BoT election identification

Hi James, I saw in the wiki notices that you sent me an email concerning my identification, presumably concerning the upcoming BoT election. I have some trouble accessing my email, and I see that the deadline is coming.

I thought that, having been identified once is sufficient? You testified in 2015 that I am identified with the Foundation, see here: Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/Board_elections/2015/Candidates. Is that not sufficient? Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 19:27, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

@Pgallert: Hi Peter, it was indeed concerning identification. Because the old identifications were deleted (as normal since they weren't needed) we're asking everyone to identify including past candidates (as well as the two incumbents running). If you are having difficulty accessing your email I'm happy to try and find an option to make sure we can get it to work. Jalexander--WMF 19:35, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi James, my Internet access is very slow right now, and it is night time here in Namibia. I think I'll manage to download a passport copy and mail it to the address you used (wiki-at-wikimedia-dot-org). Would that be sufficient? Thanks --Pgallert (talk) 19:48, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
@Pgallert: That will but send it to either my personal work address (jalexander@wikimedia.org) or the secure info address (secure-info@wikimedia.org). Wiki@ is a send only one (used for when you send through Special:EmailUser). Thanks! Sorry for the trouble. Jalexander--WMF 19:51, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Done to both addresses. I'll be online (or what you can call online with 300 bps :-/ ) for about one more hour. I would be grateful if you could ping me upon reception of the email. Thanks, and sorry for the extra trouble, Pgallert (talk) 20:04, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
  Done thanks :) Jalexander--WMF 20:51, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Continued abuse

Hi Jalexander,

You have globally blocked the following user: ND Ascendant (talk · contribs), and it looks like they've shown up on another different account, which is Non Disclosure (talk · contribs). Would you mind blocking this account, too. Thank you. 89.216.140.149 05:28, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

Weird block reason

Probable backlog on Access to nonpublic information policy noticeboard

I think I followed all the steps correctly at Legal pad to register the confidentiality agreement but yet do not find my name at Access to nonpublic information policy/Noticeboard --after a fortnight. Is there any sort of backlog etc? Or the processing time is just too long?Cheers!Ping while replying, am mostly active at en.wikiWinged Blades of Godric (talk) 12:26, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Confidentiality agreement

Hello, hope you well. Please can you talk a look here? I saw this page as MarcoAurelio said, and I found that I singed both agreements, i.e:

  • L32 OTRS Users Confidentiality Agreement - Nonpublic Information (English): Signed on Jan 10 2017
  • L4 General Confidentiality Agreement - Nonpublic Information (English): Signed on Mar 23 2017

But my name not appear on the identification noticeboard!

Thanks --Alaa :)..! 10:26, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

@علاء: Thanks! I'm not entirely sure why you were missed when you signed in March.. I added the people both before and after you so unless there was an issue you've since corrected (for example it didn't show your account connected but it now is :) ) I probably just messed up. You're added now and should be good!. Jalexander--WMF 03:01, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

INeverCry

Hi James,

It has been confirmed overnight that INeverCry has been socking as Daphne Lantier (English Wikipedia CU page) on various projects. The Daphne Lantier account is currently in the process of having the sysop permission on Commons removed, but Daphne also gained access to OTRS (for a period of three days, self-requesting removal) in May. I'm clearly not happy that a sock account can gain access to OTRS and hope you'll work to further refine what can be done there, given non public data is involved, but because of the level of deception involved (passing RfA on Commons, gaining access to OTRS and now threatening that they have further accounts which to use) I would like to know if an WMF Office Ban would be possible for INeverCry. Nick (talk) 11:11, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

