Info visibility on Wikipedia

Info visibility on Wikipedia is an event aimed at improving articles on the Igbo Wikipedia. This improvements will enable more information about the article or subject through data boxes. Data box works like the infobox that is seen on the right corner of an article on English Wikipedia or other language Wikipedias. The Translation of Wikidata Properties commenced within the Igbo Wikimedians community and Ig Wiki Librarians Hub members to make data boxes appear in Igbo language when databox templates are placed on articles, thereby creating more visibility of major information about the subject of an article on Igbo Wikipedia. This event will end with a contest and winners will be awarded prizes.

Learning goals edit

At the end of the event, participants will understand how translating Wikidata properties, labels, description, and aliases work on the Igbo Wikipedia. Participants will also know how to:

  1. Insert Wikidata powered data boxes to articles on the Igbo Wikipedia
  2. Translate English Wikidata properties and items (labels, descriptions, and aliases) that appear on data boxes to Igbo
  3. Insert images to data boxes via Wikidata

  • The to-do list of articles to work on can be found here. To select a list, comment on the section you want to work on (e.g B1-B50, F1-F50, etc)

How to get involved edit

Participation is welcomed from community members.To participate, log into the event dashboard so that your contributions can be tracked, also sign your name under participants. To sign your name under participants below, type in this code #~~~~ under the last person's name using 'edit source' editor. The meeting link will be sent to online participants.

Outcome edit

After a week's contest of improving articles on the Igbo Wikipedia, participants were able to edit 7,540 articles and a total of 7,930 edits were made. Prizes was awarded to top participants and other participants were also given consolation prizes. The contest was an interesting one because the list of the total number of articles on the mainspace of the Igbo Wikipedia were edited and improved by adding data boxes. The contributions of participants were tracked using xtool and the events dashboard. For comprehensive information see score sheet and event dashboard
