Hello @Sabak5388,

Thank you for putting in a grant application. We noted that your grant application is a continuation of an existing project and motivation to preserve the language and culture of 撒奇萊雅族語.

For documentation purposes, I am also including

a) link to your previous grant - Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/台灣原住民族第 13 族撒奇萊雅族語:透過維基百科傳承瀕危的祖靈語言 (ID: 22107982);

b) link to your previous grant report - Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/台灣原住民族第 13 族撒奇萊雅族語:透過維基百科傳承瀕危的祖靈語言 (ID: 22107982)/Final Report

Having completed implementation of your previous grant, we'll like to know

1) Have you explore using other platforms to document culture and language? Why do you think wikiprojects is still relevant and an effective tool for your efforts?

2) Is building, maintaining and growing the 撒奇萊雅 community one of the key priorities for you and the team? If yes, could you provide examples of how your previous efforts have enabled you to do so?

Related to this grant application, we'll like to share:

3) Here's the oral culture translation toolkit which was put together by Wikimedians who are also interested in this field, like yourselves. If this is of useful reference, it would be helpful to know what are some practices that you have adopted in your final learning report.

4) Given this is the second grant that you are applying for, we would recommend that you set up a meta page to start documenting your group activities/ members/ reporting / asset pages etc. For example, this could be a subpage of Wikimedia Taiwan's meta page if preferred. Or you could create your individual meta pages. Samples of meta page of other usergroups - Kent Wiki Club meta page : Wiki Kent Club; West Bengal Wikimedians; Deoband Community Wikimedia; Amis Wikimedians User Group

5) We also recommend putting up a Diff post to share your experiences post project.

Thank you.

Hello Jacqueline JChen,
Thank you for your reply!
1) Due to our continuous engagement with and utilization of Wikiprojects over the past year, our group members have become accustomed to using the Wiki platform for documenting cultural and linguistic information, thus not utilizing other platforms.
2) Yes! Establishing, maintaining, and developing the Sakizaya(撒奇萊雅) community is the primary mission of our team. As stated in our project application, the sustainable preservation of Sakizaya culture and language is a matter of great concern to us. However, preserving the Sakizaya culture and language on Wikipedia is not a task that can be completed in a year. Therefore, over the past year, we have maintained our community by holding regular monthly meetings to collaboratively edit Wikipedia entries and upload language content to Wikipedia.
3) We believe this is a very useful reference tool. Previously, We have used "Interview Questions", which provided us with insights for brainstorming different aspects of interviews, as well as things to consider when recording audio or video. The "Wiki Workflow" and "Audio-Video Recording" will be a key reference for us moving forward, and we will share our experiences and feedback in the future.
4) We will refer to the meta meetings of other user organizations and begin establishing our own meta page to document our group activities, reports, and other information.
5) We will also refer to this as we start learning how to share our experiences.
Regards,

Your grant application has been approved

edit

Hello @Sabak5388,

Congratulations! Your grant application has been approved in the amount of TWD 150,800 from 16 July 2024 to 31 December 2024. With this approved amount, do submit a revised budget by adding tabs to your existing spreadsheet and labelling it revised. Please reply to this talkpage message once the adjustments have been made.

Let’s continue having regular conversations over the course of your grant implementation. Please let me know if you require support in any way or would like to share your experiences with a wider community through the Let's Connect Programme or at ESEAP community meetings.

Note on grant funding amount

In your award letter/email, you may observe that the USD equivalent may be different from that floating exchange rate on Oanda. This is because (at the moment) we apply a pre-determined exchange rate for each grant as determined by the WMF Finance team. Hence the local currency amount had to be adjusted.

We know even the best thought through plans may change.

In the event that there are changes to your implementation schedule, you can reach out to request for a grant extension (i.e. extend end date). Similarly, if there is a surplus budget or changes to your planned budget, you can reach out to me about reallocation (via email and on this talkpage). There is also the option to have the unspent funds deducted against a future grant. More details here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Return_unused_funds_to_WMF

Disbursement of Funds

To facilitate the funds disbursement process, we seek your prompt response on Fluxx and via emails with the WMF Grants Administrator team (grantsadmin@wikimedia.org). We highly encourage you to submit all supporting documents and endorse the grant agreements within the stipulated time frame. When in doubt, proactively reach out to the WMF Grants Administration team and copy your programme officer.

Recommendations

  • For this grant application, we would like to flag questions/ responses for (3), (4) and (5) for inclusion into your implementation plan. It would be also useful to flag that these considerations have been taken into account in your final report, where possible.

We thank you for your participation in the grant application process and hope to continue to journey with you as you embark on this project. Good luck!
