Hello Bencmq, a steward if it should be hidden from the global userlist or if the wiki has no local oversighters and an oversighter if the wiki has one and if it should only be hidden there. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 10:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Chinese translations of MediaWiki need continued attention edit

Hi Bencmq. I see that you have been doing some translating for the fundraiser. Thank you for that. I see that you are also a translator at translatewiki.net, but that you have not been that active recently. I thought I would just post a little reminder that we appreciate your past contributions a lot, and do need your continued effort on keeping the Simplified Chinese translations for MediaWiki/Wikimedia/Wikipedia current. We still need a lot of help on/translators for other languages spoken in China, so any help you can provide that is also highly appreciated. Thanks and hope to see you soon! Fundraising Translators edit

Hi Bencmq, my name is Deniz and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to act as a liaison between the Chinese community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort, we recognize that banner messages that perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences. I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project, translating messages into Chinese and suggesting messages that would appeal to Chinese readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. Please let me know if you'd be interested in helping with this project, and add your feedback to the proposed messages as well! I look forward to working with you during this year's fundraiser. --Dgultekin 22:30, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Interlinear Versions for Chinese Wikis edit

Hi, it's me again,

My proposal is not to merge Chinese scripts, languages and transliteration system. On the contrary what I want to say is, that one has to differenciate between:

  1. Script (hani, hant, hans
  2. language (zh, zh-yue, etc.)
  3. pronunciation (Transcription systems)

and that all these (three) informations MUST be given in a Chinese Wiki to qualify as an encyclopedia for all (not only for intellectual Chinese (maybe 10% of the Chinese), who know to read and write (and pronounce) Chinese already. For all the other Chinese and learners of Chinese Chinese Wikis are - at the moment - of not much use. If this is not changed, the outreach programs will not have much effect. It's just like making an "Ancient Egyptian Wiki with only the hieroglyphs without giving their pronunciation in their respective different Old Egyptian languages/dialects!--Dudy001 07:20, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

I don't really understand... I know very little about other wiki so I can't say for them, but is it really necessary for zh.wikipedia to adopt a pronunciation system? Like a phonemic transcription for English Wikipedia? --Bencmq 14:21, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Good luck... edit

Congratulations!

Based on the results of the vote, according to the percentage obtained, ensure that you have been elected as a steward. Hopefully you can carry out the mandate of the international community with the wise and prudent.

Personally I am very pleased and proud with the results you achieve. Let us work to advance the Wikimedia Foundation. Regards. Wagino 20100516 00:53, 7 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations and welcome new steward! edit

Get ready to be vandalized!

Welcome to the team. As you already know great access come with great responsibilities, so lets talk about some of the places you should have access but you may not have yet (yes, that means you need to ask someone). Being a new steward myself, I also do not know all of them or what I know might be wrong. This is just a personal congratulation message from me to you and the purpose is to introduce (yet again, yes!) with my damn good helping intention and irritating sense of humor!

You all have been added to steward list and chart here on Meta by me (please check if I have screwed myself there). You are eligible to make your intrusion to private IRC channels #wikimedia-checkuser and #wikimedia-privacy. You should have the access already, but if you do not have it yet please bother Barras or DerHexer for your bit (and aye, you should have a registered nickname with a cloak for that). You also have the right to have an account on some private wikis like steward wiki and checkuser wiki (to vandalize of course). Pardon me Your Majesty, but I have no damn idea about who to ask for access in these wikis, ask an existing steward instead. And last but not least, checkuser-l (yell at Mardetanha or Matanya for access) and stewards-l (pay Dungodung for the access) are two private mailing lists that you should have access to screw each other privately.

Thank you very much for being patient!
Pardon me in case you already know all of these!

Lets shut up and abuse our gumdrop buttons!

An open call from Tanvir the no0b stew!

