 2005 Yann deleted "QuickTime full screen" (not suitable here)". I previously moved the two other Applescripts in that sectrion to Wikibooks. I think that pages in general here could be useful as examples for programming languages, and ought not to be deleted but instead placed on Wikiboks. (Not that I specially like Applescript--it is just how I found this page.) Pcu123456789 22:51, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- I made a page listing the broken links to source code examples (some of these might not have existed, but many did). The page is User:Pcu123456789/source2. Pcu123456789 23:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. Until the end of June, any edits made by 24.210.73.62 are also mine. Pcu123456789 22:53, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- Of the thirty-nine pages on that list, six previously existed but three were nonsense. I've restored the three remaining pages, listed below.

Reference data
What do you think about using your bot to tag everything in :Category:Reference Data and its subcategories with a special deletion tag (ie This page is being considered for exclusion) which would direct all discussion to the Scriptorium instead of Proposed Deletions? That way we do not have to run all these pages through proposed deletions after the poll is finished. Also anyone who has these pages on their watchlist will have to justify reference data in general rather than why their pet article is so important, which is harder. I realize that this would bring people out of the woodwork, but I believe that will happen anyways when we start deleting this stuff. My reasons for wanting to do this are that by bringing them into the disscussion now and listening to what they have to say it shows that we have respect for the effort they took creating these articles. Hopefully the disscusion will be more resonable now, than if they are brought in later on after things have been finalized. I realize that you would probably prefer to keep the disscusion focused around regular contributors at Wikisource, and that this action would prevent that. However I feel that we would be at no disadvantage, truly the reasons for exclusing reference data are solid and they should stand up no matter how many people argue otherwise. If you disagree with this reasoning, please don't worry about me pushing this idea. I brought it up here so you could dismiss if you believe the pitfalls are too great. --BirgitteSB 11:47, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Welcome template problems
When your Pathosbot did a substitution of the welcome template for its contents on my talk page, I noticed that the template content inappropriately talks about posting questions "on my talk page", which makes no sense unless the posting is signed. I have removed this confusing text from the template, but a better solution is to get welcome-posters to sign their posts. I'm not very experienced at Wikisource, so I thought I'd let you know, since you're obviously actively engaged in at least one aspect of WS welcomes. ~ Jeffq 19:28, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the problem is with users not signing their comments. This is often because they use a bot to welcome users, and the bot should be adding their signatures. I'll bring it up on the Scriptorium; thanks for pointing it out. // Pathoschild (admin / talk) 19:46, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Updating Javascript page
Hi, Pathoschild. I don't really know what exactly I'm doing with the updating script thing (I looked at WS:SCRIPTS but couldn't figure it out—I might just be too tired). So, if you don't mind, if you could add the necessary bit that will allow my Javascript page to be automatically updated, that would be great. Thanks!—Zhaladshar (Talk) 04:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I've reformatted the code; please tell me if any of the code stops functioning. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:27, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Header template
I know we have talked about this before, but I think it would look much better if the Section parameter where under the Title. Since we now have parser functionality does that mean this could be implemented in an elegant fashion?--BirgitteSB 12:42, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Feel free to start a discussion on the Scriptorium on whether it looks better underneath, and I'll code whatever format is preferred. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 14:55, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- So does that mean it is possible to do it elegantly now? I vaguely remember you said before that it would look bad when left blank. I forget exactly why, and I was hoping parser has changed this.--BirgitteSB 18:21, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it's easy to do with ParserFunctions. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 21:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for your contributions, which seem to be formatted very well. I haven't had the chance to read any of them, but they do seem to be interesting. One thing that's missing is the header template at the top of each page, which identifies the work and authorship information. When mass-adding short stories from one author, copy and pasting the text below will usually suffice:

