Online meeting link?

edit

Someone on the etherpad wonders if there is a URL for the online meeting? EllenCT (talk) 03:49, 5 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

It worked fine for most of us last time (but not for everyone). Someone mentioned Zoom in the past, but no one offered to set it up last meeting, so I went with Jitsi again. I'll go with that again unless someone can setup a meeting in Zoom. Ainali (talk) 21:51, 5 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Ainali: I am told that Bluejeans is not blocked by China. EllenCT (talk) 01:40, 6 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Do you have a subscription that we can use? (And do we have users in China that want to join our meeting? I believe the people having trouble last time was in India and Italy.) Ainali (talk) 20:44, 6 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I do not. I thought it was free, sorry. As far as I know there are no Chinese participants. I doubt ISPs in India or Italy do anything intentional to Jitsi; I would guess issues are probably associated with the individual connections. EllenCT (talk) 16:45, 7 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I think we can try with zoom, as in my place in India, I have less or no issues with it so far. Rajeeb (talk) 10:24, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Presenter

edit

Should we add in brackets for each point on the agenda who will be presenting it? I think that is a good idea because it will make at least someone to be mentally prepared to say something about the subject? And then we could, just before the meeting starts, clear out points that no one feels like talking about? Ainali (talk) 08:34, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Ainali: I do agree with you. Rajeeb (talk) 10:22, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ok, to save us time during the actual meeting, I'll make sure to remove all unclaimed points an hour before the meeting. Any new ones added after that must should come with a name when adding them. Possibly we could have a latest time for adding new points to the agenda as well, but let's wait with that until we have discussed that part more. Ainali (talk) 10:46, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

12 hours out, and I can't get out of a conflicting schedule commitment. I really wanted to talk about the articles improvement drive (I have a lengthy reply from Morningstar forwarded to me just today that I haven't gone thought yet) and the outreach ideas, so I am going to mark them with my request to follow up those with on-wiki discussion. Rythmic cadence

edit

We would like us to get started with regular meetings, but to also facilitate more people having a chance to attend we could have two meeting times that alternate. That way, even if someone already has commitments at one time, there might be a chance they can participate at another time. Please fill in your preferences in the table below.

  • + means you prefer it
  • 0 means it is not preferred but acceptable
  • - means you don't want that time

This has been up for three months so I am closing this now. Let's go with 1st Sunday of the month 18.00 UTC (2 plusses, 2 zeros) and 3rd Saturday 24.00 UTC (3 plusses, 1 minus), which seem two give every participant at least one preferred option each month. The next meeting will then be June 7 18.00 UTC. Ainali (talk) 18:33, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have added my preference and always want what the majority of us wants, will always try my best to be present in others preferred timings if possible. Namaste. Rajeeb (talk) 17:35, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Timezone

edit

@Bluerasberry: Do we need the timezone twice? It's already in the splashy green field for attention. Ainali talkcontributions 22:19, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

TimeZoneConverter userscript screenshot UTC only
@Ainali: Yes, here is the default view which just shows UTC. Experienced users can add personal scripts to see their own timezone. If the target of outreach includes people with less wiki experience, then I think we should advertise with timezones in addition to UTC.
What do you think? Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:53, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
It would introduce bias to just add a few timezones. Either we show only UTC (perhaps with a link to a converter) or all the timezones. The latter would be tedious. And if we choose the former, we don't need to state that every time that it is in UTC, we only need to do it on the top of the page. Ainali talkcontributions 17:19, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Changing the rhythm

edit

Perhaps we could change the timing of these meetings to something that is not fixed on the same day of the week, but on the same day of the month, e.g. always on the 17th of a month. To also account for additional time zones, we could have meeting hours at different times in UTC, and to combine both suggestions, we could even fix the day and hour together, e.g. 6:00 UTC on the 6th each month, 14:00 UTC on the 14th and 22:00 UTC on the 22nd, or always stick to the 17th of the month, but change the meeting hour according to the month we're in, i.e. 1am UTC in January, 2am in February etc. Daniel Mietchen (talk) 23:50, 7 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I am open for all suggestions, as we can't really have many fewer attendees than we do for now. Pick any system, describe it and let's test it! Ainali talkcontributions 15:53, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
