A suggestion edit

Hello! I am always glad to participate in the Asian Month contests. And it would be even better to hold similar American, African or Oceanian edit-a-thons.

By the way, some wikis have already held contests such as Mois américain and Mois américain. -- НСНУ (talk) 15:56, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Postcards questions edit

Hi! Nobody from my country received any physical postcards for last year's contest, and I don't think we can blame that all on the postal systems, since parcels ordered from Asia all arrive. Now that the 2020 contest is beginning, people rightly ask why they should give their postal addresses if you cannot guarantee the postcards. What happened to the personal data submitted last year, for example, how was it handled? I need to answer these questions before launching the event this year. Thank you in advance. Teemeah (talk) 07:40, 3 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Teemeah: Hi. I check the postal system regulation, due to the pandemic, Taiwan cannot send anything through international postal systems to your country at this moment. This table for the Taiwanese postal system website shows that Taiwan can only deliver stuffs through postal systems to 24 countries all over the world.[1] I contact Wikimedia Taiwan everyday asking the update of the postcard delivery, we all feel sad and frustrated that most of international postal system (Asia to Europe) still not avaible at this moment. Wikimedia Taiwan erased all participants' personal information after they make sure all the postcards were done (with content and recipient's address). WAM only keep part of participants' information (user name and email) for further tracking e.g: your postcard be sent back to Taiwan and shown deliver fail, addresses information have been removed since our partner reported to us all the postcard ready. As for the participants who have received the paper postcards, we also erased their data immediately. I hope these answer your questions. I am so sorry that our partners' government limitation lead to this inconvenient. Li-Yun Lin (talk) 15:36, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the answer. Teemeah (talk) 16:31, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

2020 vs 2019 comparison edit

Are there significant differences? There will be digital postcards this year; anything else? -- Ата (talk) 10:38, 3 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Ата: Hi. WAM itself won't change a lot, I promise to the first generation leader that I will keep WAM as a Asain content-orientation event. You can join the thematic contests a.k.a sub-contests, they are very different from year to year. There will be digital postcards and certification (for organizers and ambassador) this year, digital form will be a standard reward form since this year. The rewards for the top 15 participants are different. If you have any further question feel free to ping me. I will answer you asap. Li-Yun Lin (talk) 15:12, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Li-Yun Lin Hello, what does mean "The rewards for the top 15 participants are different"? What is different between the reward for the 15th and for the 16th participant? I think that it is important to know for organisers and participants and it should be announced at the page of WAM 2020 here at Meta. Why did you decide that postcards and certifications will be only digital? I think this should be also announced at the page of WAM 2020. Patriccck (talk) 13:15, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@User talk:Patriccck Hi. I never said that the postcards and certifications will be only digital, my meaning is, since this year, there will be both digital and paper ones. None of us knows when will the pandemic end and we believe the rewards are important to participants. The top 15 participants of the year will have an extra gift. Every year we prepare different gifts, if you are the top 15 contributors for more than two years you won't receive the same gifts. I will add this information on meta. Best, Li-Yun Lin (talk) 18:12, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Li-Yun Lin Thanks so much for the information, I misunderstood you. Have a nice day. --Patriccck (talk) 18:13, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Forum for suggestions? edit

Hello, is there a discussion forum where participants can make general suggestions for changes / improvements for future Asian Months? --Furfur (talk) 14:31, 3 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Furfur: Hi. It's a good idea. There are a lot of things lost during the transfer of previous WAM leaders. I will contact them and ask forum related questions. If we don't have one, we will create one ASAP. Li-Yun Lin (talk) 15:00, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Only Wikipedia? edit

Is this edithaton limited to Wikipedias? I think that there are possibilities to extend it also to other wiki-projects (like Wikivoyage or Wikinews). --Gce (talk) 23:44, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Gce:There is no limitation. If there are some organizers who are willing to hold the events on other Wiki-projects we are highly welcome.Li-Yun Lin (talk) 14:56, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
So far I created the edithaton page for Wikivoyage in Italian. --Gce (talk) 13:43, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Requesting for a fountain tool page for my home wiki edit