Thanks. // Pathoschild (admin / talk) 02:53, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the Help on tables
Hello Banjee ca. I noticed you tried to use to create a table heading; that template is specifically used for pages in the Index, and shouldn't be used elsewhere. However, there's an easy way to create the table manually using the CSS class "prettytable":
Heading 1 | Heading 2 | Heading 3 |
---|---|---|
Cell 1 | Cell 2 | Cell 3 |
Cell 1 #2 | Cell 2 #2 | Cell 3 #2 |
I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me on my talk page if you have any questions. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 21:25, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Summary Judgement Regarding German Constitution
I noticed that you reverted my changes to the translation of the German Basic Law because I didn't write an edit summary. I understand that the version that you reverted to is the version that was produced by the Federal Ministers of the Interior, Justice and Finance in July 1991. Alternate versions have also been produced, for example the on the is currently published by the German government, as well as, for instance, this translation, which is courtesy of the German Law Archive. There is no "official" translation of the German Basic Law; the law is only in effect in its original version. Translations should be made available to the public as an imperfect reproduction of the original, to be used as a reference for those who do not speak German. The version that you posted is already referenced in the corresponding Wikipedia article and those who are interested in it can simply follow that link to read it, or access the government's version referenced above; why does it need to be copied here verbatim? Wouldn't it make sense to make a better version available that is based on collaboration, and thereby produce a more accurate representation of the original? This is an excellent resource for this purpose, why not use it? People will benefit from an accurately translated legal document, especially one that is much-referenced and of certain significance.
Why did you revert all my changes at once, rather than addressing the specific points that you disagree with? Have you even compared the two versions against the German original? Did you discard the changes based on someone else's review or your own interpretation of the law? I'm curious... translation is hard and I'm not perfect either; I'm not sure how I can provide an edit summary for every single sentence that I change, but nonetheless I don't see a reason not to produce a better version; can you give me one? Like I said, I don't claim to be "better" than anyone else (but I believe the current version can be improved), so if you or someone else disagrees with my edit, please address it or change it directly, rather than simply deleting everything, merely based on the fact that another version already exists. If you would like to refrain from summary deletion of my edits in the future, I'll gladly do my best to give an explanation in the edit summary, although it may not always make sense unless you speak both languages at least near-natively. I'll go ahead now and elaborate on this on the article's talk page to point out some items that could obviously be revised. -- (Patrick 02:13, 2 May 2006 (UTC))
- Hello Freerick. Wikisource is a library; we collect verbatim copies of peer-reviewed, published documents. I reverted your changes in order to preserve the integrity of our copy. We do accept translations made by users; if you do make a new translation, the two translations will be disambiguated and exist seperately. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 02:31, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining; do you know which template to use in an alternate translation? Also, what is the naming convention for secondary translations, and where should they be linked? I read the discussion page about translations, but I don't know what the conclusion of the discussion was. (Patrick 02:41, 2 May 2006 (UTC))
- The style guide recommends disambiguating the title in the format Title (Author) or, if the same author has multiple works with the same name, Title (Author, year). The new translation would be placed at Title (Wikisource), and the old page moved to a similarly disambiguating title. The current page located at Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany would become a disambiguation page.
- The same format and templates would be used in both. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 02:48, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Help Post and my reason for coming!
Hi! I brought over a source link that ought to be transcribed over here in wikisource, and along the way visited in help, found a request for proofing I thought I could handle and did so.
- Since I don't know the rules over here, and have no time to learn such tonight (I've edits stacked up)... I thought I'd have you back check me since your sig says Admin:
- 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Reflection of Light & My 2nd Summary (Proofing, esp. Fig 3; Scaled all images up to width of 422px for readability);
- I'd also added the 'Obvious' link to Wikipedia Optics in an initial edit visit to the page. But you may not want that sort of cross linking over here.
- This historic letter: Olive Branch Letter to w:King George III should be added. If you do so, it's linked from said Kings article to w:Olive Branch Petition, where this is listed as an external link.
Best regards, Fabartus 05:24, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, and welcome to Wikisource. I integrated the link into the EB1911 template, which allows for multiple links. Interwiki linking is encouraged, so feel free to add relevant links to Wikisource pages. However, I scaled the images back down because of float overlap problems in higher resolutions (similar to the example "Extinctioners image overload (Wikipedia).gif" on my domain).
- I've created The Olive Branch Petition in accordance to the style guide, and updated the link at w:Olive Branch Petition. Feel free to contact me again if you need anything else. :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 13:25, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
He's Baaaaaaccccckkk! <g>
- Reaction#1: I looked over your changes — I would have left the smaller images at the (?222px?) [natural size of the 1st small one, iirc], which made the text wrap nicer. I usually test such in Firefox and IE6, and there are sometimes differences; and don't know what I did that night as I was rushed. I've also seen the presentation change in different skins, so will also test sometimes versus the skins used. Hence, I use the default skin as the 'customer-users' are stuck the default skins. I've occassionally tested more exotic image sizing and placement changes (articles with a lot of images, usually both right and left sides) in both browsers and multiple skins. but NBD. Thanks for dealing with that other.
- Reaction#2: I came in via the help page ... never mind, I just posted at WS:S, Have to run. Dentist! Fabartus 14:34, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, Pathoschild, I see you've changed the presentation of the above template significantly. I think this is the sort of thing that's discussed on the talk page before being implemented so I've reverted the changes. Could you please advise on Template talk:Textinfo the changes you want to make & the reasons so this can be discussed. Thanks. AllanHainey 08:46, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello AllanHainey. As far as I can tell, the only visible change was the removal of the text "of PAGENAME" and a switch to two columns. Note that I moved the CSS to the main stylesheet, which is likely cached by your browser; try refreshing or waiting a few days for it to clear, and the template should display as before. If that resolves the display problems, I'll revert back to the recoded version. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:35, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Indent template
Good job! I was just looking through the Scriptorium archive and saw this 'introduced'. Might I suggest that you might have use for an old Computer Science term over here as a category. Specifically: 'Pretty Print', as in there were a lot of utilities in the bad old days called 'pretty print' programs or filters, or program filters. Mostly for 'formating' source code, and language dependent, but seeing that this template has such a presentation usage, the thought popped into me head from 'association' as it were. Best regards, // Fabartus 21:11, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. That's a good idea, although I'd prefer the more common category name 'Formatting templates'. I'll keep that in mind when I get around to categorising the template namespace; feel free to create it yourself if you wish. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 23:56, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Concerning the copyright status of the works of H. G. Wells
I noticed that some works of H. G. Wells (died 1946) are boiler-plated with the Life+100 copyright tag. I had already changed the tag of The Invisible Man to pre-1923 when I noticed you affixed the Life+100 tag to The Time Machine personally.[5] Since you are a somewhat prolific user I (a new user) feel somewhat uneasy about going on. Is there a reason for the Life+100 tags? If so, I'd find their text quite confusing.--GrafZahl 12:45, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out; I've corrected the license tag. Feel free to correct any other mistake I may have made, and if you haven't found it, see Help:Copyright tags for a list of applicable license tags :) // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 23:43, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

