How will the prioritization be decided and what will it influence

edit

Now that the big global conversations are done, what are the next steps for prioritizing the 45 initiatives?

For example, what will be the influence of the survey that took place after the first meeting and created the heat map?

Is it the most important thing, or can it be further adjusted by things such as:

  • Comments from volunteer editors on talk pages
  • Board decisions
  • WMF C-level decisions
  • Movement strategy core team discussions
  • Comments from chapters
  • Other things

I'd really love to know what will be the weight of the "heat map" and the various items in the above list when making the big decisions about planning and budgeting, and I suspect I'm not the only one. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 19:28, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unclear instructions

edit

With the recent changes to clusters, the sections "Discuss the top initiatives" and "Discuss all initiatives" are probably out of date.

It's quite unclear how to discuss each cluster. On the talk page of the cluster pages, such as the talk page of Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2018-20/Transition/Discuss/Cluster A? Or on the page itself?

And, perhaps more importantly, who will read these discussions and how will they lead to any changes or decisions?

Hi @Amire80:, thanks for the questions. So, we received priorities from 50+ affiliates, communities, and groups from September to November (a few came later). We brought these together in the first Global Conversations and further discussed those that needed global coordination, presented in the heat map. That's how the 8 top priorities were identified and this is what we'll be working on in 2021, no further adjustments needed. During the second Global Conversations, we took the heatmap one step further and asked about implementation. Great baseline. Next step, each initiative/cluster will have at least one follow-up discussion in January so we can create a more concrete action plan (including the needed resources), which we will present to the Board of Trustees in February. The heat map identified areas of work for implementing Movement Strategy and now we will take this forward together with interested individuals and communities. The Support Team will dig into the etherpads and Meta to see what can already be used for clear implementation steps, which we'll share in advance. This will be further discussed and fine-tuned during the follow-up discussions. So, if you have specific thoughts / guidance, please share them on the talk page of each cluster. If more general, then the main page makes sense. The Interim Global Council, as one of the top initiative clusters, will have two sets of global conversations in late Jan and early Feb. The other 7 clusters will likely have smaller discussions during the same time - open to all, but particularly targeted to affiliates, communities, and Foundation teams that prioritized them. Discussions will continue to focus more on concrete implementation steps - where do we want to be in 18 months and what actions and milestones can help us get there. Let me know your thoughts or if you'd like further clarification. MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 21:23, 17 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Context on discussion pages

edit

It would be nice if the discussion pages had enough context to serve as landing pages. If someone visits a page like Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2018-20/Transition/Discuss/Cluster F, it's quite a journey to figure out what the page is about, what its purpose is, what cluster F is (if you have a very sharp eye, you might spot that one of the links in the "Discussion of priorities" header is not link, and if you are familiar with how wikitext self-links work, you might get to some conclusions from that, but surely the topic of the page could be made more explicit than that). --Tgr (talk) 21:24, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Tgr: Thank you for this useful feedback, I may have needed to think of that when I first started the pages. I have just added a brief introductory paragraph to each discussion page (example). Let me know if you think there is anything missing there or any more details that should be further elaborated --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 16:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC).Reply

Typo?

edit

Hi KVaidla (WMF), MPourzaki (WMF), Abbad (WMF) - is this a typo in the list "Cluster B - 36-38: Identify Topics for Impact"? I think it should be "Cluster H?" -- Fuzheado (talk) 19:44, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, thank you Fuzheado for the ping! --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 19:47, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

My opinion (to some initiatives)

edit

Hello. I want to link My stance statement for the ‘Global event’ and initiatives for the Recommendations. It contains the opinions for Initiative 2, 16, 38, 40, and the event itself. Thank you for reading. - Ellif (talk) 03:33, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I was bold to put a google-translation on the talk page, I hope you don't mind. I did it in englisch, not german, as it's a service for others, not my own expressions, and I generally think google works better for english. Grüße vom Sänger ♫(Reden) 10:40, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
