Creating a new one edit

Who do you have to ask, when you want to create a new one? --Flominator 06:15, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

create a bug on bugzilla. Cbrown1023 talk 14:23, 9 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Found out, that it is explained at Mailing lists. Maybe it's not such a good idea to redirect http://lists.wikimedia.org/ to Mailing lists/overview . What about linking it to Mailing lists? --Flominator 17:39, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
It's probably best to request this on Bugzilla too. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 23:56, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mailing list proposal: antivandalism edit

Hi. Can we create a new mailing list about anti-vandalism topics? Tools, bots, attacks, researching, ideas, suggestions, etc. Emijrp 18:22, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

The only concern that I can see is that the persons that shouldn't have access to that info would suscribe... Of course subscription options can be changed if desired. Best, --dferg ☎ talk 19:48, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

reorg edit

I'm doing a little project to reorganize, update and clarify the list o' lists, feel free to revert a change if you disagree. -- phoebe | talk 22:50, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

announce-l, why defunct? edit

Why is announce-l listed in defunct section? I know it goes on : 1) I keep on getting its email 2) You can see in its archive.

By the way, there is the info page at https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/announce-l , but announce-l is not listed in main page at https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo . Why? --SignorX 18:00, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Because it's been dead for two years and it's now superseded by WikimediaAnnounce. The listing is a privacy setting by the list admin, that list is completely useless. Nemo 21:37, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok, so it's superseded.
Sorry, I can not understand your second sentence. Does "The listing" mean the one at https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo main page? --SignorX 21:00, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the fact of being listed there is a privacy option. Nemo 20:16, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Links on Gmane are dead edit

I noticed that the links that are on the pages you get to via the gmane links all seem to be dead, e.g.

On the web, using frames and threads.
            ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
                 dead link

I've tried a few different mailing lists and all the links give a variety page not found. /Sebastian Berlin (WMSE) (talk) 07:53, 23 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

The web part of Gmane is effectively gone (see Lars's blog and gmane.discuss for details), so theoretically these links could be replaced with their nntp counterparts, but as those who could use those links probably do not need them spelt out for them and those who cannot use them … well, cannot use them, they could be removed altogether. --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 13:58, 23 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I saw several links to gmane.org come back recently. --Nemo 11:31, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Which ones work for you? --Tim Landscheidt (talk) 14:42, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
gmane.org is officially now gmane.io see lar's blog post wayback link

Allow autoconfirmed user to edit edit

Hello Hasley, You’ve protected the page, allowing only administrators to edit it. I would like to prepare and mark it for translation. Can you authorize autoconfirmed users to edit the page, please (as the previous protection by Billinghurst)? I don’t think a full protection is required: vandals seem to be mainly IP. --Pols12 (talk) 18:37, 14 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Pols12 and Hasley: Guessing that it is slip, and an easy one. I have backed it off, and we can ramp it up again if required. Thanks for the note.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:53, 14 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks to both. My computer glitched when I protected it. Not sure why level changed. My apologies. —Sgd. Hasley 12:38, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mailing list proposal: ilae.wikipedia edit

The purpose of the ILAE Wikipedia Epilepsy Project (project page) is to improve the coverage of epilepsy related articles on Wikipedia. This would involve tagging the existing articles, assessing their quality, making a to do list for those articles, making the changes, submitting them for evaluation by epilepsy experts, and to make further changes as needed. The scope will also extend to creation of new articles either using article drafts and new article review process or by overall following the process delineated above. You can learn further by reading a more detailed project plan. The project aims to bridge the gap between academia and Wikipedia and to create a community of epilepsy professionals on Wikipedia. I have been selected as the editor in chief of the project (news) and would be facilitating the process. Members from Wikimedia Medicine and WikiEdu are providing active support. A mailing list would be needed for coordination between the members. The mailing list can be for the ILAE Wikipedia Project (ilae.wikipedia@lists.wikimedia.org - more preferable) or for the proposed 'epilepsy task force' (epilepsy@lists.wikimedia.org)(proposal given at w:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine/Task forces#Epilepsy task force) which the project would operate. I, Dr. Diptanshu Das (das.diptanshu@gmail.com), and (Dr. Nandan Yardi (w:User:NANDAN YARDI) nandan.yardi@gmail.com), would be the initial and secondary list administrators respectively. User:Avicenno, admin on ar.wikipedia and membership admin of Wikimedia Medicine will also be actively involved. The mailing list info should read something like 'A mailing list to facilitate interactions between the participants of the ILAE Wikipedia Project which works with the objective of improving the coverage of epilepsy-related articles on Wikipedia.' Non digest persons are getting digest ones edit

I am currently a mailing list admin of Wikiml-l. I have actually subscribed for Non-Digested list. But, I am getting emails that are in the form of digest ones. Meaning, non digest persons are actually getting mails in digest format. How can this be resolved? Adithyak1997 (talk) 10:33, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