sdelete question
I marked 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Aeronautics for speedy deletion (I think). I'm a new to Wikisource, so if you could check it's properly marked & classified, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks Banjee ca 02:51, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, it was correctly marked. However, the article was only vandalised; as you can see from the history, previous revisions were intact. You can revert to an earlier revision by clicking on the date you want to revert to, editing, and saving that old version over the new one. Infobox template problem again
Hi Pathoschild. At [6] you said you'd managed to sort the problem with the Template:Textinfo box ignoring URLs with an equals in them. Unfortunately the problem has returned. Copyright rules
I was looking at Article 133 committee. It's source is http://www.indymedia.ie/article133/. The article was written in 2002 and appears to be published without any copyright information at all. I can't tell that this is the original source, although it seems likely. Do I assume it's copywritten or assume it's not? Thanks Banjee ca 10:16, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- It appears to be an open letter, in which case it would likely be a public domain manifesto. However, I wonder whether it meets the inclusion guidelines' notability criteria. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:46, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know but I doubt it. I only stumbled across it because I was cleaning up some of the items transferred from Wikipedia. Article 133 is a clause in the assorted treaties establishing the European Union managing trade. I'm sure there were lots of protests. Some of the folks signing it get some hits on the web or Wikipedia as do the various organizations. Banjee ca 22:20, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

EB1911 Template
Hi, Pathoschild. I noticed that you had updated the Template:1911Dict-Entry. I tried to use it on 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Admission, but I couldn't set it up correctly to get the word Admission in the green header line. I get subst:SUBPAGENAME instead. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?? Thanks Banjee ca 00:25, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Banjee ca. should be substituted (), which places the standardised EB1911 with the appropriate fields filled out. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 12:34, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I followed your sample & can now make things look right!!! Banjee ca 13:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 13:36, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- I went in and fixed the style guide, and updated all the pages I could. However, the template is used at 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Abbey which calls on a template and has a lot of sub-pages. Fixing it was beyond my skill. I tried and broke it in new and wonderful ways. I don't mind doing the grunt work - but if you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Banjee ca 13:44, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
The templates on its subpages need to be replaced with the following code, updating the three parameters in EB1911 as needed. I've done the main page and the first six subpages (up to /York), and will do the rest when I finish catching up after my absence (unless you or someone else does it). The replacement code I'm using is:
// [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 14:27, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
That works!! I updated the rest of the subpages. Thanks for your help:) Banjee ca 02:51, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Help with Pywikipedia
Hi,
I downloaded the pywikipedia bot material (via CVS) along with Python, following the steps laid out at meta.wikimedia.org. When I tried running login.py, an error occurred. It was traced back to the file "xmlreader.py", line 293, which contained "yield entry". Command Prompt said there was a "syntax error:invalid syntax". Above, it said "Warning: 'yield' will become a reserved keyword in the future.
Also, when I tried running category.py, Command Prompt stopped at line 53. The line said "import re, sys, string, pickle, bz2". Command Prompt said "ImportError: No module named bz2." I don't know if this is due to the fact that I never logged in or something else.
In my user-config.py file, I had entered this:
mylang = 'en'
family = 'wikisource'
usernames['wikisource']['en'] = 'PoliticalBot'
console_encoding = 'utf-8'
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.--Politicaljunkie 21:56, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is most likely an error with the code, since you downloaded the developmental version. Try downloading a fresh copy from CVS, or downloading one of the stable packages. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 23:56, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- I downloaded the stable package from sourceforge.net, did the user-config.py file, and ran everything again. The same errors occurred, only the line numbers changed.--Politicaljunkie 22:13, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have no idea what's causing the problem, in that case. Try asking on the Pywikipedia mailing list (archives) or the bug tracking system. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 04:40, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Can you please take a look at this. I am pretty sure some of these works are copyvios. Danny 19:49, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- The copyright on Lovecraft works is relatively convoluted; most of them seem to be in the public domain either because of pre-1923 publication or failure to renew copyright. I'll go through them and tag them appropriately. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 23:56, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

