Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wikimedia UG Nigeria/Color Printer+Inks

Hello Olaniyan Olushola and thank you for your request. I am happy to see that you have plans to "professionalize" a bit, but I have to say that the way this request is formulated is a bit vague. Here are a few questions and remarks:

  1. What kind of documents does the User Group need to print that cannot be printed in a business center? Can you be more specific about this and give me a list of important documents you can imagine printing with this device?
  2. I also want to point out that color printers are by definition really expensive, not so much in buying the printer, but in keeping it supplied with ink. Can you confirm how much ink the budget that you lay out is for (it seems extremely high) and how you plan on getting the funding for the ink in the future?
  3. Also, you say that the printer will be put in a central location, but can you confirm what plan you have to give people access exactly?

On another note, I want to point out that the Nigeria User Group has a lot of open grants so far. Since the printer is not a timely demand, we will delay giving an answer on this until most other grants are finished and reported on. Thanks! Delphine (WMF) (talk) 08:47, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you @Delphine (WMF): for this information and your quick reply. There are essential documents that we print in business center that if entered into wrong hands may be harmful to the affiliates and also to the foundation such as Grant Agreement and Fund related documents. Also, WUGN is presently entering into partnership with institutions, exchange of documents from both parties should be kept private. Therefore, it will be difficult to control the circulation of such documents at the business centre.
We decided to buy color printer because of cost of printing a letter head we only have our letter head in soft copy. Therefore, each time it is needed we always print in color form and it is usually expensive. More so, the affiliate is not buoyant to invest in the printing of our letterhead in hard copy. Therefore, if we bought a color printer it will reduce cost of printing of the mentioned documents and also present a more authentic outfit.
it will be kept at my custody, where each member can access.

Thank you for your support alwaysOlaniyan Olushola (talk) 09:14, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Olaniyan Olushola for these answers. Do not forget question 2 ;). Delphine (WMF) (talk) 09:18, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Delphine (WMF): thank you for the reminder. i am also sorry for omitting the second question. Cost of toner proposed will cover three pieces of toners. Though we understand the cost of buying ink on continuous basis will be an issue. We have agreed to tackle this challenge in three ways 1. personal contribution among the team members 2. seek for funding from some of our local partners 3. Use perhaps, part of the contingency fund from any of our running project. However, since we are aware of how expensive buying the ink will be. We also resolve to restrict printing of documents that are not necessary on the printer so that each ink bought will last longer.
Kindly clarify, in one of your comments above.... are you referring to Ghana User group or Nigeria user group?, we shall await your replyOlaniyan Olushola (talk) 06:09, 23 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Oh my bad! I was tackling too many requests at once. I mean Nigeria User Group of course :). But reviewing those, I realize that your projects are ongoing, so we will not take this into account. Thank you for your answer to my questions otherwise. Delphine (WMF) (talk) 10:32, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Approval delayed

edit

Dear Olaniyan Olushola, we would be interested in approving this request, but at this stage the Nigerian User Group is the recipient of more than 4000 USD. We need to see some result before we can send you more funds. This starts with providing interim reports on grants that are ongoing. For example, you should have had a couple of monthly meetups and also soon have a radio/TV show to report on. As soon as you have produced these, we can review this request again. You also already have some funds that are yet unused for The project SHE CAN and there does not seem to be a date for it to actually start. Thanks for your patience! Hi Olaniyan Olushola, thanks to you and your user group's work on the progress reports for your current projects. I've had a chance to briefly review them and will be leaving some comments on them later this week. I've gone ahead and formally approved this request, and will follow up via e-mail with additional information. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 18:42, 6 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Olaniyan Olushola: Ah, one other matter. Seeing as we are well past April, could you adjust the dates for the grant? When would be a good time to begin acquiring the color printer? Perhaps sometime next week or later in June? Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:13, 6 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@I JethroBT (WMF): thank you for your reply and for the approval of the grant. I have amended the date to the 12th of June 2017. Regards .... Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 18:44, 7 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Olaniyan Olushola: Oh, and in terms of an end date for the grant, I've set it for 12 July 2017. This would mean that a report would be due on 12 August 2017. If you need more time, let me know. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:01, 7 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@I JethroBT (WMF): thank you for the prompt reply. I think we will need more time say end of October. This is because the item involve is a printer which cannot be directly traced to our project. However, we will show, how the procurement of the item has supported our activities. Regards... Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 19:33, 7 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Olaniyan Olushola: That sounds fair. That said, the end date doesn't need to be until the equipment is no longer usable as stated on the proposal, just enough to show how it is being used for some activities. Thanks for the update, and I'll update the end date to be on 30 September, which means a report will be due on 31 October 2017. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:52, 7 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
