Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat/Archives/2016-05

Confirmed

Please confirm this account so I may request a OAuth token for English Wikipedia. This is a, currently unapproved, bot account for TParis.--UTRSBot (talk) 20:55, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Done. Ajraddatz (talk) 21:02, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
(Edit conflict.) I'm sorry, but admins and bureaucrats cannot help you, see Special:UserGroupRights. --Vogone (talk) 21:02, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
They need the confirmed flag to even put in a request for OAuth approval. Ajraddatz (talk) 21:04, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Does not give us the ability to grant it. :-) --Vogone (talk) 21:07, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Haha, so it is. I thought that was a default part of the sysop group. Good call :P Ajraddatz (talk) 21:09, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

@Murbaut: Please note that this page is only for Meta-related issues; to request an administrative action to be performed at any other wiki please make your request at SRM. You can't delete pages because you're not an administrator. Regards.--Syum90 (talk) 07:43, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

Supressredirect

Can you move User:Innocent bystander to User:Innocent bystander/Iw-Module-tests without creating a redirect? My edit was intentional, but not that this page should be visible in every project I do not have a user_page in. -- Innocent bystander (talk) 06:42, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

please delete an unneeded uncontroversial page created in error

I created User:Applicable_law in error, because I forgot to change the namespace menu during a move from userspace when it was intended to go to mainspace. I saw the instruction on marking it for deletion but when I followed the link for that step instead it opened a page for creating the page. I'm not an admin. Could you please delete the User:Applicable_law page?

Thank you.

Mathsci is abusing the thanking feature to spam my notifications

  Resolved.

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=thanks&user=Mathsci

Mathsci is thanking random posts of mine, and spamming my notifications. Mathsci and I haven't been on good terms for the last couple of months. He's has refused to offer an explanation for his behavior. As far as I'm concerned, Mathsci is behaving abusively towards someone he dislikes. He's likely doing this to annoy me. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 12:51, 7 May 2016 (UTC)

Mathsci thanked me again, despite knowing full well how I feel about it. This is pure passive-aggression (i.e. refusing to communicate whatever problem he has with me to my face while conducting subtle actions to frustrate me), and it ought to end. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 14:43, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
(ec) I have used the "thank" button to acknowledge 4 edits to my user talk page and 2 edits elsewhere where Michaeldsuarez discussed an edit rev-delled by Avraham. I resumed editing on the wikimedia projects on 10 April and sent a Meta email to Michaeldsuarez on 24 April clarifying that the administrator MastCell had been misidentified off-wiki (I know his RL name). It was a good faith email. Its contents were posted here by Michaeldsuarez (without my permission) and rev-delled by Avraham at my request. As far as I am aware I have had no dealings with Michaeldsuarez on any of the wikimedia projects; as I mentioned to Avraham in private, Michaeldsuarez has been helpful to me in the past offwiki. I also sent him an off-wiki email concerning the en.wikipedia unbanning process less than a month ago, thinking it might be helpful to him and others.
It is fairly straightforward to disable the notification tab in the Meta preferences dashboard. Click on Preferences, then click on Notifications and then untick Thanks in the column Web. Hope this helps. Mathsci (talk) 16:04, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
Blanking my messages is ackowledgement enough. I use my watchlist. Using the thanking feature in this manner is awkward. In addition, I would prefer it if you actually spoke to me instead of merely "acknowledging" my existenece. Communication is key on a collaborative project, and using the thanking feature in this manner isn't clear communication. I would like you to speak with me as a part of a dialogue.
I've checked my old Email account, and I've never received any advice on appealing bans from you.
I don't have any interest in disabling notifications. I like being aware of when people appreciate my actions. This is what the thanking feature is for, yet you were using it for something else. I'm not going to change my preferences to accommodate one person's odd use of the thanking feature; instead, you should use the feature in the manner it was meant to be used. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 22:19, 7 May 2016 (UTC)

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
I sent you a message from my usual email address on 14 April after you had speculated off-wiki about why I had contacted User:Mjroots. Off-wiki you suggested that he was some form of meatpuppet. You also speculated about why my appeal to arbcom might have been delayed. I forwarded you a copy of an email to Mjroots about a missed rev-dell on he.wikipedia.org: it did not concern en.wikipedia.org. In the email I also mentioned details of my unban appeal, including reasons why there had been delays. The email was sent to the same address you had used for contacting me a long while back: it was ******of***** at yahoo.com. Please check that email account. Anyway, here is what I wrote to you (I have corrected the spelling of Hartwig):

I hope that clarifies matters for you. Mathsci (talk) 00:39, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Yes, it does. I see that I do have that Email, although I don't use that Email address any longer. I've just added your corrections to the Wikipediocracy thread, since I believe that that is probably what you meant by the Email "be[ing] helpful to him [me] and others." --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 01:40, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
You surprise me :) OTOH, what you just wrote off-wiki is accurate. Mathsci (talk) 03:08, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
Mathsci hasn't sent any more thanks notifications since the original post, so I guess this is resolved now? Ajraddatz (talk) 01:40, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Actually, he has sent me one thanks since the original post:
But yes, this is more or less resolved. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 12:50, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
No, all those diffs have already been mentioned in your first two postings and discussed by me above (4 acknowledgements on my talk page and 2 on [redacted-3]'s talk page). Yesterday I thanked User:Ajraddatz, see the thanks log. I was grateful that he suggested closing this report. Mathsci (talk) 14:31, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
"Original post" refers to my first post. My second post was a follow-up, made over an hour later, but like I've said, this matter is pretty much closed. --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 23:19, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks both. Ajraddatz (talk) 23:21, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Add Outreach Wiki to list on Special:Import

