Wiki Update is a podcast campaign that seeks to educate, train and tell stories around the wikimedia movement thereby empowering volunteers and also meeting the 2030 strategic movement of the community. The podcast started in May,2021 and It has received amazing support from the community through telling community stories, regional and global stories.

Podcast Engagement

This year on Wiki Update we have decided to engage with the movement more through the following activities:

Capacity Building: We have decided to increase our capacity building approach by bringing onboard wikimedians with variety of skills sets where they would train rookie and experienced wikimedian editors in any capacity with skills that would help grow the movement.

Project Campaign: We would be looking forward to tell amazing stories of various campaigns around the movement, thus stories which would be around Wiki Loves Africa, Arts & Feminism, #1Lib1Ref, Ghana Histo-Cita-thon, African Wiki Challenge, AfroCine Project, Wiki Loves Love and Wiki Loves Folklore,Wiki Loves Earth,Wiki Loves Monuments, WPWP, Wiki Loves Women ... and more.

Partnerships: In our movement partnership is very essential, so at the moment we have partners on-board thus the wikimedia foundation, Ghana Histo-Citaton, Ghana Pidgin Wikimedians , OFWA and we have sent out mails to other leads in the movement as partners. In view of this, it would lead to widespread of engagement on the podcast.

Featured Post: We would ensure that some of the podcast engagement would be featured on Diff. and Wikimedia Education News Channel

Video Cast: The podcast setup, industry or community is growing and now us a result of growth a new feature that has been added to it, is it's video element, this will serve us a nice opportunity for us to run some videos concerning the hands on training bit for community and audience around the world to get a clear cut understand of what we are doing.

Ad Campaign: We will be running ad-campaigns to be able to reach more audience using whatsapp ads, twitter ads, facebook ads to promote campaigns on the podcast

International Day: Using international day celebration to have a podcast training or share wiki stories. International day celebration like International Women's Day, International Podcast Day and more, you can view variety on UNESCO page

1. What is your promotion plan? You can do a campaign involving billboards or rickshaw announcements to promote a Wikimedia projects, such as Santali Wikipedia, at different places in a city. You can promote an online campaign such as Wiki Loves Monuments on Facebook, Twitter, etc using ads. You can also create gifs/slideshows or other easy to make multimedia files and use them to promote your project on social media.

Our promotional plan is to promote various campaigns,projects and training's that are happening around the wikiverse. This would be done by using various social media outlet to promote the podcast.This is something that we did last year and we are looking forward to increase out listenership and engagement using facebook, twitter,whatapp ads and google ads to promote various activities on the podcast project, which would be made possible through our partnership with various communities around the movement

We will let community know about the promotional campaign on various social media handles and also on our meta page


3.Do you have any experience in promoting Wikimedia projects either online or offline? Were you involved in a similar project in the past? Do you have any other experience related to online/offline promotion?

Yes we do have experience based on our podcasting experience we have promoted most of the podcast project on all the social media handles like whatspp,facebook,instagram and twitter


4. What is your post-promotion plan? What do you plan to do after your campaign ends?

Well in our post campaign plan is to provide community report on our success and outcomes on diff and wikimedia education platform. Also we would be looking forward to continue our work in other to increase skills, readership and more.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

  1. Number of people reached/listenership - 1000, so we were looking at having 1000 listeners at the end of the year but looking at the numbers now we might surpass if we are to get needed support from the foundation.
  2. Number of campaign participants - 200, So with this we will be looking at engaging 200 participants in our campaign by the end of the year.
  3. Increase in pageviews for a Wikimedia project - 100 +, thus the number of people who view a pages that have been created after each campaign by the end of the year
  4. Number of content creation - 100, Also in our training and campaign events that we will be organizing we will be creating articles of which a dashboard will be created to collect the data
