Grants talk:PEG/UG KO/WikiConference Seoul 2015/Report

Latest comment: 8 years ago by Mineralsab

Hi Mineralsab. Thank you for this grant report and apologies it has taken us so long to review it. The report and documentation of expenses are approved. We have a number of comments/questions below and would appreciate your response.

  1. It sounds like Wikidata was a topic of high interest for participants and that Jm dot com's presentation was helpful in introducing the project to everyone. Do you have a sense that participants felt prepared to start contributing to WikiData after the presentation?
  2. We're happy to hear that the results from the FANTsia Edit-a-thon were shared at the conference. Do you know if the group plans to organize more events aimed at engaging women? Or if the participants from the edit-a-thon have been successful at continuing to edit?
  3. It's great that you collected contact information as that's essential for keeping in touch and following up with people after. Have the event organizers followed up since the conference either via email, social media, or on user pages?
  4. Your reflection that having half of the sessions focused on technical topics was too much is important. Many wikiconference organizers use surveys to understand what their community members want to learn about during the sessions. This is very useful in making sure the topics are relevant and appropriate to people's skill level.
  5. Other communities have also found it difficult to put on a conference that is relevant to both experienced and new users. Having designated sessions just for new users is a good idea, as well as providing a space to connect experienced users with new ones. Setting up a buddy system is one idea that has worked in the past.

Congratulations on successfully organizing WikiConference Seoul! We know it takes a lot of time and effort to organize an event like this and we appreciate all your work in support of the movement. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 04:43, 19 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Alex Wang (WMF) , here are my answers.
1. I think it was just an introduction. I think we need more related meetup to lead the participants to get interested in Wikidata.
2. We think we need edit-a-thon events following the FANTasia Edit-a-thon. We will hold an editathon event for women, and invite participants of the FANTasia Edit-a-thon.
3. All of the event organizers are members of board of the WMKO user group. We are keeping in touch via email, and on the Facebook. We are estimating all of events that we held.
4. 5. thanks for your kind advice.--Mineralsab (talk) 08:55, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
