Alex ShihEdit

  • Languages: zh, en-5, ja-5
  • Personal info: (English)
Hello all, my name is Alex. I am an administrator of the English Wikipedia, and briefly held checkuser and oversight access as a member of the English Arbitration Committee last year. I am not your average steward candidate; I am putting myself forward mostly because there are currently no Chinese-speaking stewards, and there are some useful work I can see myself doing at SRCU. I will be more than happy to answer any questions about my experience and knowledge over different aspects of the Wikimedia Foundation.

BaseEdit

  • Personal info: (English)
    Hello,

I am Base. I am a native Ukrainian speaker, I also speak near-native Russian, I understand Belarusian reasonably well, and I speak Upper-Intermediate English. As to other languages, I can get rudimentary Japanese, Spanish, and Dutch, as well as other Slavic languages.

I am in Wikimedia movement for almost eight years.

Originally being from Ukrainian community, my second home is Meta-Wiki where I serve as an administrator for 3 years. I have participated to a bigger or smaller extent in most of the sister projects, in a couple of Wikipedias, and the focal point of my activity is the international Community being Meta, Outreachwiki, to a smaller extent Commons and Wikidata.

I have never been much a content contributor, rather focusing on different meta areas such as enforcing Licensing policy, designing templates, running bots mostly for some non-trivial (i.e. not pywikibot predefined) tasks, as well as translation of the global content (on Meta, Outreachwiki, Commons, Mediawiki.org, and Wikidata) and the interface (on Translatewiki.net).

I am not bereft of controversy, you can read about it on my Meta RfA. There is nothing I can do about things done but learn from them, and hopefully I am doing a much better job now.

As a Meta-Wiki admin, I already hold some global permissions, such as global abuse filter rights, until recently Central Notice rights, and global * blacklist modification access.

I see the following areas as my primary focus be I elected a steward:

    • SRP — I've interacted with the page many times to request rather a spectrum of rights for myself and other users on different wikis, I believe I know procedures and practices well enough.
    • SRUC — I do not hold the account renamer flag, but I am familiar with some possible pitfalls of the process, also having undergo usurpations and some juggling with my accounts for SUL finalisation I know some of the finer details.
    • SRM — some requests require mass actions, and I can conjure bots/scripts which will help; some require some insight, and I believe I have broad enough experience to have a good one.
    • SRB — as a botmaster myself I think I would be the right person to manage those.
    • SRGP — I am well aware what each of the global flags is for, no rocket science here otherwise.
    • SRG — I will keep an eye on unblock requests, I know that some blocks affect hundreds of good faith editors and there's room for improvement in better response to those.
    • OS — I am familiar with the policy, and I will do my best to ensure prompt reaction to the requests.

I will also respond to the stewards queue in OTRS, I have experience with OTRS per se on its permissions frontier.

As much as my time and the boundaries of policies would allow, I will try to help small wikis with some technical set up.

I will also do SRCU, I am familiar with the policy as well as the tool for what it is worth, but I do not see myself as an LTA war vanguard fighter. I have experience in SWMT from quite a while ago, but I will not have time and energy to chase after vandals all the time.

My own criteria of a good Steward candidate include cross-wiki contributions (I do not believe a person contributing to a single wiki or two only would make a good steward), counter-vandalism activity (stewardship revolves around it this way or the other), and familiarity with the global policies where it is possible to gauge that. I believe myself to be competent in this regard. Stewardship is probably that one flag that is a big deal. It is a big decision for me to decide to run. I feel like I am ready to help, now it is up to the community to decide if that help is needed.

EinsborEdit

After a year of break I want to join the stewards team back again. I used to be a steward for almost 3 years, since 2015. Now, my private life is much more organized, I got some time to do the job here. I want to be active mostly in permissions, CU, OS and other, everyday work. I believe I am still responsible enough to be given your trust and to serve the community as steward.

Jon KolbertEdit

  • Languages: en, fr, de-2
  • Personal info: (English)
Hello, my name is Jon and I am an administrator on Wikimedia Commons, an account creator on the English Wikipedia and an OTRS agent. My work focuses on anti-spam and anti-vandalism and I am mostly active on IRC networks under the nick “kolbert”.

As a member of the English Wikipedia Account Creation Team, I help users who are caught up in rangeblocks create accounts and participate in Wikimedia projects. As a considerable portion of requests are global blocks, we rely on the work of stewards to filter requests and prevent LTAs from getting through this process. There is a large backlog of requests and only a few stewards active on the team (list of users).

I have also worked in collaboration with other Wikimedians to combat cross-wiki LTAs through edit filters and other monitoring to help identify and address specific types of vandalism and spam.

I have been active on wikipedias and related projects (wikipedias, wikisource, translations) for many years now, and I would certainly like to cooperate even more actively with the whole community and contribute to its progress.

PraxidicaeEdit

  • Languages: EN-n
  • Personal info: (English)
Hi! I'm Praxidicae. I am currently a global sysop and administrator on Mediawiki, account creator on the English Wikipedia, abuse filter helper and OTRS agent and through these rights, I frequently deal with sensitive, private information. My primary focus is combating cross-wiki spam, vandalism and harassment, especially dealing with spambots, which I have extensive experience identifying, deleting and blocking, where permitted, as well as collaborating with various projects to identify strings for abuse filters to prevent spam and vandalism. Ultimately I am running to help abate the extensive problem of cross-wiki abuse, outside of typical childish vandalism.

Having been the subject myself of targeted harassment in real life that stemmed from on-wiki abuse, I am hoping to also work with the Wikimedia Foundation through this role to create a healthier environment for editors and find additional resources to help those who may also be targeted in this way. I hope for the community's trust and support.

SchniggendillerEdit

  • Languages: de, en-3
  • Personal info: (English)
Hi, I'm Schniggendiller, an active wikimedian since 2008. In the German Wikipedia, I have the pleasure of being an administrator since July 2013. Until the wikis were locked, I was also admin at the wikis for Wikimania 2015 and 2016. I spend probably as much time reading in the wikiverse as editing. Again and again I'm impressed (and interested) by the international scope of the Wikimedia movement. I would like to serve as a steward, if I gain your trust.
My main focus as an administrator is (and would be as a steward) the fight against vandalism, sock puppeteers and trolls. Often, I check global contribs of these, report them at steward requests/global, steward mail or WMF's trust & safety team and revert their vandalism whereever it happens. I do not back off if things became technical (i.e. abuse filters). The checkuser and oversight tools would be new for me, as IRC, but I'm willing to learn new things. I consider myself as cool-headed and thorough.

Wim bEdit

  • Languages: it, en-2
  • Personal info: (English)
Hi, I’m Wim b. Since 2013, as a Global sysop (from 2013 to 2017 and since 2018) and as an active member of SWMT, I usually help in fighting cross-wiki spam, spambot, vandalisms and deletion in wikis without local sysop. I'm also sysop on it.wikibooks and sysop and bureaucrat on it.wiktionary. So I'd like to help in all steward actions always taking into account our policies. Thanks for your consideration, if you have any questions or doubts feel free to ask.
