This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.A committee member provided the following comment: Until a separate Wikisource is created, please add texts at oldwikisource:Main Page/ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ ᡤᡳᠰᡠᠨ. - The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | mnc (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Manchu | Language name in English |
Language name | ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ ᡤᡳᠰᡠᠨ | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q33638 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | Vertical, LTR per lines | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | mnc.wikisource.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | ? | "Wikisource" in your language |
Project namespace | usually the same as the project name | |
Project talk namespace | "Wikisource talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) | |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | Asia/Shanghai | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal
editApparently there is a large collection of Qing Dynasty resources in Manchu language, like according to http://www.xuehuile.com/thesis/17bed6acbb1b49b68f7aba5a195117fe.html and http://www.zgdazxw.com.cn/news/2015-03/19/content_91310.htm there're more than 2 million Manchu language file exist in China alone. I've also read that studying Manchu-language-based material have already become a new trend in Qing Dynasty study. Personally I don't know the language nor was I into Qing study, but I think it'd be suitable for the establishment of Manchu wikisource to host existing Manchu resources. On the ither hand, there's quite a few obstacles exist that need to be resolved before such a wikisource project can success, like 1. many of these resources exist only in their physical form, which mean people must go to those museum/library/archive to copy them down to wikisource, 2. Even if some resources have been digitized, some might not be available via internet, and even if they are, most of them exist in image form, so manual copying would still be required, and 3. To copy those text manually from physical/image form, which require peopke who actually know the language to do so. According to one of the previously linked webpage there are <50 researchers in China know Manchu language and this amount of Manchu-user is subpar to other nations, so there're quite a few researchers around the world who could read Manchu text but then how to let them help with wikisource is another question. - Support, even if there won’t ever be a Manchu Wikipedia, a Manchu Wikisource is definitely a must. There’s an extensive body of works in the Manchu language created during the Qing Dynasty and many major treaties of the Qing Dynasty were also written in Manchu. I do suggest that we should use both the Manchu script and Latin script (Möllendorff/Moellendorff, preferably) with the Manchu script being used predominantly and the Möllendorff romanization only being used as a point of reference for those unfamiliar with the vertical script. --Donald Trung (Talk 🤳🏻) (My global lock 😒🌏🔒) (My global unlock 😄🌏🔓) 10:17, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

- I personally do Support this proposal. In Ching/Qing Dynasty, there were thousands of thousands of archive written by Manchu, and till now, none of the Wikisource do support to put those insides. It is a massive regret if the emperors' edict could not be kept in the Wikisource. --だ☆ぜ 𓋹 謹此敬上 09:04, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
