Movement Charter/Ambassadors Program/FAQ

This page provides answers to some questions you may have about the Movement Charter Ambassadors Program.

What are Movement Charter Ambassadors?

Movement Charter (MC) Ambassadors are volunteers supporting the Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC) to reach more communities and collect their feedback about the drafting charter content. They ensure their communities' voices are heard in the consultation cycles.

Why a Movement Charter Ambassador is needed?

We need more voices from the local communities to participate and provide their feedback about the Movement Charter, which impacts the entire movement.

How many hours do Movement Charter Ambassadors have to dedicate?

It is not anticipated to take too much time. Keep in mind: the Movement Charter Ambassadors role is similar to other volunteer roles in the Wiki movement. No one determines the number of hours we dedicate to volunteering in the Wiki movement, and the MC Ambassadors' role is like that. It depends on each individual and their planned activities. For example, it might take 1 hour to translate the drafts; 1 hour to invite your community to the conversations and to set up the conversations; 1 hour or more for the conversation itself; and 1 hour for the reporting.

How many volunteers are needed for a community or project?

This is a new program, so we are hoping for at least one volunteer per community. If there are more than one interested individual in the same community, we encourage you to work together!

What is the duration of this role?

This role is active through the community consultation cycle starting in November 2022 and ending in December 2022. (There will be more opportunities to be a MC Ambassador, aligned with future community consultation cycles.)

Will there be any training for Movement Charter Ambassadors?

Ambassadors know best their communities, we do not think training is needed. However, there will be onboarding conversations to better understand the Movement Charter and how the consultation cycles will work, as well as to answer any questions you might have about the activities. MC Ambassadors are encouraged to attend those onboarding conversations! And if you have other questions or require more guidance, you can reach out on the talk page or by emailing at strategy2030@wikimedia.org

Will there be a guideline to assist Movement Charter Ambassadors in their work?

The facilitation team will provide best practice suggestions, and tips like organizing a conversation, and writing a report. Templates will be provided to support this. If there is anything you think would be helpful, please let us know on the talk page or by emailing at strategy2030@wikimedia.org

Can I collaborate with other volunteers even if they are not MC ambassadors?

Absolutely! Please coordinate with them, so you know who is doing what.

How does the Movement Charter Grant package work?

The MC Ambassadors grant package is a dedicated fund that has been made available to support any interested people who want to organize a Movement Charter community review conversation in their community.

More details on how to apply for the grant are here.