I'm needing to chase this up, we now have INeverCry socking and being much more hostile and abusive. This has been confirmed at Commons and English Wikipedia (this new account constitutes block evasion on both projects right now). English Wikipedia and Commons (self identification). Thanks. Nick (talk) 22:42, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
Responding here for the record and the talk page stalkers even though we've talked a couple times on IRC about this (and you've already done what I recommended) hence no ping :). For the OTRS question I'd point you to the OTRS administrators who can evaluate any need for change in the process and reach out to myself or other members of staff if they want help there. They're the ones who operate the process however so should be the ones taking the lead on it. For the Global Ban request sending an email with links and documentation (such as you've already done after we talked, thanks) is the best way to start the process going. It allows us to start the case file and keep a better internal record of investigations. I can, however, confirm that we've opened an investigation upon separate request and are adding your information into it. Jalexander--WMF 21:42, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
@Jalexander-WMF: James, a global ban for me? That would be overkill and unfair. I've not released any OTRS or CU info, and I have none to release. I never looked at an actual OTRS ticket with INC or Daphne. I only had like 4 days of access with both accounts put together. I've done some vandalism, but nothing that could come close to being called a history of cross-wiki abuse. There are much worse people who are still active, true LTAs like Wikinger, JarlaxleArtemis/Grawp, Meepsheep, and David Beals. You and I have talked many times over the past few years, and I know you can't think me worthy of a WMF ban. I don't even intend to do any more vandal edits, and haven't for a while. As for Nick, he says all kinds of nasty things about people at Commons, just as Colin does. The level of insensitivity and even malice that these two show to people is amazing to me. I would also point out that Nick has done nothing that I've seen to impede Russavia from socking Commons for the last three years. How many socks did I report to you and Kalli? Hundreds. But if a ban comes down, I won't take it personally. You and Kalli have always been great to me, and I wish you the best. I would also note that my statement about using socks was not meant as a threat; I would be surprised if anyone believed I would just go away. Nobody who knows me well at least. Take care. lNeverCry 21:32, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Why exactly are you comparing yourself to Russavia? He never abused his admin rights, he never created false accounts which he used to meatpuppet or even sockpuppet back when he was active or nominated his "own sock" for adminship, He never had access to CU or identified falsely to the WMF, most people who know him even know his real name. You identified not once, but twice with a false identity (maybe for both accounts) which is a clear ToU violation. Just look up List of globally banned users, users have been banned for much less, a few of those were upstanding editors on the English Wikipedia, a few admins too. Your deceit level is around the same level as Poetlister. The reason why most people have opposed your RfC is because they do not understand how this system works or else they would know that it doesn't matter if you edit just one wiki or 10 wikis, a Global ban can and will be given if the ToU is violated..I'm pretty sure atleast 10 of those 22 globally banned accounts predominantly edited one wiki.--Stemoc 22:17, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
@Stemoc: Where do you get this crazy disinformation from? Before I became a checkuser I emailed a photo of my real ID directly to Philippe (WMF). He checked my ID and I was made a CU. I then became an OTRS member as INeverCry under my real name. Only my last ID as Daphne was a false name, and I was only an OTRS member for 3 days. I handled 0 tickets. You can verify that with Krd or any of the OTRS admins. They can tell you that all I ever did on OTRS wiki was to mark a couple spam emails as spam. As for Russavia, were you able to run CU on his sock accounts and see the disgusting personal attacks, some graphically homophobic, that he made in his user agent strings about Philippe (WMF)? James saw them. I've also seen him attack several people on Commons via IP. As an admin he wheel-warred me on a block of a cross-wiki sockmaster that had given me much grief. He had other issues with Trijnstel and Herbythyme over what he said, if I remember right, was a possible abuse of CU by either Trijnstel or Herby. Please dial back your personal hate of me and stop putting out false claims about me as you do above. Thank you. lNeverCry 23:41, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
INeverCry - for the record, the only reason I've asked for James to consider a WMF Office Ban is the deception concerning OTRS access (and tangential to that the abusive RfA request). I believe the OTRS system needs to maintain the highest levels of trust amongst its users if it is to function effectively in its role of managing permissions and copyright issues. I believe it is vital that James and the Wikimedia Foundation sends out the strongest possible message to members of our community (and to those outside it, who interact with it) that there is zero tolerance for people gaining access to confidential and sensitive information (and I apply that to OTRS access, checkuser permissions, oversight permissions and so forth) by such abusive means.
I believe if the Wikimedia Foundation doesn't ban you, they're sending out completely the wrong message when it comes to the Access to nonpublic information policy and the upholding of the provisions set out in it and the accompanying Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information, leaving the way open for any editor to gain access to OTRS using a sockpuppet without having to worry about global penalties. Nick (talk) 13:15, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
I just love the "I never abused any private date from OTRS/CU-speech" but perhaps INC has forgotten that he violated my privacy on at least three occasions by outing my first name. Natuur12 (talk) 23:16, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Well, INC at his best. Nothing but displaying himself as a victim, no apologies to anyone for anything, not for disclosure of private information, not for endless lies, not for mass vandalism orgies, not for Nazi swastika. And someday it will come again, that's for sure. --A.Savin (talk) 15:04, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
@Nick and Natuur12: If I had done something like placing OTRS ticket info on an outside site or inappropriately contacted anyone using the OTRS system, then I could see a WMF ban as reasonable. I had no bad intentions regarding OTRS, and didn't even use it (I had a total of maybe 2 hours that I accessed the OTRS wiki, and I handled no tickets). A WMF ban would be overkill. I also think my work with James and the WMF in fighting Russavia and reporting his socks should be considered. I don't plan to sock any more on any project. I think my indef block on Commons, which is the OTRS queue I had access to, is enough warning to others. I doubt I'll be allowed to edit on Commons for a long time to come if ever. As for the concern voiced by Natuur12, you know I respect and admire you. You're one of the best people I've met on Commons. My use of your first name was careless and stupid. I haven't used it since I saw you had hid an edit, and I'll certainly never repeat that or anything like it. Sometimes I can be a real idiot. I wish I were more stable and reasonable like you, I really do. I don't mean to blame my actions on mental health though. Maybe I just have the problem of being a complete asshole at times. lNeverCry 02:12, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Confidentiality agreement list

