Plural
editUser:Quiddity (WMF) please add the PLURAL
function into the piece about the reminder bot (number of projects). See [1] Le Loy (talk) 01:47, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Ack, thank you. I missed that when checking what was already formatted.
- Question: I imagine it's easier for translators if we simply use bare numbers, in most cases, in manually written entries like this, in Tech News. E.g. I changed the edition to just use "800" as plain text. -- Versus, in entries that are expected (or known) to be recurring (like we discussed at Talk:Tech/News/Archives/2024#Plural) where
PLURAL
becomes more important, because translators can then rely on the translation-memory system. -- Is that accurate, or am I overlooking/forgetting some aspect? (I.e. Should I replace theformatnum
and add aPLURAL
, or leave it as the now-current plaintext?). Thanks! Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 17:14, 13 December 2024 (UTC)- @Quiddity (WMF), yes, I think that the number is the least ambiguous way to do that. Recurring items surely benefit from
PLURAL
but normal news usually don't need it, and the function itself can be confusing for translators. Cheers! Le Loy (talk) 04:32, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
