I look after campaign page creations for the Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group and I would like to request translation adminship to facilitate creating bilingual pages for my usergroup. Leaderboard, hello and thank you! You are right on that, I'm not part of either the board members (which more or less are the founders) or the staff members (which are our project managers). I'm an admin on the Albanian Wikipedia and as such I volunteer in helping look after tech-stuff whenever I can. Support, but please avoid to put formatting tag inside translatable content (by the way, a closing </div> is required). Please also note that we must use explicit parameters name when they have translatable values, this is a 2020 syntax requirement (else, that breaks partially translated pages). -- Pols12 (talk) 20:39, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pols12, hello! Thank you for your support and especially the advices! Can I ask for some details regarding them so I can understand better?

You say to avoid putting formatting tag inside translatable content. I'm guessing you mean the inline styling? Why would that be a bad idea? Do you think it would make translators a bit confused when doing their job or are there other reasons at play?
Please also note that we must use explicit parameters name when they have translatable values - What exactly are you referring to when you say explicit parameter names? You mean , and such? Aren't such names put automatically when a page is marked for translation? Can you give me an example of a bad case and how would it be fixed?

@Klein Muçi: Inline styling is strongly discouraged as it creates unnecessary lint error issues when the translator is using a online translating tool, which is also strongly discouraged. For the 2nd question, when translating content in a template, either use <translate nowrap> or include the default parameter ({{a template|1=<translate></translate>}}). Reason is the translated page will have the respective translation units wrapped in <div id="XXX"></div> or <span id="XXX"></span> HTML tags. Minorax, thank you for the explanations! Following your logic, isn't my use case, that user Pols12 has brought as an example with a link, correct? I can't seem to find any issues with it. The translate tags are within a wikilink ([[ ]]) so defining an explicit parameter is not necessary. Unless Pols12 is catching something else. --Min☠︎rax^«¦talk¦» 12:24, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for being unclear @Klein Muçi, and thank you Minorax for clarifications.

It is much easier to translate Hello than <div class="red">Hello. If the translator does not know HTML, they may even wrongly translate “class” or “red” words.
For the given diff, I expected {{center |1=…}} since translate tags may produce `=` sign. However, I did not note translate tags are inside wikilinks, so the `=` sign cannot break the template, my bad.