The main task is adding the header template. Since the text is organised hierarchically, you should use relative links as described at m:Help:Links#Subpage_feature and recommended by the Style guide. See the code and example below (exampe adjusted so it'll work from this page). You can mostly copy and paste this to every page, adjusting only the chapter numbers in "section", "previous", and "next".

←Chapter 4 | Les Misérables (Volume 5, Book Ninth, Chapter 5) by Victor Hugo |
Chapter 6→ |
A secondary task is replacing spaces used as indentation with the wikimarkup indentation (":"). There are plans for a PHP script that will convert these (and other such formatting problems) automatically, but it is far from complete at the moment. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 21:20, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

ParserFunctions used for section transclusion
Hello Dovi. Regarding bug 5881, please see my demonstration of Zoran Obradovic's suggestion at User:Pathoschild/Sandbox2, which transcludes section #2 of User:Pathoschild/Sandbox. Note that there are several limitations to this: the contents of the page will be hidden on the page itself, since the parameter is not specified. This can be circumvented with some clever programming, but it's tedious and messy. Another limitation is that the pipe is used as a seperator in the ParserFunctions, so any pipe in the page will have to be escape with . For more information on ParserFunctions, see m:ParserFunctions. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:10, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your example, explanation, and link to further information. All of that is valuable to me, especially since I'm weak on the technical side.
- One small favor: If you don't mind, please explain what you know at bug 5881. Thanks! Dovi 16:23, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've posted a comment to the discussion. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:43, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. One last small question: When you clearly stated the idea in code terms, you wrote that sections might be marked off something like this:
- [...text...]
- Just to make sure I understand correctly: When calling up a section, it would be done like this:
-
- Am I correct? Also, how sound does the whole concept sound to you, especially if, as per Brion's concern, it is limited to sequential passages? Dovi 10:28, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- The text would probably be called up with or, as you said, . I'm rather neutral on the question; I can sortof see the applications, but I'm not engaged in the issue either way. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 16:28, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Deletion of United Nations works after 1 March 1989
Due to Wikimedia Foundation's requirement that results in the copyright policy prohibiting non-commercial licenses, UN works published after 1 March 1989 are copyrighted for 95 years since publication by default and Template:UNCopyright with non-commercial license is GFDL-incompactible here, so unless available at the US Government Websites (suffixed .gov) without additional copyright restrictions, they have to be deleted. I hereby tell you this as I see your past edits to them to let you know what I am doing. I have sent notices to other involved contributors as well.--Jusjih 14:03, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Quote: Welcome to Wikisource, the free library that anyone can edit.
"That anyone can edit" might encourage new contributors to reword texts, when they should only be formatting, proofreading, ...
However, I am not sure if any of these wording would be better:
- Welcome to Wikisource, the free library that anyone can proofread and expand.
- Welcome to Wikisource, the free library that anyone can maintain.
- Welcome to Wikisource, the free library to which anyone can contribute.
Maybe it should also have a link to Help:Introduction, the page with more explanation on how anyone contributes to Wikisource. --Kernigh 04:11, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Intro paragraph
How about . . .
Wikisource is an online library of free content publications which conform to the inclusion policy and are collected by volunter contributors. See the help pages for information on getting started and the community portal for ways you can contribute. Feel free to ask questions at the community discussion page or experiment in the sandbox.

OK how about that. My main concern is that we are send new readers off-site in the first paragraph. Look at the recent anon changes to Wikisource:About to see evidences that this is a problem for people not used to the wiki's. That page needs to be fixed as well. We should make a list maybe?--BirgitteSB 14:13, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Good point. The last thing we want is to send a new arrival off-site to read some stuff; they might not come back. I don't want to duplicate Wikipedia, but I think we should have some of those pages here (like a page all on the public domain--why don't we have that here?! It's one of our most important concepts!). Making a list of things we need to add/change/etc. would be very beneficial, especially if we want it to be done by Wikimania.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:22, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- That looks better, although I think the link to the inclusion policy should be a little more prominent. How about "Wikisource is an online library of free content publications (see the inclusion policy) collected and maintained by the community." // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 15:18, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes I like that.--BirgitteSB 16:03, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
