Grants talk:TPS/Liridon/Wikipedia Weekend in Tirana 2016
Feedback on your proposal
editDear Liridon,
Thank you for submitting this request. We can support your travel request, but we first have some questions related to administrative distinctions in our grant programs. Typically, this program focuses on funding travel to non-Wikimedia events. This is because we prefer for travel funds for Wikimedia events to be included in the budget for the events as a whole, when the events are funded by WMF. For that reason, can you please confirm how Wikipedia Weekend in Tirana 2016 is funded? If it is not funded through a WMF grant, then we want to confirm whether there are any additional funding support needs that may be submitted to WMF for this event. If so, we'd prefer to receive those requests as a single, combined request through our Rapid Grants program.
If this is the only funding support needed, we can fund this request through TPS.
Once we have received your answers, we can make a decision about this request.
Thank you! --Marti (WMF) (talk) 15:47, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hello @Mjohnson (WMF):
- The organizing team soon will apply for a WMF Rapid Grant to organize this event, and that is why they can't afford to pay for travel and accommodation of speakers. I dont know how many speakers will need/request scholarships, but I'll ping also @Leeturtle, leading organizer of WWT2016. If there is a need for more than one then will be better the option of combined request, and then each of recipients to do their own report. --Liridon (talk) 17:33, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you Liridon for the clarification. Dear @Mjohnson (WMF):, there will be more than one person that we would love to host at WikiWeekend 2016. With the rapid grant we are applying it is not easy to cover these costs for the speakers we plan to host. We would love to host at least 6 speakers and/or workshop presenters from abroad. What do you think would be the best approach? Bad news is that we don't have too much time until the first weekend of December to finalize this. Many thanks in advance. --Leeturtle (talk) 21:50, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for your feedback, Liridon and Leeturtle. Based on my understanding of your response, I gather that your total request for your event will exceed $2,000. In this case, funding should not come from either this program or Rapid Grants. Rather, you should apply through Conference Grants. We cannot approve requests split between multiple grant programs for a single event. This TPS request as well as your Rapid Grant request should be combined into a single, comprehensive request and submitted according to these guidelines. If you have any additional questions, you can direct them to Kacie Harold, who is the Program Officer for Conference Grants. Thanks! --Marti (WMF) (talk) 13:03, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks Marti (WMF) for your answer. At this stage is almost impossible for them to apply for a Conference Grants, since decision for a conference grant takes time ("within 6 weeks of submission") while WikiWeekend2016 will be held on 3 and 4 December. Anyway, in case there is a conflict between grants, then I'm withdrawing my application, I can cover for myself, it is more important that conference to be founded.--Liridon (talk) 13:51, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
Not funded
editDear Liridon, thank you for this submission and for your engagement with the committee during the review process. As you may already know, this event has been funded through WMF's Rapid grant program. Since TPS does not fund Wikimedia-funded events, your request is not eligible for funding consideration. We welcome future requests from you that may better fit the TPS program's eligibility criteria and wish you all the best in your future work. -- Best wishes, JTud (WMF), Grants Administrator (talk) 23:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