I'm a volunteer member of OTRS and I think I've signed the Confidentiality Agreements. Would you mind adding my username here? Thanks. --Mhhossein talk 13:27, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

@Mhhossein: It looks like you did indeed sign the OTRS agreement but this is a different agreement for the OTRS system. Your name should be on the OTRS identification list (On OTRS wiki) for that. The list here on meta is only for those who have signed the agreement for the purposes of non-OTRS work (such as Checkuser and Oversighter). So you're all set! Jalexander--WMF 21:53, 19 August 2017 (UTC)

I'm unfamiliar if I can be on Meta.

From what I can find global blocks don't apply to meta-wiki unless the privilege to edit here is also abused, is that correct? Does that mean that I could still make useful contributions here? By the way I was falsely accused of being a paid editor by Gary Ashkehytler from Primal Trek (Primaltrek) and honestly the accusation of being "a spammer" hurts more than anything else related to my block/lock, am I at least allowed to protest that accusation of bad faith? I really can't seem to find any policy or guideline relating to global locks other than that they exist.... 🙄 --2405:4800:1484:9937:987B:8124:7E28:1B6D 20:29, 18 August 2017 (UTC) (Donald Trung)

How "complementary" are Foundation bans?

Let’s say hypothetically that the community would start a Requests for comment/Global unban of Russavia, and the community would largely vote ❎ for the return of Russavia, would the Wikimedia Foundation then honour the community’s wish 🌠? or would it still force it's own Foundation ban? I’m just asking this out of curiosity. Note that you can just as well read 📖 this as Requests for comment/Global unban of Ktr101 or Requests for comment/Global unban of Reguyla (😍), it’s just that 99,99% of everyone in Wikimedia Commons loves Russavia and the global ban has proven to be very unpopular with even some administrators leave.

@Donald Trung: This have to open an discussions and approval by the majority users consensus in community. SA 13 Bro (talk) 11:22, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
@Donald Trung: Lol Don, you certainly know how to tell a good joke. James is not going to unblock Russavia or Reguyla and frankly he doesn't need to. Both are quit capable of ban evasion any time they want too. Both continue to edit whenever they want and both continue to monitor IRC and other aspects of Wiki life whenever they want. I'm certain they both would rather use their usernames, but both were railroaded out of the WMF projects to create an enemy to fight. Without enemies, the WMF cannot ask for more money to fight harassment, so they create it in order to continue the hostile environment they have created and fostered. James isn't going to unblock either of these 2 highly dedicated and high output contributors because as long as they are blocked, he can continue to generate work for himself and others through blocks, bans, threats and more. I have heard on several off wiki sites and IRC that someone has been Joe Jobbing Reguyla on and off wiki including his workplace (again from what I understand this is at least the 2nd time someone contacted his employer). Good luck though, because IMO if the WMF wants either Reguyla or Russavia to stop evading their bans, then that is in the WMF's power to do by removing the ban that neither of them (and many in the communities as well I might add) agree with or want.