Do not think you have been promoted yesterday, actually it is the correct standard time in Papeete! o.O

Because of my troublesome flash memory, I forgot to tell you that I have shoved you in StewardBot's brain, but not in its mouth so you might not get the ping, but it will remember you as a steward. To get the pings with !steward and @steward you have to pay Dungodung again (it is a shame I know)! — Tanvir | Talk ] 07:29, 7 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: edit

Hi Bencmq. Thanks for your words, but maybe it's better if I give up all projects. You can see also my activity and finally this (i.e my request), but I realize, that I will never become a global rollback because of my blocks on .it (one years ago). Then it's useless to continue collaborate with Wikipedia. This is the reason, why i would like the global block.--Frigotoni ...i'm here; 15:21, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia isn't about getting rights - there are many ways you can contribute. I can't say for the dispute there, but not getting a global rollback is not possible (or useless) to contribute to the project. If you need, just leave, take an indefinte wiki-break. You can always come back at any time. Now, a global lock will lock you out of the system and you cannot even log in to request for unlock should you wish to return one day. This may sounds uncomfortable but every one may act on impulse and may need some time to cool down. Take a break. Regards.--Bencmq 15:35, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

SUL request edit

Hi, I don't know you remember me or not (if not please take a look at here). As I wrote there, I thought az.wiki doesn't have any active 'crats. Anyway I wrote my request directly in the 'crats' talk page, it seems that one of them is fully inactive, an the other one doesn't attend to my message in his talk page (he's active and become online everyday but he didn't reply to me after many days and after that I re-wrote a new message in his page). Same problem is existed in Wikiversity, although an admin had wrote some useful info about my condition (and also the other requests on that page) for 'crats, but it seems there are no active 'crats there too (please see the above unanswered requests on that page too). Can you please tell me what should I do with them? Thanks a lot Mehran 15:54, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm not very sure about az.wiki. Maybe wait a few days and see if that bcrat gets the thing done? For enwikiversity, yes, apparently there is some back log. Can you try to poke some active bureaucrats there as well? It worked before. Regards --Bencmq 17:36, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK, I wait for a week (or even more, whatever you say). But one of the admins (Abd) had said that there is no active 'crats to do this job. ([3]) Thanks Mehran 18:43, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes I know, but poking them may help, see Steward_requests/SUL_requests#Problematic_bureaucrats_2 --Bencmq 22:34, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Change in translations edit

Hi, and thank you for your activity with fundraiser translations so far!! I have one small request to make: We had to change three of the appeals; the change is the same in all of them, and the replacement text is quite short, so I don't want to e-mail people just to fix that, and that's why I'm asking you instead. It would be great if you could do the following fixes in Simplified Chinese:

Since these are small changes you don't have to go through the cycle of having it proofread and everything, unless you are unsure about the translation. Thanks in advance. :-) Jon Harald Søby (WMF) 05:29, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dear Bencmq, thanks for dropping by. I'm kinda new and not sure how to protect the logo file. Please advise how. Plus, I would like to change the icon appeared next to the URL of the site. Is it allowed in Wikipedia? edit

To keep in the pages of wiki Administrator's personnel thesis? at http://sd.wikipedia.org ? Other problem is We call Computer as same in English, but admin forcibly used his word Ganpukar of Computer. I have proof that thousands of published books called it Computer not Ganpukar. If some one oppose him he started abusive language. That is the reason sd.wikipedia.org never got attraction to Sindhi community. Plz check record there. Other things are he locked CSS due to that on the same site there are lot of font styles appeared there. He is not able to set commonCSS or Monocss. We are in trouble to work in our local Sindhi language. I don't know where to say for this problem. Record history says all the situation there. I appeal plz warn him to follow en.wikipedia.org rules, other wise he will continue use his personnel details and personnel promoted articles there. Dear I am sorry If u r not right person to say all about this, Plz suggest me where I can raise this issue. My sd.wikipedia.org ID is same. All CU results were from a technical point of view. As a steward I can only provide information based on technical data. Local administrators should check the suspected accounts before blocking or whatever. Editing pattern is the most important evidence in determining sockpuppet abuse. A barnstar for you! edit

This barnstar is given to you for your help with the 2011 fundraiser translation.

Hi! I just want to thank you and give you this barnstar for your help with the translation of the 2011 fundraiser! The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations. We couldn't have done either one without the help we got from you and other translators. If you are interested, we made a report, which has some statistics about the translations.

And: I have one more request, and that is that you take this survey. You may have got an e-mail about it, and if you did, please ignore this. But if you didn't it would be great if you would take this survey too, so we can learn to improve the translation experience.

Again, thanks for your help with translations – you're awesome! Jon Harald Søby (WMF) 13:26, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bencmq, Faofficer is talking about the Persian Wikisource rather than Wiktionary. let me explain what happened. An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our budget is smaller than Commons)

Bencmq/archive, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests for deletion, but also Talk:Spam blacklist and Talk:Interwiki map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.

Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators. -- Mentifisto 14:12, 6 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
