Disambiguation links
edit@Jdforrester (WMF): Does this edit summary mean that the same disambiguation link may have appeared multiple times throughout the list? Because that’s what the current wording implies for me. (If yes, it’s a much larger problem than just disambiguation pages often appearing at the top of the list.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 09:49, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- No. But before the list could have been [Foo, Bar, Baz, Bang] where bar and bang are disambiguation links, and now it will be [Foo, Baz, Bar, Bang]; the former wording implies that previously they didn't appear at all ([Foo, Baz]). Adding 'only' changes the implicit stress of the phrase from 'appear' to 'bottom'.
- Very happy to go with other wording, but @MusikAnimal objects to describing the 'before' state at least in this form. Thoughts? Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 10:30, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, the fixed word order of English… In Hungarian it’ll be no problem to mark the stress with the word order. What about “…will now appear always at the bottom…”? Or, iterating on the first version, “will now appear at the bottom of search results, not at the top or in the middle”? That’d address MusikAnimal’s concerns indicated in the edit summary. (I like the “always at the bottom” version more, though, because of its brevity.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 10:50, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- No strong feelings from me! I think what we have now looks good. For the record, I tried to use simple English in my initial wording. There's a chance Community Tech will revert the Gerrit change 708372, delaying it until next week, but we aim to make this decision before Tech News is frozen for translations tomorrow. - @Dušan Kreheľ: Thank you for the additional context and details. Ok, it seems reasonable to add a reminder. I will replace the entry, with some rewording and a single link to keep it clear. Thanks again! Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:46, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
