In order to reach out to the communities in their native language, we would like to ask for your help to translate a few pages. In addition to the one linked above, there are two short pages: We have done our best to prepare the pages to minimize the work for translators, and if you notice anything else we could do to make translation easier, please do let us know. Hello Jim Carter,

The Wikimedia Foundation is beginning a new initiative called Community Capacity Development. In it, we have conducted some research about community capacities, and documented what we've learned in these pages we are now inviting you to consider translating.

We hope these pages can serve as a basis for very concrete conversation between WMF and specific communities about possible projects to build specific capacities in interested communities. The work is to be based on interest and mutual agreement, not on top-down dictates from WMF. That's why it's important these documents -- this page and the six sub-pages mentioned in the navigation bar at its top -- reach the different communities in their own language.

Thank you very much for your consideration, and please let me know if anything is unclear.

Application acknowledgement

Thanks for showing interest to participate in the Global Congress on Intellectual Property and the Public Interest event. This message is to acknowledge receipt of your application. We'll inform you if you are selected. Regards. --TitoDutta 02:40, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Selection process

A week or so ago, we informed you that we received your application. Now, let us tell you about the selection procedure. We want the communities to select their representatives. We have posted on your Wikipedia's India noticebord and asked to comment on your application. Though we understand it is quite difficult to assess one’s contribution on the basis of endorsements only, it is impossible on our end to select one from your community as a representative without your consent. --TitoDutta 00:47, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

@Titodutta: I've no problem but what happens if neither of us gets any endorsement? I mean what if the community ignores it altogether? Cheers! Jim Carter (talk) 09:29, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

- This is the part of a series of community consultation pages. The WMF Community Advocacy team has put together a list at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/2016_Strategy/Translations. We're hoping to launch the consultation on January 18th. Realizing getting all translations in place before the launch of the consultation may not be possible (and that people will likely help with translations after the launch), I'd be really grateful for any assistance especially that you can give in translating the templates at that Meta page link, like this one. It'll probably be harder for casual translators to help out with those!

- Text should be stable at this point. I've just made what I hope will be the last modification to those pages!

- Thank you for all you do, and I hope you will not only assist in translation (if you are able) but also take part in the consultation. Your input will be very welcome.

- Questions or concerns? Please let me know at mdennis@wikimedia.org. Thanks! Maggie

This will affect ALL the WMF wikis, not just Wikipedia. I will send this message to hundreds of wikis before this event, and I hope that your languages will be included.

Plagiarism detection

Hi! You voted for improving plagiarism detection as an important suggestions in the community wishlist survey last year. I'm pinging people who showed interest in that task to tell them we have some suggestions for how things could look, if you'd like to glance at them and give us some feedback. They're available here: phab:T120435#2266283. It's easiest if comments are left in Phabricator, since that's where much of the development is happening, but they can be left on Meta too, of course. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 17:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi translators, this is a Central Notice inviting idea creators and reviewers to participate in the Inspire Campaign. Our theme for this campaign is on addressing harassment, and it is important we be able to reach as many communities as possible, as this is a general issue affecting contributors in many projects. I would also appreciate your help translating some of the other page content related to the campaign, which I've organized here: In particular, the FAQ, main page, and Mass message should take priority. Please contact me on my talk page if you have any questions or comments. Thank you again for your hard work and dedication. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk)
