Create new page in custom namespace via search function

edit

I have created a few custom namespaces. Everything works fine when linking from an existing page to a new page in a certain custom namespace. BUT: When a user is looking for a non-existent page via search and he clicks on "create page" this page is created in main-namespace. So how can I assign that page to a custom namespace? And in general: how can I change the namespace a page is assigned to?

Gino

Hi Gino, the last question: you can change a page's ns simply by changing ist name (put the "XYZ:" before the article's name). Hence the namespaces are not part of the database but only a matter of appearance and search behaviour there's no need to adjust more. But the other question: How to make the "create"-link appear for non-existent articles in a custom-namespace in the search list? I really wonder, too. Bye -Rob.

Changing appearance of namespace

edit

This page doesn't seem all that active, but I'll give it a shot. Is it possible to change the appearance of a namespace? For example, instead of reading "Category:Digters", to appear simple as "Digters" (while in reality still located at "Category:Digters"? Anrie 17:35, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Need help understanding the Portal namespace

edit

This page says: "In addition to these 18 namespaces, the Wikipedia specially adds to these the Portal: and Portal talk: namespaces."

That's the closest thing I've been able to find anywhere to a helpful explanation of the Portal namespace, but I am stumped as for implementing this namespace on the Amharic wikipedia. We don't seem to have this as a namespace yet, and I can't figure out where I would go to tweak it... there has been some discussion of having a portal namespace with the English word 'portal' translated to በር but none of the usual places for message translation seem to have any space for renaming it. "Main" Namespace in german

edit

Hello,
i need the german name for the Main namespace for configuration of preloading.

It is not clear where exactly you need a German name for the Main namespace, the default
NS_MAIN => ''
applies.--Patrick (talk) 06:20, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Counting pages

edit

How do we count the total number of pages in a custom namespace? We use {{NUMBEROFPAGES}} to count total pages on a wiki, but how do add a counter for pages in a particular namespace? Thank you. --117.192.127.239 15:07, 2 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

{{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} gives number in ns 0. There is also mw:Help:Magic_words#PAGESINNS, but it's not enabled here. You may be able to use Lua for this, but I doubt parserfunctions can do it unless PAGESINNS is enabled. PiRSquared17 (talk) 05:57, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
