Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?
- The contest will focus on improving the Wikidata project around Internet Governance topics, especially related to youth participation. Wikidata is a promising project under the WMF, with many functionalities. Even though the project has a tough learning curve to understand the whole idea, it is also built upon small edits, making it easier to work. Language barriers problems are also solved through this choice, since the Wiki Dashboard makes no distinction between languages inserted in contributions. We think that collaborating with Wikimedia projects is fundamental to youth, since these are usually the first sources consulted by young people who are getting to know the Internet Governance ecosystem, which has some particular concepts that can generate some confusion for beginners. The IGF 2021 Youth Summit project in Poland seems to be a perfect opportunity to engage this youth worldwide.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- Weare going to post our proposal on https://meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Forum. Besides that, we are also going to reach national social media pages/groups (such as Telegram and Whatsapp) related to Wikimedia. But our main public is youth that is not part of the WMF projects ecosystem, so we are publishing it through Youth Summit partners webpages and social media (such as Youth SIG, YIGF, Youth IGF Poland, and the main IGF page.
3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- As pointed out above, we are going to share this contest among our network of partners and members, as part of a bigger competition that is part of the Youth Summit, mainly through email, messaging applications (Telegram), and social media (Facebook, Instagram). To communicate with participants on more complex issues, such as explaining how to use Wikidata, we are going to organize a webinar for newcomers through Zoom.
4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.
- We are requesting help from the Wikidata community to support us with a few evaluators from different languages, and members of the Youth Summit organization will also be a part of the evaluation team. Evaluators will analyze the writing inputs taking into account mainly simple objective criteria.
Eliminatory criteria are i) compliance to Wikimedia standards; (ii) creation of at least one Wikidata page; (iii) information added to at least one existing Wikidata page; (iii) direct or indirect relevance to youth participation in Internet Governance in the selected Wikidata pages; Classificatory criteria are (i) the number of contents added or improved; (ii) relevance to youth participation in Internet Governance in the selected Wikidata pages; (iii) the integrity of the information added; (iv) direct relevance to youth participation in Internet Governance in the selected Wikidata pages;
5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?
- N/A
6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- Just the prizes ceremony will be conducted (partially) onsite, since the contest in itself will happen online. The ceremony is part of the 2021 IGF, which has its own COVID-19 safety protocols. However, since the ceremony award will happen onsite, we filled the Risk Assessment tool.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- This is my second proposal, as part of an ongoing project of building engagement with youth involved in Internet Governance, mainly in partnership with the Youth SIG/Observatory (one of the organizers of the Youth Summit). The objective of these series of projects would be to draw on youth activists’ energy and engage them in other openness-oriented communities, besides those they usually work with within the Internet Governance ecosystem.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:
For photo contests:
- Number of participants
- Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons
- Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects
For writing contests:
- Number of participants At least 40 participants expected, we already have around 100 applications for the main Youth Summit project.
- Number of articles created or improved - At least 600 Wikidata pages, but with simpler edits and additions.

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- The contest will be an online experience, so the only resources needed are an online video conference tool for instructions webinars and organizations meetings, besides the awards to be given to best-qualified participants. We already have a website and established social media to spread the idea and publish news related to this proposal.
The Programs and Events dashboard will be used to control and evaluate editions. We are also using human resources, represented mostly by the organizing team of the Youth Summit, but also evaluators, which we are going to ask from Wiki communities that helped us in the past.
What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.
- Total: Around U$ 502,52 (or £UR 430,00). I (pperdiga) still have approximately £UR 200,00 left from the last proposal we made (Youth in IG Wikicontest), which means that only £UR 230,00 will be needed. All resources will be used to provide awards for winners, transferred through Apple, Amazon, Google, or other (regionally or globally) known companies' Gift Cards. A small amount (£UR 25) is reserved for taxes and other values lost on currency conversion from Euro to other currencies. £UR 80,00 is reserved for contingency expenses, such as a as a symbolic recognition of the help provided in the form of a gift card for a designer to help with the artwork. If these two last values are not used, they will be returned to WMF.
Prizes:
1 - £UR 100,00 first-place;
2 - £UR 70,00 - second place
3 - £UR 40,00 - third place;
4 - £UR 20,00 - fourth place;
5-8 - £UR 10,00 - fifth to eight place;
9-20 - £UR 5,00 - consolation prize to substantial participation, to encourage those that won't be able to win to keep editing.
