Late additions to the survey

User:Candalua posted a couple of new proposals on the voting page today, which attracted a good amount of support. Unfortunately, it is too late for more proposals to be added. We began the survey with a two-week phase where people were invited to submit proposals, and each proposal needed to be endorsed by another user in order to move to the voting phase. That was Nov 9th to 22nd. This is the second phase, where people are invited to vote on the proposals that were submitted. Candalua, it sounds like you're just hearing about the survey now, and you missed the proposals phase. I'm sorry about that, we've been trying to promote the survey as much as we can. But we can't accept new proposals now; it wouldn't be fair to the other people who have participated so far.

About the Phabricator backlog: For this survey, some of the proposals have come straight from old Phabricator tickets. Part of the idea of the survey is for people to speak up for the features and fixes that they think are most important. I don't disagree with the idea of "fix everything in the backlog," it just isn't what we're asking for in this survey.

On the positive side: it looks like Wikisource is rallying the troops -- some of the existing proposals on this page are getting a lot of support. The best way to get these Wikisource-related items into our backlog is to get as many votes as possible.

@DannyH (WMF): thanks for your polite message. I was thinking that, this being a community survey, people could actually post proposals at any time in the survey (I landed directly on this page, and it says nothing about phases and endorsement). But I should have known how much our community loves rules and procedures. Now rules are rules, and yes, it wouldn't be fair to allow some late proposal and reject others. Then if I may tell you my frank opinion, I don't think it's very wise, to hold a survey and then give only 2 weeks time for proposals, and reject all late proposals just because they're late, and not because of their content. About the phabricator backlog, as you see it wasn't really a "new" proposal, but more of a "reminder": we've been posting requests and proposals there for years, and despite getting some user support, they got little attention so far. A Mobile App for Wikisource Tracked in Phabricator: Task T74077 It would be great to have a mobile app for Wikisource, modeled after the Wikipedia app, that allows at least to search a text on any language edition and read it on the device (editing is much more complex and can wait). The intention of this survey is to "improv[e] or produc[e] curation and moderation tools for active contributors", which this proposal does not, and proposals are ranked partially based on the improvement in editor productivity (which of course is number of editors multiplied by amount of time saved). Anything that effects a single project only does not impact a sufficient number of editors. Some are simply software bugs which should be fixed sooner or later, others are enhancements that could be useful. Probably some can be done with little effort (in some cases a patch has already been proposed).