I am an organizer for the WAM in Tagalog Wikipedia. I have a question. How do you request a fountain tool page for a home wiki? It seems that the requests stated in here are for the whole WAM event and not for a specific language. I am hesitant to request there because it is a bit confusing for me. Anyone from the WAM organizers can answer this but I'm pinging @Ле Лой: for an answer as well. Thanks in advance. --Jojit (talk) 02:18, 22 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

The same for me, I tried to create via Fountain a page for Wikivoyage in Italian but I don't know if I really created it or not. --Gce (talk) 14:23, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Good news, I was able to create a fountain tool page. Thanks to the WAM International team for pointing me to this page. That guide helped me and it may help you too. Although, the tool did not initially work on Firefox. So, I switched browser and use Google Chrome and everything works fine. --Jojit (talk) 08:53, 28 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can Wikivoyage participate without Fountain tool? edit

In this discussion (in Italian) emerged that Fountain tool is not adeguate for word counting on Wikivoyage because most of the text on this project is contained in templates (not only infoboxes but the most on listings), so Andyrom75, admin of it.wikivoyage, asks if there's the possibility only for it.wikivoyage to participate to the edithaton without using Fountain and counting the words with an alternative method. --Gce (talk) 21:57, 28 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

For more details see User_talk:Ле_Лой#Word counting. --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:48, 29 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Gce Hello, tool can turn off couting the words, if you want. Patriccck (talk) 21:52, 29 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Gce Hi, some of our partners used dashboard before (for subcontest). If you want WAM international team send postcards to the qualified participants of your event, you have to send the qualified participant list with the dashboard link (if you choose it) before the middle of January 2021. Li-Yun Lin (talk) 07:08, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Patriccck, Li-Yun Lin, ok, we'll turn off the word count limitation. Can we count the word, for example, with MS Word, and certified them in this way to respect the requested 300 word rule?
"dashboard" is a specific tool or a custom HTML table? In the first case please let us know where we can find, in the second case let us know where we have to send (email?) --Andyrom75 (talk) 07:45, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 If you want, I can create editathon on Fountain when you could add a number of words manually (yes/no). Do you want? Patriccck (talk) 10:05, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Patriccck, adding the word count manually would be good, so that we can count externally. Note that in "wam20" I've just removed the word count check. --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:12, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 OK, please add me using this link to jury member and I will try add it. Then you will delete me from jury. Patriccck (talk) 10:16, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Patriccck, I'm not able to select you. I suppose is because you haven't performed any change on voy:it:. Could you do some? Maybe creating your user page or something like that. --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:23, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 If you cannot add me, try this settings in Marks. To the comments you will able to write number of words. Patriccck (talk) 10:36, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Patriccck, now that you did some changes on it:voy I was able to add you :-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:37, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 I stil cannot make any change, it is strange (error 403). So please try to add settings per the picture. When there will be some articles, you will able to add comments (in Czech komentář) and you will able to add 255 symbols to any article (for example issues of the articles and number of words, if is lower then 300). See [1] and [2]. Do you understand me? Patriccck (talk) 10:46, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
And please turn on Consensual vote in General. :-) Patriccck (talk) 10:47, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Btw. text in the picture is not probably correct, I used Google Translate. Patriccck (talk) 10:38, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Patriccck, I've turned on Consensual vote and I've created the new radio button (check & confirm). I don't understand where add the comment on the actual word count. --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:54, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 Perfect, comment will by avabile after adding articles. Only please set in radio button "Si" of radio group "L'articolo contiene il numero di parole richiesto?" value 0, it is only informational. Patriccck (talk) 11:02, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Patriccck, ok for the comment, but I haven't understood your last point. Could you explain it again? --Andyrom75 (talk) 11:13, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 Do you think "Only please set in radio button "Si" of radio group "L'articolo contiene il numero di parole richiesto?" value 0, it is only informational."? Patriccck (talk) 11:24, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Mmm... let me explain differently.
In the bottom of the config page I see: Questo articolo è accettabile?: Si No L'articolo contiene il numero di parole richiesto?: Si No
If I select both "Sì" I get 2 (+1 Accettato, +1 Accettato)
If I select only one "Sì" I get (for example) 1 (Non accettato, +1 Accettato)
So to accept completely an article I should get "2". If I get "1" or "0" the article is rejected.
That said, I suppose that "Value 0" is fine.
Is correct my interpretation? --Andyrom75 (talk) 11:33, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 I think that it should be set like: 1 point = 1 article, 4 points = postcard. 2nd "Si" should have 0 point (value) becouse of informational character. Do you understand me? Patriccck (talk) 11:58, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ahhhh! Now I got you :-)
So, setting the second "Sì" to 0 the second question will be just and internal note, and any approved article (first "Sì") will have 1 point.
I've done, please check (I've also removed you from the jury). --Andyrom75 (talk) 12:07, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Andyrom75 Perfect! :-) Now it looks great. I can help you if you will want, just ping me. I have got one tip, you can create template for talk pages of added article, see this settings (Template). Template at cswiki looks like this. All articles are catogorized in this category. Then I can view number of all aritcles at contest page (right now 0 článků, it means 0 articles). Do you undrestand? Patriccck (talk) 21:51, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I understand it, but I'm not a fan of "talk banner". We'll monitor them in voy:it:Wikivoyage:Spedizione_WAM20, just like we are doing in the current "expedition". --Andyrom75 (talk) 22:37, 31 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Gce,@Andyrom75 May I know which tool you choose in the end? If you choose fountain WAM team will be able to check the data. If you choose dashboard, you can sent the final outcomes to info@asianmonth.wiki. Good luck! Li-Yun Lin (talk) 10:32, 1 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Internally we'll use this dashboard, but for WAM team we'll resume the result on fountain. --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:51, 1 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thai wikipedia edit

