Centralnotice WMES Antarctica 2018

Sabbut (talk) 10:02, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Perfecto. ;) Sabbut (talk) 10:57, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Just wanted to say thank you.

Hi there, I just wanted to say thank you for helping and guiding me through updating plugins to use extension registration. I've learnt a lot in the process. Thank you! Gabrielchihonglee (talk) 00:25, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Gabrielchihonglee. Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad I could be of any help. Regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:05, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

How to update Wikimania2017 ?

hello, I am translating Wikimania2018, and found updating Wikimania2017 in ja will be helpful for the applicants for Grants. Are you aware who handles the editing rights, perhaps? Regards, --Omotecho (talk) 13:30, 8 January 2018 (UTC) sorry forgot to sign

Hello Omotecho. Wikimania2017 site has been closed and cannot be editted anymore. Nobody, except stewards, can edit the site. But you can translate on Wikimania2018 I think. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:00, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
@MarcoAurelio:, thank you for replying. I am on Wikimania2018 translation, and that is fine about Wikimania2017. Anyhow, pardon me to put extra unintended sentences on your user page. Oh my... I hastely deleted but forgot signature, too. Wish you’d forgive me. Cheers, —Omotecho (talk) 15:56, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
Nothing to pardon, It's all okay. Regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:13, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

CheckUser request

Hello MarcoAurelio, I don't know whom I could call on, I hope you'll be able to give me an answer. It's 3 days since I reported a very likely cross-wiki vandal, using proxies and socks, and asked for a check to verify if I'm right or not. I've written both here and here, but nobody has answered yet. Maybe the fact that I'm an IP user (even if I've also registered a new account anyway) is the cause of such an indifference, but the poblem I've reported is real, and meanwhile the vandal has been going on with his edits behind proxies and sockpuppets... And there's also a small possibility that the sockmaster is an old registered Italian user who made similar or identical edits in the same pages in the past. What do you suggest me to do? May you check it yourself, since you're a checkuser, or at least may you tell the right person about this problem yourself, so that he takes care of it? Let me know, please, and thank you in advance. 151.64.165.134 13:41, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

-revi is right. We ain't permitted to link accounts to IP addresses except very exceptional circumstances which don't appear to be the case here. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 14:51, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Mmm, let's say it's ok. Then it's possible al least to link different IPs to each others, right? Since the accounts are just 2 and the wikis where they're editing are just 3, could we remove them from the check and focus on the IPs which are at the moment 22 editing in 16 wikis? Maybe I'll make a 2 single requests for the suspected socks in 2 of the 3 interested wikis, as proxies are involved and in some wikis some ranges have already been blocked. 151.64.189.174 15:15, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

T143886

Hello Marco, wish you in good health. Before few days I think that really we need (Rollback) permission on Arabic projects (wikibooks + wikiversity), so I saw Dereckson comment here but I don't understand it very much! I knew it's a small projects but present of Rollback permission is important to fight vandalism that happened heavily there! so what it you opinion? to open a new task or community discussion then open it on phab.? Thanks --Alaa :)..! 12:25, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello. phabricator:T143886 is about enabling flagged revisions on ar.wikinews. If you want to create a rollback usergroup there you should open a discussion on ar.wikinews, get consensus in a valid form governed by local policy and then open a new Phabricator ticket requesting the creation of said group. See SITECONFIG for more information and please let me know if you still have doubts and questions. Best regards. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 18:12, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank Marco, I'll do --Alaa :)..! 23:23, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

I refer to edits by Rndhnr, IP 60.152.122.245  HistoriedeFrance who left a message in my talk page. They (probably one and the same) insist on adding a false title-holder in the article Duke of Gandía. Have done this in the following wikis: Russian; French; Italian; Spanish; and, English. In the Spanish and English wikis I added source from the Spanish Ministry of Justice on the new titleholder as of Sept. 2016 following the death of the previous titleholder. All titles, new, inherited, etc. must be published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (Spanish State Gazette) by the Ministry of Justice. The above-mentioned Ips and users keep removing the actual and referenced titleholder and adding someone who does not hold that title without providing any proof whatsoever. Don't know what I can do to prevent them from messing with other wikis other than this one and the Spanish one because I don't speak those languages. They should be blocked or, at least warned, that they cannot add false, unreferenced information. This happens often when it comes to nobility titles. Gracias y saludos, Maragm (talk) 11:37, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

Gracias y saludos, --Maragm (talk) 12:20, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
@Maragm: Sí, el anterior texto me parece correcto. Un saludo, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 12:33, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Ok, gracias. Ahora lo haré. --Maragm (talk) 12:49, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Sobre cambiar el nombre de usuario

Hola.

—MarcoAurelio (talk) 21:02, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
@Ks-M9:, @MarcoAurelio: To change a user name on wikis, please see Steward requests/Username changes. To change a user name on Phabricator, please file a task in Phabricator in the project Phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/edit/form/1/?projects=Phabricator - Thanks! --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 22:25, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks AKlapper, then I'll request the change in phabricator at the link above, but first in the wikis. And I know about the SRUC page.
--Ks-M9 [disc.] 00:03, 27 January 2018 (UTC).
En efecto. Ya hay ticket en Phabricator. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 13:21, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Why did you ban me in September

Hello, I just noticed that you banned my account Special:CentralAuth/Landfill_baby from all MediaWiki sites back in September, when all I had done was mention that the crab species en:Talk:Gecarcinus quadratus was featured on the cover of the album en:Talk:The Fat of the Land on both of their talk pages, and I was just wondering why this was considered vandalism, and if so, why my edits weren't reverted. I think either you misunderstood what I said, or I there's a rule somewhere against saying the same thing in 2 separate talk pages. Either way, banning me from all MediaWiki sites indefinitely seems a little bit harsh. I'm just honestly unsure what I did that was bad enough to get that level of punishment. Sorry if this seems rude, but it is a little bit annoying, and I honestly don't know what I did wrong. 2A02:C7F:7249:5E00:95D5:BF06:10DB:484B 20:04, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Dear @Landfill baby: I'm sorry for the mistake. I've reviewed your case and the most probable explanation is that I mistakenly added your account to a batch of other accounts to globally lock for vandalism or spam. I have therefore unblocked you. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:29, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, and again, sorry if I seemed rude, and I understand how easy it must be to make a mistake when you have that much to deal with. Landfill baby (talk) 20:56, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
No need to be sorry. You didn't seemed rude and I made a mistake. Apologies. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:59, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