When I visit Special:Import, there are only a few wikis listed as options, from which to import pages. Can outreach.wikimedia.org be added to that list? -Pete F (talk) 16:37, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Yes, provided there is consensus for this. I would not object to it being added. --Vogone (talk) 16:40, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
I have no concerns with such an addition. I think a task needs to be opened on Phabricator to add it. Ajraddatz (talk) 16:41, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
I support the idea. Yes I think we need to request it at phab:.--Syum90 (talk) 16:53, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
No objection, uncontroversial. --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:58, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Happy to start a Phabricator ticket. I thought perhaps it was a task an admin or bureaucrat could easily perform locally. How much consensus do you guys think is needed? What I would like to do right now is, I think, uncontroversial: I'd like to move outreach:Assessment of Belfer Center Wikipedian in Residence program from Outreach Wiki to Meta Wiki. I proposed the move more than two months ago; there have been no objections. But there are other pages that should arguably be moved from Meta Wiki than Outreach Wiki. Each should be considered on its own merits, but it would be good to remove this technical hurdle if possible. Somewhat related is the 2012 discussion around Eloquence's proposal, Wikimedia.org, which proposed merging these (and other) wikis entirely. -Pete F (talk) 17:04, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Merging the two wikis is definitely a bad idea and to that there is an opposition in Outreach community. Importing some pages with good rationale I suppose is ok, as long as it is not abused. --Base (talk) 22:05, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
It is very uncontroversial, but it should be clear there is no opposition to this from the community. I suppose just leaving this here open for 2-3 days would suffice as "consensus". --Vogone (talk) 17:06, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

OK, thank you all. I have created this ticket: phab:T134788 and referenced this discussion for consensus. Any help making sure I used the appropriate project tags etc. would be appreciated. -Pete F (talk) 17:08, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Iberocoop_Translating_Ibero_America

Major typo on this banner—should be "Translating" in the en translation. czar 01:50, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Done. thanks. Matiia (talk) 02:14, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
Still showing up misspelled for me. I've purged my cache. Shouldn't that fix it? --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:19, 11 May 2016 (UTC) Actually, strike that, there was some kind of delay but now the change is displaying. But the hyphen is still wrong. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:21, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
It should say: 'Join our contest, "Translating Ibero-America", an editing contest around Ibero-American culture!' Jonesey95 (talk) 03:34, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
Yes – otherwise the "T" in "Translating" should not be captialized. IJBall (talk) 05:03, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
It should be okay now. Please let me know if something else should be changed. Thanks. Matiia (talk) 01:36, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi. As stated on CentralNotice/Usage guidelines, please try to limit traffic for banners like this. Most people are annoyed by banners (especially when it has no relevancy to them). I've just limited its traffic to 35%. Thanks, --Glaisher (talk) 09:39, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Matiia (talk) 02:17, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Muchas gracias Matiia. Voy a RFC. Saludos.--Akapochtli (talk) 02:37, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Hola, coincido plenamente con Matiia; por otra parte te recomiendo que informes sobre la apertura de la RFC en los cafés de es.wp y de nah.wp para obtener la máxima participación.--Syum90 (talk) 08:15, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Listing/Linking Arabic Login in page

There is an Arabic version for the login page . But the Arabic language is not listed in the default login page. And if you were browsing the Arabic version of meta wiki and clicked on create account you will be redirected to the English copy, even though Arabic copy of the same page exist. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ghassanmass (talk)

Aren't those languages chosen by MediaWiki? Perhaps you can try filing a Phabricator ticket requesting a link to the Arabic version to be added there. --Glaisher (talk) 16:47, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

Why priority is 35%? @Syum90:, this is India's biggest Wikimedia Conference. Jim Carter (talk) 17:16, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
@Jim Carter: Not limited now. I understand that this campaign is only for logged in users, is this correct?--Syum90 (talk) 17:37, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it is correct. The campaign is only for logged-in users. BTW thanks, Syum90. Jim Carter (talk) 17:52, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
@Syum90: I recently learned that you have not added "bn" into the list even when I have mentioned it above. Please add Bengali (bn) to the list where the campaign should run. Thank you! Jim Carter (talk) 16:23, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

@Jim Carter: Now added. I had added bh instead of bn. Regards.--Syum90 (talk) 16:35, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Stalled RfTAs

Hello. Can a bureaucrat other than me please have a look at Meta:Requests_for_adminship#Requests_for_translation_adminship and resolve both? Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 09:24, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

MassMessage for Jayen466

As an editor of the Signpost, Jayen466 needs the massmessage right to send out global deliveries of the Signpost when the bot is down (like this week—I have sent this week's message at his request, using my legacy access, but Jayen should have the right going forward).