Hello, refer to this discussion on Thai wikipedia.

It seems that the word count tool is currently unable to respond to the word count in Thai as in previous years.

Can you repair the tool? --B20180 (talk) 00:41, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can't submit articles from itwiki and itvoyage edit

We're having some problems while submitting articles from italian Wikipedia and italian Wikivoyage: the articles are eligible (created in Nov 2020, 3k+ kB, 300+ words) but Fountain says that the article was created outside the time range required. On itwiki, we suspect that this may be caused for a different date format: itwiki uses a DD-MM-YYYY format, while Fountain tool uses the MM-DD-YYYY format. (ping to Ле Лой since looks like a Fountain related issue)--Mannivu · 17:54, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

On it.wikivoyage there isn't this problem, users Teseo, Codas and Andyrom75 did submit correctly the articles, i saw the problem only on it.wikipedia (I tried to submit Bangladesh Television but I couldn't proceed further because of the date seen as wrong). --Gce (talk) 13:10, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Mannivu, could you please provide an example of an article that Fountain doesn't accept? Le Loy 21:58, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
See for example it:Bonifica di Central e Wan Chai or the page provided by Gce, it:Bangladesh Television. Mannivu · 22:05, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Mannivu, I fixed it. The editathon was mistakenly created with a rule allowing only articles created in October. Le Loy 23:19, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I tried to submit my article and it was correctly accepted. Thank you for the fix Le Loy --Postcrosser (talk) 01:20, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Extra 5 hour for WAM 2020 edit

Dear participants and organizers,

I received emails and messages reporting that the Fountain didn't work for around 5 hours. We have restarted the system and the fountain tool should be able to work again. I know some participants prefer to submit articles in the last few hours, so I decide to give WAM 2020 extra 5 hours (we will modify the deadline for you all) to let the participants from different time zones have the last chance to submit the articles before system close. I am so sorry for this inconvenience.

Send my postcard to another participant edit

I would like to ask to send a postcard to user:Rina.sl, who could have qualified for a postcard if they had a chance to improve their articles before the contest ended. Supporting this user seems right to me, and I already filled in a form with my "no postcard" answer. I'll ask the user to fill in the form with their address, and I hope WAM team will accept it.
By the way, the form doesn't ask general questions about WAM if user selected "no postcard". I'm not sure this was intended   -- Ата (talk) 06:52, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
